Trump on Outkick this morning

That is not what he said.

Here is what he said. If he would have just come out and said "don't go buying up all the masks because it will create a shortage for healthcare workers" I think everyone would have understood that. But he didn't.

Also, people definitely did understand it, at the time. There were tons of stories about masks selling out and hospitals struggling to get PPE, which was why the public craze to buy masks needed to slow down. The alleged confusion has really only been dragged up by Republicans four months afterward

When he said “that’s the point,” what point was he talking about?

He said that as an afterthought in response to the interviewers question. WTH didn't he just lead with "don't buy up all the masks, save them for the HC workers"?

He said we should make sure healthcare workers have access to them first. Scientists also change their minds all the time, that's literally what the scientific method is. Not a great reason to start taking advice from a lawyer-turned-joke-of-a-sports-personality instead
It's what Fauci/Pence/Trump should have said but they didn't. Compete failure in communicating which is the hallmark of this pandemic

No, that isn't what he said.

No they didn't. You're covering for this guy like he owes you money.

I was in the middle of it. New York was trying to get PPE from any source it could, and healthcare officials were pleading with people to stop buying up all the masks so actual hospitals had access to them. Not sure how you missed all that, but apparently a lot of people did and now want to act all confused 4 months after the fact just to discredit Fauci

Again with this stupidity.

It wasnt a changing of mind because of some new found knowledge.

The virion particles are similarly sized as all the common viruses we see all the time. People in Asia have been wearing masks for years to combat virus spread.

Stop going out of your way to defend the stupidity.

We were only discussing what Fauci actually said. Now you want to move the goalposts.

I've been told they wear them due to air pollution.

Likely was a change in available supply more than anything else. What's your argument, that he was just lying to people for fun?

That's not moving anything. He literally said "that's the point" and you moved the goalposts from there

He said that only after being asked a question and after several comments about why people shouldn't be wearing a mask that had nothing to do with saving them for HC workers.

When before that he said "when you think masks, you should think of ____" what was he talking about?

Why don't you read the transcript and tell us.

LaPook, March 8: There’s a lot of confusion among people, and misinformation, surrounding face masks. Can you discuss that?
Fauci: The masks are important for someone who’s infected to prevent them from infecting someone else… Right now in the United States, people should not be walking around with masks.
LaPook: You’re sure of it? Because people are listening really closely to this.
Fauci: …There’s no reason to be walking around with a mask. When you’re in the middle of an outbreak, wearing a mask might make people feel a little bit better and it might even block a droplet, but it’s not providing the perfect protection that people think that it is. And, often, there are unintended consequences — people keep fiddling with the mask and they keep touching their face.
LaPook: And can you get some schmutz, sort of staying inside there?
Fauci: Of course, of course. But, when you think masks, you should think of health care providers needing them and people who are ill. The people who, when you look at the films of foreign countries and you see 85% of the people wearing masks — that’s fine, that’s fine. I’m not against it. If you want to do it, that’s fine.

And, to be clear, the only reason people want to focus on "what Fauci actually said" is because it's all they have. When you consider:

A. The extremely widely-publicized mask shortage in March
B. The extremely widely-publicized mask guidance today
C. The full extent of Fauci's allegedly confusing comments, in which he himself mentioned healthcare workers multiple times,

then clinging to the "but he said people don't need them!!!" as if it overrules ALL of that starts to sound as stupid as it is.

Dude, you're moving the goalposts again. You can read the transcript of that interview and it's clear Fauci didn't think people needed to be walking around in a mask. That's fine, maybe the science wasn't there to support the need for public masking, maybe the science at the time pointed to (as he said) could lead to people getting sick from fiddling with their masks. But don't try to put words in his mouth that weren't said and try to pull an alternate meaning from the words he did say.

My argument is when people come to his defense with this condescending BS scientific method spiel.

That isnt the reason he altered his message. There wasnt some new knowledge attained.

Yet another person that has no clue how science works.
I know exactly how science works..... it is opinions based on facts or observations, or facts that we have currently.... it is why different scientists can come up with different conclusions from the same observations/facts and also why those opinions change so much.... Personal biases can come in to play with this as well) not talking about Fauci)..... About Fauci..... what has he added or instructed that hasn’t been around 100 years....

I was monitoring and worried about this disease since well before Christmas.... it’s a shame that we have the CDC and WHO whose main purpose is diseases such as this and they were as Ill prepared for this as they were...

Yeah it was.... I have never listened to outkick besides random videos on twitter.i don’t see why the stuff that gets posted here bothers anyone since it is factual info and not his opinion. I wish more fact based stats were posted here.
