:salute::salute:DucksflyinPAC, thanks for spending so much time trying to give us such great info. Sorry for the drunken hillbilly Keith, but there's one in every crowd. It' s nice to read civil, informative posts on here for a change especially from a future opponent. I salute you.

No problem buddy. I really like Tenn people. As far as that one guy, he's just trolling/fishing. It was obvious from the get go.

I'll be honest Ducksflying,i really don't know what to expect from the Vols this year, you can throw out all of what has gone on the last couple of years from the Vols,i know ya'll (and it isn't you all) have a new head coach too,but he has been in your system for a while,it will be interesting to see what coach Butch will do for a game plan against the Ducks,it is a new Defense and Offense for the mighty Vols and there is a lot of question marks on depth too,so I don't know what to expect from them at all :) UT does have a lot of good players and they have been using the hurry up so practicing against out Offence should have helped our Defense against your Ducks, but who knows at this point,I'm really looking forward to the game

Oh same here! I cannot wait for our game to start. I know we are playing Virginia, but really, I could care less about that game. This Tenn game has me hyped up to the max! I wish the game was already starting now...

I have gotten some great info from all you guys, thanks. I cannot wait to see Oregon, will take the loop out to Mt. Hood on our way from Portland to Eugene. Then Sunday we will leave Eugene and head to the coast and travel to the Redwoods. 7 days later we leave from Denver back to Knoxville. This is going to be an epic journey. I must try this ruby you speak of, is it like a barley wine? GBO!

I think for both team, Tenn and Oregon, we each will know more about our teams after tomorrow. We playing UVA and you playing a actually really good mid major Conference team in Western Kentucky. Tomorrow is a much greater challenge for both our teams then last weekend. And then, we each will know what we will have as a team and our our game next weekend might turn out...

I actually agree with you! I know you all(Tenn people) are too focused in on Western Kentucky. But next week, we will talk some real football much. However, I will add a tiny bit now:

I think your coach/team comes fired up. We will be too, as you are a SEC team. It does not matter you only won 2 Conference games the last 2 years. You are still an SEC team. We will be fired up. Same with our crowd. We will have the want to get ya. lol But I think you actually are going to be able to run good against us, esp up the middle. I just have no confidence yet in our new LB core. They are very young and very lite. (except for one LB that I know is good- Lokombo). But you will not get any deep passes against us, just only a few short ones to our corners. However, you will be able to pass to your RB's out of the flats, and use your TE's. Tenn will have to pick on our LB's, as you do not have a chance with our Corners, or even our whole Secondary really. If Tenn picks on our LB's they will have great success. And run, and run often, esp up the middle. Tenn has a great O-line, so use it!

On D, I do not see you stopping us. We are a engine. And once we get warmed up, Tenn or anybody elts cannot stop us. However, I think the game starts out tight and Tenn will put up a really good fight. I think fellow Duck fans are going to be shocked at how well you run against us. But you better try passing some too, or we will be putting 8-9 guys in the box to stop us. Make our D keep honest ect...even if your passing game sucks, which I expect, but only to our corners. Keep pulling RB's out of the flat and moving TE's out, to isolate our LB's. For it is there and only there will you have any passing success for any significant yards...imo. Final score I predict will be much closer then our last meeting and the atmosphere will be almost like a bowl game for the first half...

Actually, your prescription for attacking your defense sounds very much like what Butch Jones' offenses are historically known for: (1) heavy run emphasis, with lots of two- and even three-tight end sets. These probably will not be fully implemented by the time we play, simply because of our youth and inexperience at that position. (2) a passing game that emphasizes short and intermediate routes, particularly those of a timing nature; and (3) limited use of deep passing game. Butch will take his shots selectively, but you will not see the "mad bomber" approach to throwing the ball which was characteristic of Tennessee last year.

What route are you taking from Oregon back to Denver? If it isn't set in stone yet, I could offer some tips on destinations in portions of Idaho, Wyoming, Utah, and Colorado, depending on your intended general route.

The Sawtooth Mountains in central Idaho and San Juan Range in southwestern Colorado would be highly recommended, particularly for connoisseurs of rugged alpine wilderness. Both areas are relatively lightly visited, particularly in September. Two weeks later and you would have an excellent chance of seeing some spectacular fall foliage. Here is a gorgeous sample from the Sneffels Range near Ridgway and Telluride, Colorado. Sneffels Range Autumn : San Juan Mountains, Colorado : Mountain Photography by Jack Brauer

The Maroon Bells, near Aspen, are far more heavily visited but there is not a more picturesque locale in all of Colorado. See Google Image Result for http://blog.findyourbreakaway.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/maroon-bells-reflected11.jpg

Oh i envy you buddy. You're jaw is going to drop when you see the Redwoods... And your right, it will be such a treat for you out West. And Denver and Colorado in general is also very impressive.

And that "Ruby" beer I mentioned is a Hefeweizen- which is a style. It is a German word for Weat Beer. But the twist is that it has some Raspberries in it. Now, I hate beers trying to masquerade as whine coolers- too fruity. But this is not one. It is not too fruity. It is just he perfect amount. And honestly, I have shared it with perhaps 15-20 women, all ones who hated beer. And I would say, but just try this one, you will like it. And they end up loving it. It's not a girly drink though. It just is the most smoothest beer I ever have, and I am a beer snob. The aftertaste on it will have you taking a sip, and then after licking the top of your mouth with your tongue to get the flavor. And then when your glass is empty, you want every last single drop. It is literally mouth watering. And it sucks cause one cannot buy it in any store. Only at their pubs. But their pubs are everywhere in Oregon. And they have tons of other great beers. But any pub in Western Oregon does. You cant go wrong dropping in any single pub in Western Oregon. Just ask for samples of each. (which will be free). Just tell them you are from Tenn, and you never had any Oregon beer before. They will treat you to many diff kinds to taste, and then pick out one or two or more you want to get a pint of...

And so if you like great Beer, and speaking of Oregon and it's beer; I only have 5 words for you. You will be in Heaven!

Thanks for the report. And if what you say is true, honestly, you guys might really be in this game. And thanks for the info cause I really did not follow Cincy and did not know much of his style there.

After the Redwoods, headed to San Fran for Alcatraz and the warf for a day, then east to Yosemite (want be enough time there, but will get to see el cap and Yosemite valley). Then straight to Flagstaff(i have been here and CO a few times), but i am always interested in new ideas for travel. The last time i went from Denver to flagstaff went through the TN pass, leadville, ouray, and durango area. Any more ideas are always welcomed. Thanks. GBO!

visit the park that rooster cogburn was filmed in it's one of the most beautiful places in oregon. The rapids: are at Benham Falls...... Go to the Lava Butte exit off Hwy 97, and take the paved road NF-9702 about 5 miles to the end. If you have never been there... I can tell you it is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen.

Thanks, i mean UT playing in Autzen is probably a once in a lifetime experience. I will most likely not like the ruby, not a huge hefe weisen fan nor rasberries. I do like sunshine wheat from New Belgium. I am as well a beer snob, was bringing micros back to TN in the mid nineties from CO. When i first found fat tire and does anyone remember Pete's Wicked Ale(not good now, but back inthe day). I can't wait to see the Redwoods and as i said the coast of OR. Again thanks for so much info.

If you are going from Flagstaff back to Denver, ye old trusty MapQuest suggests that Monument Valley, Canyonlands National Park (near Moab, Utah) and/or the Maroon Bells could potentially be worked into your itinerary. Should you choose to work your way farther north in Utah and then come back to Denver via I-70, the Uintah Mountains (see Uinta Mountains | Utah.com) in the northeastern corner of the state becomes a viable option. The Uintahs are a rare mountain range in the United States that runs from west to east and they contain the highest mountains in Utah.

If you are, by any chance, an aficionado of old trains, the southern San Juan range offers a couple of great experiences: the Durango-Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad (Home | Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad Train) and the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad (On the Tracks | Cumbres & Toltec Railroad). If you haven't seen much of New Mexico, the area around Santa Fe, Taos, Angle Fire and Wheeler Peak is really pretty.

If you haven't been to Aspen before, the Maroon Bells (Maroon Bells - Aspen Colorado Mountains - Visitor Information) truly are a must-see destination. You want to take the Maroon Creek and Castle Creek Roads, which provide complementary views of that spectacular area. Incidentally, the aspens at Maroon Lake typically reach peak color around September 25th.

With respect to Yosemite, please be advised that there are still travel restrictions in place due to the wildfires. Presently, smoky conditions may still be encountered, depending on wind direction. I assume that you are already aware of it, but Glacier Point is an absolute must-see in that park; it provides a truly awe-inspiring view down the length of Yosemite Valley, with El Capitan, Half Dome and Yosemite Falls all prominently visible.

I'm a southeastern transplant, currently living in ultra liberal Portland, and I love it. I do tend to leave the politics to the politicians though :).

A couple of minor corrections to what folks have already posted, the rail system downtown is no longer free as of August of 2012, and Mcmenamin's does not suck. The food is not as good these days, but the beer is still pretty damned good.

And if you get a chance, visit McMenamin's Edgefield in Troutdale. It's a concert venue, brewery, winery, 4 star restaurant, has several pubs with live music, a garden, and in true Oregon fashion it has a statue of Jerry Garcia. It's a very cool place to pitch a drunk.

I play in a Southern rock cover band, doing Skynyrd, Allmans, Marshall Tucker, Molly Hatchet, etc. and we stay booked. People here love that sh*t. Plenty of good ol' boys in Oregon, even in liberal Portland.

Thanks so much for the heads up on Eugene. My son and I are really looking forward to the trip. I have a few questions. 1. Is the Phoenix Inn a decent stay and what is the walk to Autzen Stadium like from there? 2. We are whitewater rafting on the McKenzie River. It is a decent place to raft? 3. How far is the drive to Portland from Eugene? Thanks.

1)I have never stayed there, but I looked it up on google maps. It shows a 4.2 star out of 5. It should be a fine place to stay. And the walk is short. There is a little bridge to take you over the river to the stadium. Keep in mind that our stadium is not on campus, and all our athletes do that same walk as you, every single day to the athletic complexes.

2). You should have a blast! I know most of the rivers in my State and am a avid Flyfisherman. However I have never been to the McKenzie. But if it makes you feel better, I believe if memory serves me right, that is the river that our Football Coaching staff take all the players every single year during fall camp to white water raft. And they have a ball.

3)It is 2 hours from Portland to Eugene. Or 2:40 from the Portland Airport(very North part of Portland) to Eugene. However on gamedays, the traffic on I-5 heading down there can be really bad. It all depends on if Oregon State is also playing a home-game around the same time. For for the bulk of both teams fans are in Portland. I just checked and Oregon St is playing on the road, so that will make it better. But 1-3 hours before kickoff I-5, even still can be bad with Duck traffic. If you are staying in Portland, it is a 12:30 pm kickoff, so leave early. You do not have to do anything radical like leaving at 5, 6, 7 am or anything. But keep in mind, your body will be on ET time, so if it were me, I would actually leave at 6-7am, which your body thinks is actually 9-10am (no problem to do).

Lastly, keep in mind that out West, even though we have the best tailgating for the PAC-12, still, West Coast people are not infatuated by tailgaiting like SEC people(Old Miss) ect.. Not many will come the day before or at 4 or 5am to set up their tents. Don't laugh, but when I go to games, I usually arrive just right before kickoff. lol Hey, I have crap to do, like Steelhead fishing in the morning and such. And standing around in Oct and Nov in cold rain tailgating is not my thing. The rainy season/overcast season does not start until mid October, so it should be nice weather for our game however. And do not be shocked if the stadium is not completely full right before kickoff. Many are probably in the Mo center drinking or yet still traveling to arrive there. And we do not have a band like yours, no power T ect... So not many care for pre-game. All we care about is just the game itself. So many things are just going to be a little bit different then you are used to...

hmmm do the free samples come in big mugs Ducksflying ? lol
lol, no. And it's not like places advertise free drinks. You have to ask. You say "Can I try a sample of such and such" and all the pubs/places usually put some in a little shot glass or sometimes just normal pint glasses. And if they know you are serious about buying beer, most will let you try tons of different kinds. But if you play your cards right, you might be able to get a pint or two in total of free beer. lol

Phoenix inn is good. The only bad thing about Eugene is that there is not enough good hotels to stay in. Valley River Inn is probably the best in Eugene.

The Mckenzie river is great for rafting. It's pretty tame compared to other rivers in Oregon, but still a great time. I haven't done the Mckenzie in a while, but it was extremely fun. Are you doing the half day or full day?

So is rain basically to be expected every day this time of year?
No. That is a common misconception about Oregon, that it gets so much rain. But if you look at stats, all the Southern cities get WAY more rain then we do. But we get that rap because it is overcast and sprinkling a lot, and not many sunny days. So it SEEMS that we get tons of rain. When it rains here, it is not hard rain like down south. For the Portland area(and one could say Eugene as well) on a average year, it is overcast(and or lightly raining) from Oct 15th - July 4th. From 4th of July it is hot-August. (but hot for us does not compare to hot like you guys get) Sep-Mid Oct are Indian Summer weather, very mind, and extremely nice. And our winters are extremely mild here in the valley, usually not super cold/no snow. Have to go up in the mnts on either side of the Valley for snow. But it can be depressing all year long until July, cause of the overcast sky's and not seeing the sun. It took me 8 years to adjust to it being from Eastern Oregon- near Idaho cold and snowy in winter but at least sunny all year. And i still hate the weather here in Portland. Basically Western Oregon has the same climate as Ireland or England. Mild for both seasons, but always overcast and lite rain most of the year. But that is what makes our area so lush green, just like in Great Britan.
