Update on King

Oh ok, when you said anyday, I thought you meant any day soon, not 3+ months away.

It's not exactly a rarity to not have all your OV scheduled at the same time. Nichols only has 2 scheduled iirc, King only has 2 scheduled, both will end up visiting UT, dates just aren't set yet.

Yeah, there was some chatter that, despite what he announced, he may forego visits and simply commit. Just chatter though.

Regardless of whether he schedules his remaining visits or not, I think Memphis Madness locks him up. That atmosphere has been designed to grab Memphis area kids since Pastner has been here. Puts us over the top, most likely.

Memphis is definitely the favorite, but as long as he's still taking OVs to here I won't write him off, anything can happen. I'm fairly confident not every player to ever attend memphis madness has committed there.

Keep hope alive. He's not a lock, but sitting in the Forum with 19,000 Memphis fans chanting his name is a near religious experience for a kid who grew up a Memphis fan.

And sitting in neyland seeing the passion of 105k Tennessee fans in orange can do wonders.

Nevermind walkon around the campus and seeing another 400k tailgating and representing UT.

I guess if he was coming to play football.

Interesting to see if you guys bring him in for the Akron game or the Georgia Southern game, too. However, I doubt he gets to see 400k tailgating for those.

I doubt 400k people tailgate any game.

You're right because bringing basketball players in for football games doesn't have and effect on them. You're smarter than that, or atleast I thought you were, I can pull you quotes from recruit after recruit who marveled over a football atmosphere.

Who know, maybe they bring him in for the Alabama game? You're severely underestimating the amount of people if you think he wouldn't see that for a bama Tennessee game.

Could be too late by the Bama game, he could already be a Tiger.

Could be, could not be, point being he doesn't have to come in for a scrub game which is what you were insinuating.

Even if he does though, the atmosphere will be like nothing he's ever seen in Memphis, and that's for a game against Akron.

As I've said, he's a Memphis lean no doubt, not sure why you feel the need to keep defending it. I'm simply saying, like CA has said, he's still taking officials and has taken an UOV to UT. Until he committs there is always that chance.

All venues considered, including your students, yea I think it's probably close to that number for certain games.

Not that It really even matters, but I highly doubt this is accurate. The insinuation that 4x as many people as Neyland holds are around tailgating with no plans of attending the game is a bit far-fetched.

I know a lot of people who go with no intention of attending the game. Heck the game I went to last year we tailgated, had about 45 people, 5 attendees the game.

Not saying thats the case for everyone, and unfortunately I'm not sure that there's any hard evidence. I'm just going by pure guesstimatiom considering all venues in the area, from calhouns vol navy all the way up to the strip and then up on the garages, and everything in between.

He can't be a tiger by then. Early signing is 11-14 to 11-21. UT only has Vandy and UK after 11-14. He may verbally commit before then but UT could bring him in for Bama or Mizzou prior to early signing period starting. l

I haven't been to Boomsday in a while but I found an estimate online that expected crowds for Boomsdsy are 300k to 350k this year. Does this compare to those outside the stadium after kickoff?

That's what I somewhat was going off of as well, was I knew booms day was +300k.

The problem is booms day is confined to about a mile stretch and 100 feet wide, so 300k people packed into that small space is tight.

The tailgating experience isn't nearly that packed, but it's also spread over the entire campus. The parking garages are packed with people, the calhouns area is packed, you have calhouns that's at capacity, and volnavy lined up, and then you the strip and area surrounding it that's mobbed. Start counting in all the area parking lots, the frat houses etc etc and that's where I got my estimate from.

If he commits, he won't be taking any further visits.

Why not? Has he said that publically? If he verbally commits he won't take any more official visits? I watch football recruiting more than basketball so I might be skewed in my thinking. Those guys verbal and then take officials all the time.

Yeah, that doesn't happen too much in bball recruiting.

No, not really. If you put a gun to my head and forced me to put a number on it, I'd say it's 200k or less. Not everyone who attends the game out of the 100k tailgates. In fact, I'd guess it's roughly half to two-thirds at best. This would mean somewhere In the area of 325k or so people who aren't attending the game are tailgating on campus. I've never seen that, but then, I've never counted. I have a hard time believing that twice the population of Knoxville shows up on gamedays.

From my experiences significantly more people are tailgating than attending games. 400k may have been a bit high, but I think realistically it could be 300k people tailgating on big games.

As you said, probably 75k or so that attend the games tailgate. Id say from my experiences about 1/3 of tailgaters attend the game, so that'd mean 150k tailgaters not attending the game, and 75k attending the game, which would be 225k. Somewhere in that range 225-300k is probably fairly close and as close to correct a number as we can come up with.

All my point was, was it an atmosphere King won't find for any sporting event for UofM, that's all.

not saying you are wrong...but you made all these numbers up

Boomsday is a ton of fun but if you dont' have a boat, it sucks! I don't like crowds on top of crowds. I mostly always either abouit get in a fight or lose something. I'm socially disturbed I guess.

I've never experienced it on a boat, but I would say that there are 100's of Thousands of people that don't agree with you.
