The 1920s-mid 1940s helmets were brown leather with white stripesView attachment 165449

I don't like the black outlines at all. Someone tweeted in that string that black was not within the branding guidelines of UT and could not be used. I hope that is true. If they have to outline the numbers, why not use smokey grey?
Edit: But aren't the numbers on the white basketball jerseys outlined in black?
I know my opinion doesn't matter but I do like it, especially with the return of the black cleats that grey outline pops and I liked the grey/ black names on the back as well for the away unis.
They also need to go back to the more traditional font for the “Vols” on the front of the helmet, eliminate the orange collar, and put black outlines around the away numbers along with the black cleats.I agree. Last year they were perfect for me EXCEPT I was never a fan of the checkerboard on the helmet and pants stripe. If they fixed that and left everything else the same I’d be a happy camper.
Regardless of what they trot out in though on Saturday I’ll be happy cause it’ll be FOOTBALL TIME!!!
No, they are Smokey Grey, as are the outlines on every other sports jerseys.
DP,
You said they were trying to get the 2 stripes back on the pants, but it would take too much time or something along those lines. Why would that be the case? Not questioning you, but I wanted to know if there is contract issue to it or some other reasons if Pruitt and Fulmer decided in say January or February how they wanted the next template why it would take so long.
TIA

Uniform designs are finalized more than a year in advance. Jerseys absolutely cannot be changed, because they make replicas for retail and have those ordered and shipped. Pants are easier from a wanting to make a change standpoint, however the double stripe pants are on a different template for Nike, so they basically have to go back and create something new from scratch. I was told in the spring they would not be able to do it for fall, it is certainly possible something is changed on that front.
I expect the grey outline to come to the numbers next year, but as you have probably seen if you have been to a store around town, the road retail jerseys for this year are already available and they do not have the outline. It is highly doubtful that Nike would allow Tennessee to wear something different on the field than is available at retail.
