USU Aggies Spring Ball Video

As a side note I am looking forward to my trip to Knoxville. Besides tailgating and mingling with you good Tennessee folks at the game, what should I be eating/doing while I'm in Knoxville?

Plenty of knoxville-specific places to eat, but as for tourist attractions, our Statue of Liberty is the stadium. It truly is a massive, massive spectacle, especially from the inside.

Food wise, everyone here says to try Ye Olde Steakhouse. It's about 15 min from the stadium. I've never had it personally, but it's supposed to be great. As for exploring the area, there are some very cool aspects of Knoxville. World's Fair Park is very nice, and Market Square is basically a perfect square in the middle of downtown that is surrounded by restaurants. Great date place.

There's also this really cool aspect of downtown that's called "The Old City". Basically downtown Knox is one long strip, and you can turn off of it and you go down a hill into the old city, which is the old downtown Knox. It's a lot of old, historic buildings and cool restaurants.

Welcome to the south! I hope your stay here is great. This is football country. When our kids first learn to walk, we put a football in their hands, before they can walk we're teaching them fumble recovery. Your team is going to lose, but I promise you the second the game is over, we will all be wanting you to go undefeated for the rest of the season.

Coach Jones & the entire staff will have #Team118 ready to beat Utah State in a packed filled Neyland Stadium. No disrespect to Utah State because they will be upset minded but Coach Jones & the entire staff give #Team118 a edge.

I tend to agree with your prediction being the most likely outcome. However, I still stand by my eariler posts of any given Saturday a team can be defeated by a lesser talented team if the stars line up that day.

Thank God this game is on Sunday.

Anything can happen, wet field wet ball. I don't know how many times in my life I have seen a lesser talented Florida or Alabama Team defeat the Vols.

You should go visit "The Lost Sea" in Sweetwater, TN (about 30 miles south of Knox's) it's a guided tour into a cave and at the bottom is a 4-5 acre lake that they take you out on in a boat. It's pretty cool. I think it's the largest underground lake in the America's.

Another thing to consider is that Jones' O system and USU's O system are somewhat similar. Both D's will have seen the same or similar plays to what the other runs in practice.

That makes it even MORE a matter of talent, athleticism, and matchups... I think the dominant mismatch is UT's WR's vs USU's DB's. Even with a good LB in Vigil, I think UT's run game matches up better against USU's front 7 than vice versa. Because of overal athleticism, I believe UT's DB's will do better vs USU's WR's than vice versa... not shut down but "better".

No disrespect, but what in the heck does that statement mean? I suppose against Florida last year, Coach Jones and company just didn't give a crap.

USU is not Florida. Or even close to it. No matter their record last yr USU doesnt have a fraction of their talent. Nor do you have the talent of Mizzou,Carolina, UGA, Bama, and so forth. just stop. I dont get why you think USU is such a powerhouse and so much better than UT.

you really got to stop comparing our downfalls and your success. You have continued to ignore the diff in level of competition everytime its been brought up. It doesnt make sense and it has no impact on August 30th. its getting so old. You guys have won games and thats good. But youre not playing anyone. stop with the troll job man.

You act like UT is going to lay down for you in their own building on the first weekend of the year. I dont get it.Its not going to happen. This team while young in some spots is alot more talented. Your Secondary will get torched. You have 8 returning starters. Even less than we do. That is also without counting Hill & Keeton . I know they are coming back but they are complete unknowns right now. You also have about 3 others on the 2 deep defense that are gone outside of the starters. Technically youre in worse shape than we are.

First. Don't flatter yourself. You're no Florida.

Second. Last year's team was actually two teams in one. One was made up of the Srs... the other was "Jones' guys". Not all guys he recruited but guys IMO that he created development plans to be ready to step in for the guys who moved on. THe guys he knew would be back for '14.

The experiment may not work. But I have begun to buy the notion (and others will tell you I didn't come to it easily) that one off season is NOT enough time for Jones to "shape players in his image".

It seems to me that he made some sacrifices in '13 that could have given UT another win or two in order to take a step forward in '14.

Oh... btw. Jones tried something for UF that failed miserably. He had the gumption to try it. But it probably cost him a good shot at a win. He gave Ferguson (correction Peterman) the first half even though he struggled through the whole thing. The team responded to Worley's return but they just weren't ready to make that kind of come back at that point.

I salute Jones for having the guts. It didn't work out. But I respect the try.

Think you meant Peterman.

But... but.... but.... in the last 3 years UT has lost a bunch of games while they've figured out how to beat New Mexico, UNLV, Colorado St, et al. You KNOW those teams are just as tough to beat as the ones you listed... you just don't want to see how great USU is.<sarcasm>

It does get fairly ridiculous. Most of their fans posting here and on their site absolutely refuse to address in any objective way the difference in competition or talent on the two rosters. According to them, UT replacing outgoing players with 4/5* youth is sure to continue the last few years of struggle... while their replacing their outgoing players with 2* talent is sure to mean perpetuation of their "greatness".

I've literally checked this thread every day for the past week to read your responses, it's pure gold. Not all, but most seem to be looking through navy tinted glasses.

USU game seems to be leaning towards a Petrino led Western Kentucky type deal.....where all the hype was there(WKU may beat us..yadayada).....but ended up with Petrino almost begging Butch to not get a 6th int/turnover in a row....and call the dogs off.

Hate to rehash this thread. BUT

Adam Kramer via twitter just said

" Utah State by 6.5 vs. Tennessee "

Clearly he is ignorant.

Line came out yesterday...UT is favored by 6.5 vs USU.
That equates to about a 2:1 favorite.
USU posters: if you want to discuss the matchup I'd recommend the football talk thread in the recruiting forum. I think you'd get a better reception there than here and a less moronic one-sided discussion. Personally, I'd have made this line -7.5 and I'd have happily taken USU there. Anybody who thinks this team will be similar to South Alabama or WKU or some trivial team is dead wrong. I've seen enough of USU to understand they are probably one of the top 30 teams or so in the country.

Agreed I think it'll be a close game.

last yr they were MAYBE. Not sure about their squad this year. they lost even more than UT. As far as talent, they probably are very simliar to WKU. WKU has recruited better than USU.

btw, where did you find that line? i was looking for it.

They are better than WKU and S. Alabama, but not a chance they are a top 30 team.

Says everybody who's never seen Utah State play football ever before.

i saw them several times last yr. they lost about 15 starters. They were solid but they also played nobody. Not really sure what to make of them. Iam not sure they will be as good this year. i dont think they were a top 30 team even though they werent bad. i think they lost to all the decent teams they played except NIU. Nonetheless they are solid. but they have more questions than we do going into 2014 and thats saying something. Atleast we replaced it with some big time talent.

Driven by it over a thousand times...when I lived in Tennessee..when I visit this Summer I think I'll finally check it out

We all have confirmation bias and interpret things through orange or blue colored goggles, depending on allegiance. I appreciate a wide variety of opinions, including yours. I tend to agree with you. I think this game will be competitive.
