UT Football. Is it plausible to believe we can win it all?

Our rushing stats were similar to USC last season (4.1 vs 3.7 per). And I expect our run game to improve as well.
you do realize that's basically a full 1/2 yard better per carry right? which could translate to between 10-15 yards a game, 3-4 more 1st downs a game, which could add another 10 minutes or so to TOP?

There's always a chance. I don't see a game on UT's schedule that they can't win.

Most here would rather see a 7-5/8-4 season so they can say I told you so. If it happens I will be as upset as anyone but I will never cheer for UT to lose just so I can be right.

Disclaimer: I enter every season thinking UT will win every game and don't know any other way. I've been disappointed every year but 1. (looked like a freakin genius that year!)

i would love to see a 12-0 season and everybody can rip on me and i would be the first to admit i was wrong. i can honestly say though i just don't see it happening. heck winning the sec would be like a early christmas present.

That's not a linear analysis with proven correlations. To equate 0.4 ypc to 10 minutes in TOP is incorrect. Both averages equate to runnning it three times for a first down.

Any team in the SEC would have had the best defense in the their conference last year (P10 had three teams that averaged less than 20 pts given up compared to 8 in the SEC). UT played three teams with better defenses than theirs.

Please tell me you don't really believe that.

ok. i guess a 1/2 yard isn't that much.:eek:lol:

Litterally, no. But my point was that having the best defense in the P10 isn't saying much.

and i did use "could" in my post. not "would".

bottom line is, 1/2 yard a carry is not just a decimal point off or two.

here's the way i look at it. 3rd and 4 is the down.

who gets the 1st down? who keeps the ball another 2 minutes or so with a new set of downs?

i know it's not a catch all for every situation.....but a 1/2 yard is important in football.

Here's another stupid idea brought forth by Fulmer supporters to dismiss those who would have Fulmer deposed. I seriously tire of these idiotic accusations. People are tired of Fulmer because he's been mediocre or bad for awhile now. I like the guy, but the only reason I'm ready to see him go is because I don't think he'll get us back to an elite level. Certain posters like IE 95 think he will. Thus, they want to keep Fulmer around. Everybody wants the same thing: UT back on top of the SEC. If that happens next year, that would be phenomenal. If it doesn't, you'll probably hear a lot of posters say, "I told you so." That doesn't mean they are happy about the program's decline.

see, that's what gets me. No one takes in to account what a team actually does........it's all about name recognition. that's the whole problem with polls these days. those teams you mentioned above, like it or not, deserving or not, all play in a BCS conf. If one of htem were to go undefeated they would not get a shot simply because of the "name" written across their chest.

Let me ask a question......how does a school get tradition? tradition has to start somewhere, and under the current system, it's not even possible to do so, because they don't have any to begin with.

ridiculous.

Listen... way to read the sentence right before that... I said that **does not** mean that the team isn't any good.. it's just weird.

Way to rip my post and turn it into something it isn't. Either way, I'll never give a team like Rutgers my respect untill they continue to have success after Schiano leaves. I'm not degrading these no-namers.. but it's just sad to have the Big East turn into such an unknown league.

I don't believe this.
I don't either. I really don't think that there are very many people with negative outlooks who wouldn't love to be proven wrong. In fact, I think that in general people with negative outlooks tend to be proven wrong a lot.

:good!: whatever. you and i both know if Rutgers had beaten L'ville and WVU and finished undefeated, they would not have gotten a shot at the NT. and it would have only been for one reason. the word "rutgers" written across the front of the jersey.

remember we operate in a college football world that sent a team that finished 3rd in it's conf. to the national title game......Nebraska. the same world that sent a team that lost it's conf. championship game, OK, to the national title game.

Yeah, it is flawed for sure.. but there isn't much we can do about it. Either way, I'd rather watch Ohio State get blown out by Florida in the N.C. game rather than Rutgers getting blown out by Florida (if they were to have gone undefeated last year).

Was there an undefeated team around that got screwed over in favor of those teams?

Yep, I remember that Nebraska team. They lost 62-37 or something like that to Colorado I believe and they went on to the championship game. Then, the next year Oklahoma was defeated to Kansas State in the Big 12 champ game only to advance on to the national championship to lost to USC very badly.

That depends on what you consider negative/positive.

Actually Oklahoma went on to lose to LSU. The next year they lost to USC.

thank you for proving my point.

can't remember. but i'm sure there were other CONFERENCE CHAMPIONS those years that could make better cases than the 2nd and 3rd place teams in the Big 12.

That year Oklahoma was defeated to LSU USC was #1 in the coaches poll and the USA Today poll, but never got a chance to play for the championship.

Notice *they both get blown out* so what does it matter? I didn't prove your point.. either way it was clear that Florida was the National Champion.

There's no real way of knowing who deserves to be there.. and yes, the Big East will get the shaft most of the time because they have the worst bottom half of any BSC conference ever. Auburn is far from a no name school, but they got screwed in 2004.. its not just small schools that get it, someone has to go to the NC.
