'24 Transfer Portal

Baron isn't how they're swinging hard. They're making a push for Nolen, the top player in the portal. They've already landed the top LB in the portal. They're pursuing the top Edge in the portal (the kid from FL, not Baron). And I'm not comparing what they're doing to what we are, just pointing out that yes, they really are swinging hard to upgrade their defense. Not sure where all the money is coming from, but Lane is on a shopping spree.
Seems like they’re taking a lot of one year guys, whereas our staff is prioritizing full multi year guys. May be part of the difference.

That and Ole Miss has a real shot at winning next year with their cake walk schedule.

Get a ton of instant impact guys to win next season to jump start your recruiting again.

He’s got Dart and Judkins coming back, along with a 800+ yard WR in Tre. Now they add Juice. They may get the FL EDGE. They have a real shot

We appear to have been focusing on something else.

sticking around for one more year—-John Campbell, Cooper Mays, Omarr Norman-Lott, Gerald Mincey, Bryson Eason, big Omari Thomas.

I’m sorry but that’s some serious work being done.
so in year 4 we are desperate for bodies and the best we can do is stop the existing roster from bleeding more. Thats not how you compete for championships. Believe me id rather have those guys then not, especially with how the portal is shaking out. But we are losing steam and that’s not good no matter what spin people want to throw on it.

You clueless I see.
You making excuses already I see. It’s not a good thing to see recruiting completely stalled in the closing hour. Doesn’t mean it won’t work out, also doesn’t mean it will. But we’ve seen what happens when you don’t fix roster issues and let recruiting slip. The contenders are not taking a day off on filing needs. Kentucky, who will get beat by us again, is filing needs asap. Why on earth are we not doing the same ? Ole miss is out there getting serious about trying to compete.

There is one issue that will be very interesting this year. Halze and his play calling. Now I do think he was hampered by Milton’s limitations. I don’t think Nico has those limitations. So it will be very interesting to see if the offense looks more like 2022 than this past year.
It was Halze's first year as an OC...I highly doubt he was calling the plays. I agree on the offense being limited by Milton. It's been said on here by one of the resident insiders that they were essentially having to scheme around Milton's deficiencies. You could tell by watching the offense throughout the season that the creativity was gone and they were pretty predictable. You can only run what your QB can execute. Next season with Nico will answer a lot of questions about the real reason for the drop-off in the offense in 2023. We might even get some answers in the bowl game if Nico starts or plays a lot.

How’s the portal going poorly?
Who have we signed from the portal? We need defensive backs badly, we need tight ends badly, we need offensive linemen, we need linebackers. We are a major program who can pay, on the verge of competing. I’m just saying it’s strange we aren’t bringing more help.

Ole Miss hasn't recruited great under Kiffin. Not many top high school prospects outside of Mississippi consider going there. It's smart for Kiffin to really focus on the portal. He's probably not worried about running off a current player because they have a roster with a lot of role players instead of stand-outs. Outside of Judkins, their best players come from the portal. It's the right strategy for a school like that.

If we're still at the same spot on January 1st, then it's worth worrying about. The guys they're really after in the portal still haven't made a decision...so they could start landing several guys as early as today with Staes making a decision soon. There's also more time for guys to hit the portal before it closes.

Are we desperate for bodies?
The guys we’re retaining are better than anyone in the portal. We have a shot now of a redshirt freshman QB behind an experienced line. Instead of running for his life.
We are still under restriction so we don’t have the luxury of grabbing people just to have them. We’re a lot better off today with the people we’ve retained than if they went to the nfl and we got all the best available from the portal to replace them.

And SOMEHOW, we’ve managed to underrate this incoming OL class because we pitched a hissy fit over Seaton. Predicting 3 of those are being prepared for heavy minutes to outright starting the following season…and every one of them is superior to Ollie Lane and Dayne Davis.

Patience is not a strength of yours I take it

Yep, Kiffin has either gotten lazy or doesn’t really care to develop high school players. So, he hits the portal. Not really a recipe for sustained success, but we shall see.

All of our portal transfers last year committed in January. I guess you haven’t checked the calendar yet.

Yep
Rated as one of the best freshman oline classes coming in in the country

I think that works for transfers, but not misses on the recruiting trail. The players coming back all help for next year. Better than having to find transfers to take those spots. But high school recruiting is more about the future. But as I've said to you recently, (other than TE) we did well recruiting offense in this class. Defense, especially DL, not near as well. At least thus far. Possible that could still change, fingers crossed on McKinley.

Our Oline was about to be a major concern. Now it seems multiple NIL deals later like it could be a strength next year. And yes. If Nico is Nico. And I think he will be we have a player capable of being the best in the SEC. We have a great offensive head coach. Oline protecting Nico would have been my #1 priority. Next upgrade defense where we can. I think we’re on the right track. Like to land a couple upgrades. But keeping your own goods is also winning in the portal.
To much sense come on. In CHRIST Alone
