Uniform/Helmet/Shoe design thread (merged)

After 10 mins of us watching warm-ups on August 31st....im sure your mind will change and be all for it!!!

The script is only on the away jerseys. Given that we're wearing alternates against Oregon, we won't even see it on the field until the Florida game. It's a shame to me, our away uniforms were some of the best in football IMO.

We have one of the most recognizable uniforms in all of sports. It's classic, sharp and instantly recognized.
I see no reason in making design changes to the uniform.

Don't have recruiting or "Doolittle" to cry about so now you move on to the next best thing?

Get your popcorn out, the tears will be epic for the old guys in here. They complain about just wearing black shoes.

And here ya go:

So we've got minor tweaks to the home uniform, a complete overhaul of the away uniform and alternates for TWO games? I've said a lot of negative stuff about Derek Dooley, but I'll give him credit in this regard; at least he was dedicated to upholding UT's unique brand, (at least from an aesthetic standpoint) something that Jones flat out doesn't appear interested in doing.

Because "Tennessee" isn't a part of Tennessee's unique brand? That's like saying "UT", "Vols", or "Big Orange" don't belong as part of our brand. Please take 2 aspirin and call me in the morning.

agree about our away unis.

Adding the state outline on the back is pretty cool. Mucking up the whole front of the away jersey with script lettering is just going to be a mistake IMO. The other thing I don't like about it is that it takes away the continuity between the home/away jerseys. In past the away jersey has always been the exact opposite of the home look (with a black outline around the numbers for the past 15-20 years), but now the away jersey is just going to be a random look out of left field that doesn't resemble out home jersey in any way.

Our best hope may be that this will go like the changes in 2002, where they were so wildly unpopular with the fans that they simply did away with them in the middle of the season and went back to the old uniforms. Maybe that'll happen again.

I think we kept the away uniforms. But I remember going to the Miami game and seeing the old uniforms back and being very happy. The road ones weren't terrible but those wide striped white pants were terrible looking.

I'm saying that UT has carved out its own unique look through the years, and at least Dooley was committed to continuing that look. Jones shows up and without having even won a single game takes it upon himself to completely blow up the away uniforms that aside from adding a black outline to the numbers, have been unchanged for 35-40 years. Can anybody find a reference of another team with script lettering on the front of their jerseys? I honestly can't even really visualize it because I literally can't think of another team that has script lettering.

You're right. I found some pictures from the Peach Bowl that season and they still had the huge orange bar down the side. Thankfully they didn't survive the offseason.
