Urban Meyer will never win a National Title without Tim Tebow.

I don't remember the specific games (I'm not a FL fan.), but I do remember Tebow being put in during that season on several key 4th downs and getting the first down. At the time, FL did not have a RB that could have done that, and Leak definately would not have been able to do it.

i'm sure he's never picked up a 4th and 1-2 in his life.

I've never understood why teams cannot stop Tebow's run on third and 2/3/4 when they know it's coming and can run blitz on the edge and up the middle. And yet, nobody can stop the guy. Actually, I do know why reason: the guy runs like a pretty good fullback; still it's crazy teams can't.

As for Meyer: I see no reason why he can't go--won't go out--and find another good combo QB like tebow. Florida will get who they need, unfortunately. Will they find somebody AS good in every way as tebow? Maybe not, but they will find plenty of good players. Florida got very good this decade while we floundered around and went downhill with that idiot Fulmer--and so many people still wanted to keep him for years!! Scary.

I am sure Meyer can win with another qb, but Tebow does seem unique in the physical sense, at least for a quarterback. Help me out here. Has anyone ever seen a qb built like him before? He seems like Lance Armstrong in cycling, a freak of nature.

Daunte Culpepper comes to mind.

Never is a strong word. He probably had at one time, but he wasn't going to do it in the situations where Tebow got it in that season. It wasn't always 4th and 1-2 either.

Let me ask you this. Do you think Leak could have picked up the hard yardage like Tebow has been able to do? If your answer to this is yes, then we have different opinions of Leak. If your answer is no, then we are debating more about how that season played out for FL.

Same build - yes
Same build with the "it" factor - no.

There have been others with the "it" factor, and there have been others with a similar build, but I can't recall another college QB who's had the combination of both.

I know it is a great honor and responsibility to start at QB for an SEC school, especially a place like us or FLA, but I would not want to be the guy that has to follow Tebow. It's like being the guy that replaces a legendary coach. Everything that Brantley does or whoever the next guy is will be put under a microscope and compared to Tebow.

Us and Florida...LOL...we don't belong in the same sentence as Florida. Maybe Us and Mississippi State...

that may be true but with those breaks and them without tebow we win that game

That's kindof like saying if you weren't so ugly, and if she didn't have that boyfriend, you could have had that fine girl.

FL will be different without Tebow, when he leaves. They may not ever totally replace what he has done @ FL. That said they are still FL, and still have as much talent if not more than anyone else.

And if Baraaaccckk wasn't black he'd be white (Or purple or green). Good luck with that argument.

that's ludicrous. we got loads of breaks to even be in that game.

IMO Florida got the bigger breaks in that game. The block in the back on James' return sprung him - so that isn't really a break. There is a reason it is an illegal block, and without it he doesn't score that TD, so it isn't a break.

The biggest break in the game went Florida's way. I think in the 3rd quarter, at around their own 25-30 yard line, Chris Leak is under duress and throws a pick-6 that gets called back because one of our Dlineman (i want to say Turk McBride) barely hit his helmet with his hand afterwards..Come to think of it, it reminds me alot of Terell Suggs and Kerry Collins earlier this year when the Titans beat the Ravens. The "roughing the passer," as was called on the field, had nothing to do with the pick-6. If Mcbride can keep his hand back, it is a pick-6 and we win that game. A little hand to the head should not be a foul like that. The DLineman have a lot of momentum and it is awful hard to tell when to stop (just ask Mathias Kiwanuka, who let go of Vince Young in 2006 on a 4th and 11, because he thought he heard a whistle and didn't want to draw a penalty/fine).

Most ignorant post I have seen in a long time. It wasn't about the stats buddy. He came in and converted critical 3rd and 4th downs. Not only that, he pumped up his team and got momentum firmly on their side. And if you want to deny the momentum/intensity factor of Tim Tebow, then why don't you just go ask Oklahoma why they couldn't stop him last night in the 4th quarter when he took his team on his back and basically said "I will not be denied, and you will not stop me."

Tim Tebow is a leader for that team, and every time he came in the game in 2006, he was pumped up, his team was pumped up, their fans were pumped up. He WAS a deciding factor, not only in our game, but throughout the whole season. To say anything else is downright ignorant.

UT should have won that 06 game against UF---the vols got hosed by the ref on that late hit on Leak, that gave UF a first down instead of a pick 6 by UT.
Much like they got hosed by the block in the back call on the punt return TD. If the first call is right, the second never happens. We benefited.

Colin Cowherd stated this morning that if TT stays he will cement himself as the greatest college football player EVER...

IMO, UF will be good post TT but they will come back to the field.... UF and CUM will be in the discussion no more or no less than LSU, USC, OU, Texas, Ohio St, etc.

Heck, they had several narrow escapes in 2006 and were lucky to even be in the NC game. Also, the offense was their weakness in 2006... I vividly remember the anti UF media bashing their O during the whole Michigan/UF debate.

If TT doesn't convert on 4th down and Ainge avoids a 15 yard sack (1st and 10 from UF 40 with 1 min remaining) UT beats UF in 2006... UF won 21-20

Even so, 8 yards min and UT has a game winning FG attempt for the victory.... 1st and 10 from UF 40 turns into 2nd and 25 after the EA sack.... Potentially 3 rushes and a FG and UF is out of the NC discussion.

The 2006 team is nowhere near the 2008 team.

I call shenanigans on this post. Meyer is the best coach in the country, bar none. He will win more national championships at Florida....period.

Well said...with the recruits he has coming in....he should be able to win another w/o Tebow.
