Agree 100%. You just can't compare to winning the lottery though. Otherwise, we could make a case for every champion in every sport just "winning the lottery." It always takes a little luck.

how about his other FF? good fortune? lucky sob.

so, the FFs and NCs and sustained success under bd were good luck, but lk just had bad luck.

my excuse 4 him is what i call being a human being.

maybe hes a jerk. but the guy has won. a lot. even when he didn't "win the lottery."
Yeah, losing to Temple, Manhattan, and Creighton as high seeds is huge winning. We'll see reaches the Final Four next, Donovan or Gillispie. I'm quite certain the answer to that question will give me even more ammuntition to ridicule people.

he isn't winning now. That was my point. He has won, but underachiever mightily prior to the guys that got it done.

I didn't call Kruger's results bad luck. I said he was starting from scratch while Donovan wasn't.

r u really going there? really?

okay.

speights would be the best post player and best overall player in the sec, and it wouldn't be close. he'd fill the most gaping hole on that team.

Don't worry BPV is only trying to impress Hat. Arguing with either is pointless. I find it way more fun actually trying to understand where they are coming from haha

I'm not saying the first one is luck. I'm simply saying the second one is the product of an immense dose of good fortune. Without that, as I said earlier, Donovan's resume is no better than Steve Fisher's.

Triple word score for the Steve Fisher reference! :)

Yet you support a man who has lost to Gardner Webb, San Diego, VMI, etc... in two seasons. Based on six years of coaching and rebuilding Texas A&M. That is TExas A&M with Acie Law. I mean yea maybe your right, just hard to understand your logic.
I love it whan people put San Diego on that list. Anyone remember who beat Gonzaga in the WCC finals last year, then knocked UCONN out of the NCAA Tournament?

Coach K lost to Virgina Commonwealth a few years back and shoulda lost to belmont last year.
Your thoughts?

On what? That a guy with three National Championships and a gaggle of Final Four appearances spread across twenty years had a couple of bad NCAA tournaments? How many NIT appearances has Duke made in the last 20 years?

The same guy who got Tulsa to the Elite Eight. How many of those did Donovan reach at Marshall?

Considering I was differentiating the difference between his two titles, your use of Dictionary.com for humor purposes is a massive failure.

what's the difference btwn fortune and luck? why use different words if there's none? or if you're using the definition meaning "wealth," that's either due to BD's hard work, or, as you say, "luck."

In either case, your point isn't solid.

The same guy who was assured a share of the Big Twelve title tonight, despite having his National Title team gutted by early entries and graduation. I guess you'd be more impressed if he was ticketed for the NIT.

good to know you refuted your own point about creighton, etc.

and how many second NCs does Self have?

and how many NCs did Florida have pre-BD? Same with Kansas pre-Self?

no. it means i'm not any less impressed with BD's accomplishments prior to two sub-par seasons where he has lost, what, 6 guys to the nba?

Keep digging. When Donovan is sitting around five years from now still having never advanced past the Sweet 16 since his National Titles, and Self is sitting on another title and at least two Final Fours, this will provide me almost as much fun as pulling up IE 95's proclamations that Nick Saban would make no difference at Alabama.

I would love for pearl to underachieve and make it to the nc title game, just like cal did last yr.

Hat's reference material: The Future.

Pretty difficult to refute that.

I'll take you at your word and say, "You're welcome for all the future fun you'll receive from a stranger on a UT Message Board."

Paul Hewitt and Mike Davis made National Title games. Without consistent excellence to buttress it, one trip there isn't a mark of anything.

The past is already done. Inability to gauge future results is why a bunch of ham and eggers are sitting around crying about getting their houses foreclosed on and their 401Ks being worth a bag of sand.
