UCF National Championship Parade

The big boys claiming them is silly too, but that was mostly over 40 years ago, back when they didn't or couldn't even match up 1 and 2 in a bowl game, and they even voted before the bowl games.

Doing it now, yeah it doesn't affect anyone's life, but it's pretty silly. It's like if Tulane claimed one in 1998 or Boise St. claimed one in 2006 and 2009.

I wouldn't have a problem if Tulane or Boise State claimed a NC from their undefeated seasons...ditto for Utah in 2008. The big boys created that precedent.

Kentucky retroactively awarding themselves the 1950 national title, and creating a trophy to commemorate said retroactive championship is infinitely more laughable than what UCF is doing.

By this time next week no one will care what's going on at UCF.

Every other division of football can do it but the "big boys" can't?

I don't think expanded playoff would work with the number of players that need to declare for the draft every year. And UCF wouldn't have been included in an 8 team playoff anyway. They were ranked outside the top 10.

I'm sure they can find some group (in this age of journalistic integrity) to award them the NC. :)

Yes they can. And should!

Guys, y'all are missing a great opportunity to get some hot out of this horrible season. Two of our most bitter rivals are about to play for the natty. This is terrible.

But, this is the chance to rib the heck out of both teams by claiming this will be a split NC. A UGA friend posted this parade yesterday of FB. I've had the complete hot of stirring the pot with UCF is the deserving Undefeated Perfect National Champions. While this week's winner will only win the playoff NC.

The post has been blowing up w UGA and Bammers foaming at the mouth. They are torn out of the frame. I keep using the term "consolation game" for the Championship. This is the most fun I've had this crappy season. Making poor dawg fans think their title will somehow be tainted as a shared title. LOL.

Here's an article I adjusted for their encouragement ☺️

There’s only one team in college football who won all of their games and that’s the UCF Knights. Despite going 12-0 in the regular season, UCF was only able to climb as high as no. 12 in the College Football Playoff Committee rankings. After beating no. 7 Auburn in the Peach Bowl, the Knights deserve to be recognized in some form as National Champions.

Lets talk strength of schedule. Leave your SOS rankings aside and look at the facts.

UCF defeated Auburn who defeated both teams playing in the committee’s national title game.
UCF has 4 wins against 10+ win teams while Alabama has 2.
3 of UCF’s victories are against conference teams who have P6 wins this season (Memphis against UCLA, South Florida against Texas Tech and Navy against Virginia).
UCF’s 31-21 win over Navy snapped Navy’s 17-game home winning streak.
UCF is 2-0 against P6 teams this season (wins against no. 7 Auburn and Maryland).
ESPN’s Football Power Index ranks UCF’s strength of record no. 6 overall. Strength of Record reflects chance that an average top-25 team would have team's record or better, given the schedule.
With strength of schedule being the main argument for keeping UCF ranked so low, why aren’t there more undefeated teams? The “experts” make it sound like it’s pretty easy to win all your games if you’re talented in a non-power conference. Out of the 61 G5 teams who aren’t UCF, only South Florida (10-2) and Troy (11-2) have less than 3 losses. Not only was UCF able to pull off a perfect record, but they did it after playing 11 straight weeks without a break.

Lets look at some other facts just in case you still need some convincing that UCF is worthy.

UCF finishes the season averaging the most points per game in the FBS at 48.2.
Only Oklahoma (632) has scored more total points than UCF (627). Oklahoma has played 1 more game than the Knights.
UCF scored the most points out of any team this season against Auburn.
QB McKenzie Milton was 2nd behind Baker Mayfield in passer rating (179.3) and yards per attempt (10.2). He also finished 8th in Heisman voting.

... of course I don't think they're national champs, but stirring the pot has been fun.

I am surprised UCF can legally use the term national championship. I thought the college football playoff owned the National Championship game rights and trophy.

This is the greatest tweet ever!

Give em' time. They'll copyright their mother's gravesite if possible.

I don't think they should have gotten the nod over any of the teams in the playoff. There's that.

But, they beat everyone they played, including that "third or 4th best team in the SEC" that both NC teams lost to. Just saying.

historically, in the SEC everyone had everyone elses number.. Auburn proved that still to be true..

however, I think all 4 teams in the playoff would have beaten the fool out of UCF

The CFP is a private deal between ESPN and the colleges. The NCAA has no involvement on the selection committee or the teams selected,

UCF should hang any banner it wants to, and more power to them.

I don't know what the CFP contracts say, but I doubt if they prohibit a school from claiming a national championship. I'm positive though that the NCAA doesn't care one way or the other.

The guys went 13-0 and beat the only team to beat the likely NC. Cut em some slack.

This is only because the 'playoff' really isn't a playoff. If there were 8 teams, UCF would have easily been among the teams selected.

You don't think if 8 teams were involved the rankings would be different? Sure they would.

Different, maybe. But I doubt it would have been 4 spots different. If the Auburn result had been available for consideration, then absolutely. Without it, highly doubtful.

I have thought about buying a UCF National Championship shirt just to tweak the local Bammers down here if they win tonight. Nothing say "unofficial National Champs" like Alabama and their 73 titles 😁

Let me put it this way, UCF's claim to the national championship is at least as strong as about a third of the 16 that Alabama currently claims. Let em claim it.
