TrumPutinGate

They stick with him because the Republican base would rather vote for a Russian asset than a Democrat. Anything to own the libs.

They are largely afraid of his base and being accused of being a RINO. We've seen it before. Look at Flake. Romney now.

Very reminiscent of Nixon, though. GOPers stuck with him for a long time. Complained about politicization of the investigation. Same stuff. Nixon tried to stack the deck. But the truth came out. And they were smart enough to abandon ship.

In the election cycle that followed the Republicans lost 49 seats in the House and four in the Senate, giving the Dems 60 in the Senate, by the way. And a lot of Senate Republicans are up in 2020, including some vulnerable ones.

If it starts to go South, don't be surprised if the GOPers in Congress jump ship en masse. They hate him, anyway because he's a douchebag. Its only fear that keeps them in line right now.

They are not the same. Period. I'm very cool with what the Hillary camp did and you know why, they didn't do anything illegal. So are you cool with what the Trump camp did? Me being cool about something is irrelevant in the eyes of the law. You pop in every few months, quickly put on your red hat and immediately lose any credibility. The mueller investigation being a witch hunt is a farce you choose to believe. I could care less about HC (not my team). You take offense when someone criticizes Trump, throw out the redhat mantra of but hillary, and expect people to believe you're not a Trump nut jockey. Please.

BTW I have said numerous times that Manafort could be the depths of russia's infiltration of the Trump Campaign. Based on what we know, Manafort had the blessings of the President to share the polling data or engaged in espionage for the Russians.

What has Trump done that's illegal?

They have to keep investigating that to find out.
That's what I suspect, but it was a genuine question. Mick spoke as though he's cool with Hilary's collusion b/c it was "legal" but not Trump's b/c it was illegal. I'd like to know what was illegal? They have some of his associates on process crime. They have Flynn on failure to register as a foreign agent before he went to work wit Trump. They also have Podesta on the same charge, as I understand it, while he was working with Hillary.

So, what illegal, Mick?

darn those lengthy 4.5 year investigations.
The detail kind of gets in the way when Mick is posturing about "what Trump's campaign did", hasn't it?

Serious question. That's illegal? What polling data and what statute? And they've closed the deal on that, or accused?

I genuinely want to know.
Under what statute is that covered?
I have no idea.
We'll be finding out shortly.
Maybe it's not illegal at all and just Trump's way of unethically helping the Russians interfere with the election in order to benefit him.

Actually, we're upset about what the foreign government was/is doing. And it goes well beyond indirectly providing (whether intentional or not) information to a political consulting firm.

For the sake of argument, though, say the dossier was a Kremlin scheme. What was its motive to provide the Clinton campaign with false information on Trump's ties to Russia?

The boldest shows you are unwilling to acknowledge what happened. You are intentionally minimizing with the words "indirectly" "whether intentional or not" and to a political consulting firm. The DNC and Clintons hired the firm to get negative information on Trump. Much of that information was sourced directly from the Russian government. I'd say it's being quite naive to think Steele was talking to these Russian officials and they had no idea why or for whom.

The motive is playing out - damage the presidency. If Clinton had won the dossier origins get leaked; since Trump won, the dossier becomes the justification for years of investigation and regardless of Mueller's findings some people will always believe the dossier allegations.

I have no idea.

More unethical than paying Russians to help interfere?

Or maybe it's not. The fact of the matter is that the context is Mick saying he's cool with Hillary's collusion b/c it was supposedly legal, but Trump's supposed collusion is supposedly illegal. Seems an important point in that context, no?

Facts just interrupt your world don't they?

Fact: Trump denied that anyone in his campaign colluded with the Russians.

Fact: Manafort did, repeatedly.

Fact: Trump proposed pro-Russian change to GOP platform.

Fact: Trump denied any financial ties to Russia.

Fact: That was a blatant lie, at many levels.

Fact: Cohen lied to Congress when he made the same claim about lack of financial ties.

Fact: Cohen coordinated that lie with someone IN THE WHITEHOUSE. We will find out who, soon enough.

Fact: Trump authored press release which lied about purpose of Trump Tower meeting.

Fact: Trump, Jr., who can't tie his own shoelaces without 3 people helping him and getting permission, was excited to get dirt on HRC.

Fact: Trump lied to the American people about that.

Fact: Jr. called someone on a burner phone right after the meeting.

Fact: Kushner tried to use Russian assets to set up back door communications channels to Russia so that US intelligence could not monitor.

Fact: Trump has assiduously avoided people learning what he and Putin say to each other, including seizing the notes of his translator after a two hour meeting where no one else knows what was said.

Fact: Trump has repeatedly slow walked, blocked, or otherwise hindered sanctions against Russian oligarchs and Russians connected to Putin.

You can try to excuse one or two of these. Put them together and your boy Donny's goose is cooked. You just haven't accepted it, yet.

1. we are still waiting to find out what the Trump camp did if anything.
2. I've never said the Mueller investigation is a witch hunt and if you pay attention you'll see I've said I'm waiting to see the outcome to determine if I think Team Trump did something wrong.
3. I do think Team Hillary accepted help from a foreign hostile but did it legally (enough) that they aren't being charged. I have a problem with it; you don't. That doesn't change the facts that it happened.
4. We don't know the last thing you claim. The findings are not yet out. It may or may not be the case. We shall see.

No it reflects that I don't know:

(1) exactly who Steele's sources were, and how he got the information from them,

(2) what the terms/understanding was when the Clinton campaign obtained the memos

Perhaps this information is public, but I looked for a few minutes and didn't see it. It's all a side issue, really.
