While it may not necessarily benefit him in Syria, it would be an excellent way to potentially "backdoor" into sanctions relief. Determining the possible motivations would require asking which is more important to Putin and his close friends: Assad in power or billions more in kleptocratic grift?
The problem with any clandestine, protracted, multiparty "plan" is that it requires adherence by someone who has the attention span of a gnat.
No Trump-Putin connection?
Where's your proof?
This ain't no one-way street, brah.
Spanish police have arrested a Russian programmer for alleged involvement in "hacking" the US election, Spanish press reports have said.
Pyotr Levashov, arrested on 7 April in Barcelona, has now been remanded in custody.
A "legal source" also told the AFP news agency that Mr Levashov was the subject of an extradition request by the US.
Seems like an important part omitted
RT quoted Maria Levashova as saying armed police stormed into their apartment in Barcelona overnight, keeping her and her friend locked in a room for two hours while they quizzed Levashov.
She said when she spoke to her husband on the phone from the police station, he told her he was told he had created a computer virus that was "linked to Trump's election win."
