Urban Meyer Is a Dirt Bag!

If tOSU allowed Meyer to release that statment, then he isn't getting fired.
That was my first thought as well. But it is more likely that he was asked how much it would take to walk away and knows the writing is on the wall. If the latter is the case he has just accused the University publicly of violating title 9. He's just made himself so radioactive even Petrino couldn't offer him a staff job.

Urban ran the bus over Gene Smith..

Gene was the snake who ratted out Pearl to the NCAA the Monday after we beat them in the Sweet 16 (same month that Tressel lied to Gene/NCAA). Gene has long run the dirtiest athletic department in the country (according to SI).

Gene Smith gonna be the sacraficial lamb.
Clearly the angle here. But people aren’t that stupid. I think it will come down to the lawyers. Because buckeye nation wouldn’t care if Urban were beating his own wife. He’ll continue to have support. It’s like a cult

Admitting he knew and reported it protects his wife.

And it also means the blame shifts to Ohio St. I imagine they'll come out with a statement in a few days saying they investigated the incident in 2015 and didn't find sufficient evidence to support firing Smith. No arrest. No charges. And they never saw the pictures.

This is what they've been doing the past 2 days. It doesn't take someone 10 days from lying about it and 2 from being put on administrative leave to admit he lied at media days.

Either they'll claim they made the best decision with available intel or they'll pick someone to be a new fall guy.

Just take a quick look at his career path. I'm not saying he doesn't have some talent as a coach but he's an opportunist that has a career of taking over programs somebody else partially built and then moving on to the next opportunity. I think his reputation is primarily a popularity contest off of leeching on other men's work and gaining success. I have no problem being suspect in his character.

He’s won everywhere and Utah got into the PAC 12 based on what he transformed them into. Zook left him some recruits and he advanced the talent into a power before he let them slip. Kept a tight reign in Columbus and advanced their talent. If this doesn’t happen he’d have retired when he felt like it and prolly would have added a few trophies. But the weakness in character I agree with...and it may have brought it all down.

More overheard in buckeye land....

-Urban doesn’t deserve this. He and his family are getting drug through the mud
- It’s Zach Smiths wife’s fault for not pursuing this more earlier on and letting it get to this point

Good god
Unreal.

If the AD was the one who called him in then I don’t see a problem with what CUM did. He reported it to his boss. I hate the guy and thought this should take him out. But if his boss is calling the assistant coach that means he reported it up.

They should just put in all the assistant coaches contracts that they are responsible for reporting any unlawful instance directly to police themselves. About all the head coach can do is report it to the AD which means nothing as we found out with PSU.

College football has a storied history of coaches abusing players. Anybody watch the '78 Gator Bowl? Woody Hayes throws a punch to the throat of an opposing player during the game. It was later revealed that Hayes frequently punched players during practice. These are not isolated incidents in one or two programs. Butch was accused of throwing a punch or two during his tenure here...

We rarely hear of this behavior for obvious reasons... We watched the Veritas expose, right? Those guys are even today reluctant to discuss it.

The NCAA should produce a video and/or publish a SOP manual and all recruits should be required to see/read it. Most of these kids wouldn't recognize a legitimate grievance if it bit them in the ass, but there needs to be some guidance. And, yes, it's time to start paying these young men.

The longer this goes on the more it looks like they're just trying to whitewash themselves.

No reason for him to lie at media days unless he's wanting to cover something up. Him "not being prepared to talk about 2015" is the same thing as saying he can't answer the questions without making him or Ohio St look like scumbags.

This is 3 years ago we're talking about. Not 20 years with a completely differently football staff and athletic department. The same head coach and AD are in the same jobs. He knows exactly what happened with the Zach Smith investigation after he reported the allegations.

They’re up **** creek. Urban asked how anyone could make up a story like this. Then turned around and admitted that he knew. And as much as they want this to go away, they have to at least pretend like there’s a legitimate investigation happening.

Uban Meyer sounds like the sort of manipulative scum that would like the idea of bringing in someone like Greg Schiano to his program. Schiano was the same sort of psychotic manipulative P.O.S. that preyed on his players at Tampa Bay. Meyer abused and played head games with his players at Florida. Sounds like "two (2) peas in a pod."

I agree. The ex Mrs. Smith under attack? They'll shut that down, in this environment that will NOT fly. Zach Smith? He's already gone. Urban's wife? He's already covered for her with his last statement and admission. This comes down to who has the juice to stay? It's between Urban and Gene who becomes the villain and gets canned in disgrace.

Gene is a lot cheaper/more replaceable. But there has to be some evidence that this was reported and investigated.

The investigation happened 3 years ago.

Probably not a coincidence that the same day Urban releases his statement that he reported the incident and acted appropriately, Zach Smith does an interview and says Gene Smith knew about 2015.

Urban reported it so he's in the clear unless Ohio St comes back saying they recommended Urban fire Smith. Doubt anyone would believe that. If Ohio St wanted Smith fired he would have been.

My guess- they make Smith the fall guy, or say since there was no arrest or charges in 2015 they didn't feel the need to fire him.

But it clearly didn’t. That’s why urban and only urban is on leave now.
