Brice Johnson just completed what has to be the best game in Tar Heel history. 39 pts, 23 rbs, 3 stls, and 3 blks. Unbelievable. I thought a little over midway that he had a good shot of besting Sean May's Duke '05 performance in Chapel Hill, but Johnson flat out dogged even that one.

Impressive for sure. Unreal stat line.

Upon further investigation, Rosenbluth had some 40 pts plus/double digit rbs (though not 20 plus) back in the 50s and Cunningham had two 40 pts plus and 20 rebs plus games in the 60s. I think Cunningham even had double digit assists in at least one of those as well.

At worst, Johnson's performance was fifth or sixth best all-time in a Tar Heel uniform. But it is possibly the best all-time for a Tar Heel on the road.

Stay healthy, cut down nets

Agreed. Lots of scoring balance. Drastically improved at the foul line. Not great from three, but dangerous enough and have multiple guys that can hit them. Need to play tougher on defense, but they can score so well that it usually doesn't matter. Gotta force the opponent to play at their pace. Push the tempo.

This won't always work. To win a title, Carolina is going to have to grind out some games and play defense. I do think they're the best team, but that toughness you mentioned will be the key IMO

Yes free throw shooting has improved, which was much needed. It seems like the last several games a switch has flipped with defensive rebounding, too. We were HORRIBLE last year at it, and the first several games this year I thought we weren't doing a great job. But Noel, Johnson and Hicks are doing well now. Any Maye is a great rebounder...you hardly ever see his guy get an offensive rebound.

Good win for Duke on the road at Wake tonight. Duke scores a lot of points per game this season, it won't be dull, but definitely exciting, frustrating all wrapped into a season.
Good game Brice Johnson but,

GO TO HELL CAROLINA GO TO HELL

With Syracuse visiting tonight, I doubt Duke's campus has seen this many Yankees since last Wednesday, the first day of spring classes.

Keep in mind, you have to factor in the few dozen students that will inevitably drop classes after the first week. Syracuse's team is probably just trying to figure out how come there's no snow.

Volprof made a "Yankee" joke at Duke's expense, I for one am shocked. That would be like me saying #" African American studies matter".

Eh, Duke's time is coming. I've been in the belly of the beast myself; I've seen how big sports institutions work behind the scenes. They're all up to their eyeballs in it. Everyone cheats; there are just different degrees of proficiency in it. That's pretty much it.

Boy, Coach K was hot under the collar there at the end of the game. His soul looked as black as his hair dye.

And rightfully so with the no call on the last second shot. The no call before is okay bc they were both going for the ball, but that last one, sheesh.

He should've been pissed, but that's not why Duke lost. They're just not a good basketball team right now. Say what you want about K, at least he's not as full of **** as awe Shucks Ol Huckleberry.

My thing with this team is... Jefferson has been marginal his whole career, but now he is being made into some huge difference maker.. It's just not their year. It happens..

I'm sure they will Roy their way into a split or 1/3 vs Carolina... I will say Roy has done a good job so far this year though.

Amile had a great start to the season and he is a difference maker. He's a good defender and rebounder, something that is severely lacking with this Duke team. I agree with you Roy has done a great job and I think UNC is the best team in the country right now. I just threw up a little bit. Gotta go.

Duke is paying the price of "one-and-dones" this year. That approach one it all last year, not looking so hot this year, who knows about next year. Kentucky having the same problem. It's certainly a balancing act.

Duke isn't lacking in scoring this year. They're 2nd nationally in PPG. Where they're struggling is defense and rebounding, the two things Amile brings to the table, therefore his loss is magnified drastically. Ingram just isn't a banger down low even though he's a great player. Unfortunately, Chase Jeter just isn't ready to play meaningful minutes to mitigate the loss of Jefferson. The "one-and-done" system isn't broken this year as only one of these freshman will go pro at the end of the year. Coach K went back to his old ways for this class and recruited a couple project, 4 year players in Jeter and Thornton - they just have to play meaningful minutes and they're not ready so Duke is struggling at this juncture. At the end of the season, I'd bet a lot that Duke will be a dangerous team. Coach K knew that and he's been preparing for that all year.

As for UNC, they're the best team in the country, but that's not CRW's doing. Anyone can win with that team. CRW can only win big time when his teams are by far the best in the country like on '05 and '09, luckily for him it's happened again this year where they're just by far the best. I do still give Duke a good chance to beat them more than once this year simply bc CRW is the coach of that team.

As for next years Duke team, it should be nasty as long as Allen doesn't declare after the year. They'll take some bumps as they will lose Plumlee and Jefferson to graduation and more than likely Ingram to the draft. Allen could declare for the draft but he may be the kind of guy that just loves Duke and wants to play all 4 years like Redick. But their incoming class could be one of the all time greats as they have signed the #1 and #2 players in the country as well as another 5* PG.

I'm pretty sure Allen is gone. That team should be #1 anyway though, especially now that Kennard is better than I thought.

They're paying the price of having worse players than they had last year. It's been happening since long before one-and-done.
