I made the comment last night and got horse laughed. But if we just took out Soleimani, why not just Assad and Putin on notice, as well? Or any other military or world leader on notice that disagrees with us. If you don't walk the line with the US, we drone strike assassinate you...I don’t think this evolves into a full fledged war. For all we know, this is just the thing to get the attention of the leaders in Iran to let them know the gloves are off. They were bragging that Trump couldn’t do a damn thing, well he just did bigly.
Obama was wrong about the video excuse during the last Embassy attack. Your post made it seem like there was a definite link to him being in the city and the "attack" on the embassy. If the embassy attack was the best the Iranian terrorist mastermind could muster, was he really that much of a terrorist mastermind.? What did I say Obama was wrong about? I didnt know that Soleimani was there, was he?
I think it does put them on notice, if you direct covert attacks on US citizens or our allies you are subject to waking up dead.I made the comment last night and got horse laughed. I am skeptical too. But considering this was an undeniably bad guy, and there was little to no collateral I think that gets benefit of the doubt. That doesn't explain the decision to take him out now. I mean, according to everyone he has been a major terrorist figure for a long time. I suppose it could be the case that this is the first time we could get to him outside of Iran. I could see wanting to wait until such an opportunity presented itself.
I doubt we will know that for a long time. But I do think it is natural to be skeptical about it, and especially so at the moment.
It's fine to question it. My point is acting like the concept of questioning it and hoping we don't get in an endless war isn't exactly ground breaking sentiment.
IOW - Mayor Pete didn't provide us with some deep, insightful analysis here. It's what pretty much anyone would say (other than screaming partisans on either side). If we want to give him credit for not being an extremist then I guess that's something.
