Trump Deliberately Lied To Americans About Covid 19

since huff took me down the hypothetical path, lemme throw this out for fodder:

You're president. Your trusted science team says there is a serious pandemic we must take unprecedented action to save lives. Your economic team says the economy is in free fall and we are on the verge of a financial collapse worse than the Great Depression. Their suggestions to you are in complete opposition to the other's concern.

What, as president, do you do?
Whatever President Donald Trump was trying to accomplish by downplaying the threat of the Coronavirus in February and March, it didn't work. The markets crashed anyway (granted, they have fully recovered since), and the country still went through a 6 week long economic shutdown from March 23rd until May 4th, which had a dramatic impact on the "hospitality" industry. President Trump really would have been better served by playing it straight with the American people. His attempts to calm a panic, didn't help matters at all. Also, during a time of crisis, it can be just as harmful for a government's leadership to instill people with a false sense of security, as it can be to induce a panic by sounding an alarm.

One more thought on this... while President Trump was downplaying the threat of the Coronavirus to the American people, he was simultaneously playing politics with it. On March 19th, President Trump accused the media of blowing the threat of the Coronavirus out of proportion in order to hurt his chances of being reelected. In retrospect, this was very disingenuous. Later that same day, Trump admitted to Bob Woodward during one of their recorded interviews, that the Coronavirus was more deadly than he was letting on publicly. So, Trump's complaint about the media blowing the Coronavirus out of proportion to hurt him politically was bull $hit, wasn't it?

I really didn't pose the hypothetical as a refute of DJT's pandemic response. I'm completely indifferent to his response. And, I sincerely don't see any other president doing better while not stepping on our Constitution.
I seriously doubt the hypothetical I presented to the board was ever presented to Trump.

I just found it to be an interesting predicament to be in and wondered how posters would navigate those options.

This is my take. I'm indifferent on his handling. I think the individual governors deserve the scrutiny or praise. I also think that's how it should be. See the hurricane example.

With no hesitation, but I do not have a teenage daughter.
I would be far more comfortable with my daughters spending time alone with Biden than with Trump.
That’s because you’re brainwashed

Donald Trump's actions on one specific day are very clear:

On March 19th, Donald Trump accused the media of blowing the Coronavirus out of proportion in order to hurt his chances of being re-elected. He did this on two separate occasions... on Twitter, and then again during a press conference. However, that is the same day as one of his audio recorded interviews with Robert Woodward, when Donald Trump admits that he has been downplaying the threat of the Coronavirus to the American people to prevent a panic. He was trying to have it both ways. He wanted to blame the media for blowing it out of proportion, but he also knew that he had been downplaying it to the public. That is outrageous. He was playing politics with what he knew to be a deadly virus. What a broken man.

I expressed happiness at how DJT got out of the way and let the states handle it. I think that approach was appropriate and most constitutional. It's one of a handful of things I've liked about his presidency.

You're recovering so I'll take it easy on you.

Tell me which president doesn't play the political angle to all events (good and bad)?

Just to recap:

On March 19th:

(1) In the morning, Trump accused the media of blowing the virus out of proportion in order to hurt his chances of being re-elected.

(2) In the afternoon, Trump tells Bob Woodward (a member of the media) that he had been downplaying the virus.

Scandalous.

The Biden team, Pelosi, etc were all publicly downplaying the virus and telling people not to panic at the EXACT SAME TIME that Trump was downplaying the virus so as not to panic the public.

This is complete, political, hypocritical horse ****.

Trump was simultaneously accusing the media of blowing the virus out of proportion in order to hurt his chances of being re-elected. Fox News picked up on that narrative and ran with it. That is why Trish Regan is no longer on the Fox Business Channel. She was following Trump's lead, and downplaying the virus, while also accusing the media of blowing the virus out of proportion in order to hurt Trump. Trish Regan called the virus "another impeachment scam".

You honestly don't see anything wrong with that?
I simply jdgaf.

I'll throw him so far under the bus you'll defend him if you wanna talk about his spending, his border wall, his tariff talk, or his idiotic tweeting.

I'll also tell you how much I like his hands off approach to covid, his "right to try" bill, his public pricing for hospitals, and no new wars.

His dance with the press, other politicians, who he screws or what gets his rocks off don't interest me.

And another thing whilst my dander is up....if you can find me an honest politician who earnestly wants small government, reduced debt, and Constitutional laws who also doesnt lie, I'll go all Monica Lewinsky on him in the Oval.
