Urban Meyer Out at Florida (merged)

I think Foley knows who he wants and I bet Meyer will help with the process..

I'm leaning that way. I expect some circle the wagons thing. That's why I was thinking Charlie, but they could circle around somebody else.

Who does Urby love (as a coach, Tebow, doesn't count)?

Just doesn't strike me as a fraternity man. none of the famous alumni from mine strike me as fraternity guys for that matter...edit: not a knock on meyer...

I understand that, we have several that you just wouldn't imagine being fraternity men. I guess that's how it goes with some. That's what makes it a unique bond of brotherhood.

perhaps the health problems are totally real, but it's a convenient reason for him to leave because he sort of wanted to anyway and he doesn't want to coach a team that has a decent chance of losing 2-4 games.

perhaps if he has tebow and his coaches for next season, he finds a way to coach through the health issues because he really wants to be there. that explanation would certainly fit with his personality.

Rumor has it that Bill Parcells has been contacted and has shown some interest. Once again this is just a rumor.

I'd rather go for a more exciting rumor and deal with that later. He's got such a sweet deal in Miami and that seems to suit him. It's the new role model for all these ex-SuperBowl Champion coaches.

Besides, if he had any interest in coaching, color him Cowboys to go back and finish what he started for some mega deal.

ESPN - mortensen says meyer to accept "non-coaching role."

this just gets even fishier.

stated reason will probably be "less stress."

The real reason may have more to do with the doctors at Shands keeping tabs on him in Gainesville.

Hopefully tomorrow's press conference will shed some light on all this.

What's your hunch, Lawrence? Do you already have his replacement lined up?

Louisville media relations director Rocco Gasparro said Saturday night that Strong had signed a term sheet with the school, but not a formal contract. It is unclear whether the term sheet would be a sticking point should the Gators turn to Strong to replace Meyer.

Interesting quote from the article on espn.com

You better watch it fang boy... :realmad:

I am not one to piss off a squirrel, but there are a few posters on this board that are taking Meyers health issue a little too far. I'm lactose intolerant, have hemorrhoids, sunlight burns my skin, and have a phobia towards wooden stakes, but no one seems too concerned about me :cray:

Fascinating insight.

Back to Meyer; who is Kiffin going to verbally jab now? Saban?

i actually hope lane tones down that kind of talk. it served its intended purpose and brought attention to a floundering program.

i see no incentive in doing it anymore. obviously, he has to keep his brashness (not in terms of deliberately jabbing other teams but in terms of telling things like they are, unlike fulmer) and his energy.

on meyer...seriously...i wouldn't be surprised if he is florida's head coach next season.

UM had a 1st class beat down coming at Neyland in 2010. No wonder his heart is a little weak. To bad he couldn't take it like a man and left a bunch of kids he recruited in the lurch. No Tebow no Strong and now no Meyer. It makes total sense.
I would say He is a man and wants to live to be with His family.

Dear Urban – My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.:hi:
Dear Gator Fans - :eek:lol: Couldn’t happen to a better fan base.
You should have heard Chris Fowler on ESPNNEWS earlier...threw the entire fanbase under the bus. To hear him tell it, the pressure of 12-1 not being good enough got to Urban.

My hunch is these health reasons were ignored longer than any of us know. The latest info is saying he's been to the hospital multiple times for chest pains, headaches and nausea.

I think he's staying in Gainesville for several reasons:
1. He likes it there.
2. His son is in middle school.
3. He's comfortable with the doctors at Shands who likely knew about this situations long before we did.

As far as replacements go, I'd like to see Stoops or possibly Butch Davis, although Butch Davis would not be a popular choice in Gainesville.

I'm wondering if this a ploy to get out of contractual obligations with UF to pursue different opportunities.

Doubt it. He's been hospitalized 3 times with chest pains since the SECCG per ESPN and has been found to have a heart muscle defect.

Report: Meyer had in-season heart attack
Posted by John Taylor on December 26, 2009 8:39 PM ET
While the news that Urban Meyer was stepping down was shocking in and of itself, at least one of the details that's beginning to trickle out does not do justice to the word "stunning".

According to a report from WKMG-TV in Orlando, Meyer had suffered a heart attack this year. During the football season.

Citing an unnamed source, sports director Dave Pingalore reported that Meyer did not inform anyone that he'd suffered a heart attack. Again, Pingalore reports that Meyer suffered a heart attack during the football season and didn't inform anyone.

Nor did he miss a single game or, as far as we're aware, a single practice.

As the Grand PFT Poobah is wont to say, wow.

If this report is indeed true, that Meyer failed to inform anyone that he was having issues with his heart, then it was certainly time for Meyer to take a step back and step away from the game.

Football is a helluva game, the best sport going, but it's certainly not worth risking your health -- or life -- over.
