USU Aggies Spring Ball Video

Tough to draw any conclusions from either spring game, IMO. I do agree that you have a beastly WR core that will cause us problems. Our secondary is unproven and certainly a concern. I won't go out on a limb I know everything I need to know about them from a spring game. Both squads have guys coming in for the fall that can make a difference. A good pass rush can make a world of difference for a secondary. We will see if the front seven can get any pressure. Also- do you have QB who can get the ball to these stud WRs? I know that's a bit of a question mark for you as well.

Overall there are lots of question marks on both sides. Excited to be in the stadium to see it all play out.

Another thing I noticed that I believe will favor the team with more/better athletes is that UT and USU play a fairly similar O scheme. Both teams will run quick screens. Both teams will try to isolate S/LB's on slot receivers and make big plays with slants. Both will run similar inside/outside zone plays. Neither wants their QB to run often but do want them to run effectively.

There are obviously nuances but neither D should feel as "uncomfortable" as they might otherwise feel.

Except tennessee fans are saying they're going to lap usu three times and that a snail on a bike has a better shot to win than usu. And that their pit crew could beat usu on our best day.

Pretty much. You need a great game and some bounces plus a poor game by UT to win.

FWIW, the HP difference between the two Series cars would easily result in the lesser car being lapped 3+ times in a normal race. You made a good analogy without intending to....

You also called yourself Jeff Gordon. Seeing how he's the one guy I can name, I'd say you're reaching. I didn't know tennessee had won a natty before I came to this board. No offense or anything. I was just 10 or 11 when it happened.

The vast majority are not this and you surely can distinguish between an uninformed sycophant who thinks his team could whip the '85 Bears vs a fan who understands where both programs currently are and expects a competitive game despite UTs superior talent (albeit very young talent).

I know you have ridiculous and arrogant USU fans .... a couple of them post here regularly.

I don't know. I'd put it at 80-20 on here who think UT is up 30 in the 3rd. I've enjoyed some of the ones who came to our board though, and fans on twitter seem worried, as does the tennessee fan I know in real life.

Let me get this straight. You have no earthly idea about Tennessee's tradition and history of winning, had no idea that we won a natty 15 short years ago and are one of only 8 teams in NCAA football history to win 800+ games....and you're on here talking all kinds of shiite about us when your team has absolutely no tradition and no history of anything positive outside of Merlin Olsen from the early 1960s. Wow.

You're beginning to rival a Vanderbilt fan who talks trash about "owning the state of Tennessee" after winning 3 of the last 33 vs UT.

USU comparing themselves to Boise is funny. Boise has recruited much better than Utah State and will prob win the Conference title this yr more than likely.

15 years is long ago enough that none of them will be on the team. I isn't get the tradition talk when discussing a game matchup. It has no part in it. If you swap akron's roster with Alabama, they're not going to be more likely to win with bad players because of tradition. I also am not talking crap. Most of my posts consist of me stating usu's strengths and weaknesses, then having y'all say our strengths are all terrible and there's nothing worth redeeming on our roster.

We're not comparing ourselves to Boise. They had an incredible run. Bcs games, #2 ranking, conference championships, etc. we didn't even beat them last year at home in their worst season in a long time (though I think we would have with chuckie). They're our goal. We want to reach their level of the last 8 or so years. We aren't there yet, but we make positive progress every year.

except this yr when they return about 15-16 starters and you return 7 or 8 and two of your returners that i didnt count are coming off surgery. USU wont do it this yr in my opinion.

We return 10 including those two, so 8 without is accurate. Don't see how tennessee returns 15-16 when they lose 8 just on the lines. That caps you at 14 if you didn't lose anybody else. Since were not counting injured players returning though, that takes out maggit and your QB. Now at 12 if you didn't lose anybody else.

That is the question. You will enjoy your visit to Knoxville. There is no better setting in college football in my opinion.

There's absolutely no way 80% of posters think UT will be up 4 tds in the 3rd, not after what we've been through the last 6 years, I don't care who we're playing. Do we expect to beat USU? Yes. Do any fans expect to be up 30 pts in the 3rd....only the idiots IMO.

we return 10-11 starters. and added alot of young talent. some really elite talent. Im also counting Pig until i hear otherwise and his name is removed from the roster.

you lost 4 out of 7 on your front seven (two DL, Two LB)
also lost a backup DE who played a good bit

3 in the secondary and two backup DBs (Tay Glover Wright, Lawson, Alexander, Sanders, Byrd)

4 out of 5 on the o line (everyone except whimpey)

starting TE ( some polynesian name i cant say)
top two WRs (TV, TR)

hill and keeton return from acl

so you lost like 13 or 14 starters without counting keeton and hill along with a few backups. it is what it is.

not really worried about our d line bc it wasnt productive anyway. maggitt is our best defender and hes back. Hes played alot of football. the other D line guys have all played so its not as green as you think. they just havent been labeled "starters" before and quite frankly it cant be any worse. Overall, theres no denying USU didnt lose quite a bit more across the board than UT

exactly....i expect about a 10 pt victory or somewhere close to 10

You know what, you're right. Your posts have been as you described. Apologies. Must've gotten you confused with that idiot agr4 who posts on here.

OK. You found the flaw in the analogy. USU doesn't have an equivalent car (players) for the race. UT would have to run out of gas.

The difference is your team is 10x closer to Akron than we are talent or tradition wise.

Oddsmakers' jobs aren't to predict outcomes. Their jobs are to get roughly equal numbers to bet on either side of a line.

IOW's, they don't look at rosters nor care about any of the details we're talking about. They don't care about the likely nor actual outcome of the game. They ONLY care about getting people to bet.

Early season odds in college football could be the least reliable in all of college sports. Most bettors do not do alot of research. Some will be in a game pool that chooses "interesting" games. Some will bet Parlay cards. Others are more serious and will actually do a little research beyond the pre-season football mags.

Early games are by far the MOST subjective betting lines. Your late winning will influence more than it should as will UT's recent struggles. Predictions of you finishing in the top 3 of the MWC (assuming) will "matter" compared to UT who will be predicted more than likely to finish in the bottom half of the SECE and to have another losing record.

Few if any will get deep enough to actually look at matchups in a game like this. They'll be satisfied with that 6 pt line.

How the hell do you think they do that? By putting out a very accurate line. If anything, the public perceives Tenn to be much better than USU, so wouldn't the oddsmakers compensate for that? And make the line even higher in favor of Tenn compared to what it is by their statistical analysis?

People act like they pull these spreads out of their asses and hope the public bets 50/50. The best way to get 50/50 betting is by putting out a perfect line. They adjust accordingly if the betting is too lopsided. The opening line is almost always the closest, most accurate representation of what they believe both teams are worth.

I tried watching the USU/NIU game and was very underwhelmed. NIU was blowing through the USU line for most of the night. NIU played sloppy and uninspired. I don't see UT playing that way...not at all.

Yeah USU didn't win that game, NIU lost. During the second half before we took a two td lead with under three to go and went into prevent we had allowed one first down---on a fake punt. We allowed them under 50 yards rushing in the second half. But yeah, they were blowing through our line most of the night.

Utah State fans have made this game a bit more important to me. I just wanted to get through it with no injuries. Now it feels like we need to smash them in response to the somewhat insolent nature of their fans. They should not be on here talking smack. The only reason they are is because they think that we are down. Which is typical.

NIU was a very bad defensive team in the MAC. They had 220 and 230lb DEs for crying out loud. They were one dimensional offensively and had just lost the week before to Bowling Green. You won 21-14. The poster should have been underwhelmed like he said he was. USU offense didnt do much. Then you realize 80% of that USU team is now gone then we shouldn't be too worried.
