Uniform/Helmet/Shoe design thread (merged)

You're right. I found some pictures from the Peach Bowl that season and they still had the huge orange bar down the side. Thankfully they didn't survive the offseason.

I'm guessing we only kept those because of the side orange stripe on the jersey, as it would look weird going into plain white pants; and I'm guessing we didn't have any plain white jerseys made up for that season.

Man that really has been 11 years ago.

Luckily none of you "traditionalists" have any say so in this. Get over it, it's not like they are changing the school colors from orange and white and if they did who cares? Tweaking the uniforms slightly or even having an alternate isn't going to kill you and if it does so be it, I'll come visit your grave and toss some daisies on it.

I'm saying that UT has carved out its own unique look through the years, and at least Dooley was committed to continuing that look. Jones shows up and without having even won a single game takes it upon himself to completely blow up the away uniforms that aside from adding a black outline to the numbers, have been unchanged for 35-40 years. Can anybody find a reference of another team with script lettering on the front of their jerseys? I honestly can't even really visualize it because I literally can't think of another team that has script lettering.
What are you talking about? In Johnny majors day they had the stripes on the shoulders. Haven't changed in 35 to 40 years haha! Man they have always changed it's just been little by little,
And not only that but they've have changed in the past year or so with the T and the circle on the collar to a really big T on the collar. They are always changing.

Jones has made a pretty decent splash. I wouldn't mind some flashy uniform changes to garner some attention as well, so long as our play does most the talking for us.

UCLA uses script lettering on their helmets (see UCLA Football Uniforms: Mora's Twitter Reveals Exciting Possible Changes - Bruins Nation) and I think that they have used it on their jerseys, but my memory could be playing tricks on me in that respect. I have never been enamored with the UCLA script. As you noted, there is a tradition for its use in baseball but it rarely has been incorporated in football uniforms.

Oregon doesn't have our tradition. Name another SEC TEAM that acts like the ducks......

Yeah but the Ducks have been relevant more recent like 6 or more years. People tend to pay homage to the here & now than some team that hasn't been to relevant after winning it all in 98. On topic. It would be nice to see this team come out in something unique, tasteful, but making kids like it more importantly. No reason not to have three or four different Uni's to play in for a season.

I don't understand why everyone gets put into either "for" or "against".

I'm fine with an alternate, throwback, tweaks, etc., but I also think the overall look should be distinctly UT. And like it or not, the distinct look is generally the same thing we've been wearing about 50-60 years. I think we all can figure out what that means, it's the same reason you turn it on and know it's Alabama playing, it's Ohio St. it's Texas, etc.

Those programs have done alternates and such, but all of them have kept a primary distinct look. None of them have gone Oregon.

Yeah, just like Alabama.

Ole Miss also technically has it, but just like UCLA, that's because their logo is just the school name spelled out in script. I'm can't think of a single example outside of that situation where a team uses script on it's football jerseys. I'll keep searching.

It's about time we got flashy and splashy!!!! Coming back from the bottom of the heap is never easy.. might as well work our way up in style and be noticed!!!!!!!!
We can be more intimidating on our journey, why the heck not? grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

GO VOLS..
GO BIG ORANGE ..

So Butch is incapable of getting one wrong from time to time? Just because careful consideration and planning are put into something, doesn't mean it can't still suck. If it looks like Cinncy's jersey, it will look very MAC'ish. If it looks like Kentucky's jersey, it will look like a high school jersey. Just my opinion.

I suppose I'll reserve judgment until i see a picture- it's just a jersey. But on the surface, I'm against it.

You aren't reserving judgment if you are against it before its even revieled.

The look has stayed pretty much basically the same for 50-60 years.

There's a world of difference between subtle changes over the years and an outright uniform overhaul like Oregon did.

I personally think the script on the road jerseys is going to look stupid beyond belief. There's a lot of football teams that have block lettering the the area above the numbers, but script almost always appears on either baseball or basketball jerseys. In fact, I can't think of a single football team that has a script name on the front of their jersey (aside from us now, of course).

Where have you seen anything about script lettering?

I'm not saying go all Oregon but tweaks and alternates are not the end of the world that some are making it out to be.

You do realize that over the last six seasons only once, in 2010, has UT not worn at least 3 different uniforms, and that in 2009 they actually wore 5?

That's my point though; I don't think most people, even the "traditionalists" mind tweaks or even alternates, but at some point the discussion gets down to how Oregon is the cool one and how we all need to do that, and the discussion ends up divided among those that actually probably agree more than disagree.

I just thought his post was hilarious considering Alabama has won 3 of the last 4 NCs and hasn't hardly changed a freakin' thing on their uniforms in 50 years.

And the team that beat Oregon 3 years ago in the NC game, Auburn, is the same way. Heck Auburn did a throwback against Vandy a few years ago and it was essentially the same uniform.

But the new changes are little and that's what I said in my post 3 million times the word little.

What are you thinking its going to look like? Something the size of the "CAROLINA" on South Carolina's jersey?

Yes, 99% chance that looks bad, but like I said earlier I don't think they have the real estate on the jersey to do that. It will probably be a small mark right below the collar that is hardly noticable (much like the Power T or Adidas logo that's been there in the past).

And my point was they do little changes all the time, basically the same and the same are not the same 😝

Yes, and the argument gets down to those who don't mind the subtle, small changes and those who want big, flashy changes.

The ones who want the Oregon style changes point to the small changes and say 'Hey we have changed, so it's not a big deal"; while the "traditionalists" look at the same thing and say "Yes but the overall look has been basically the same for a long time".

I'm not saying you are doing that, but I'm seeing a lot of those wanting a major overhaul citing the small changes as proof that we should.

We have one of the most recognizable uniforms in all of sports. It's classic, sharp and instantly recognized.
I see no reason in making design changes to the uniform.
