Ut Gets first round bye

Florida is not a Duke, UNC, Kentucky, Indiana, or UCONN. It's no where near as easy to recruit to Gainesville as it is to those places I just listed. Considering the large number of NBA talent Billy D has produced over the years, to say he is not a good recruiter is absolutely absurd.
Outside of one recruiting class, where is this "large number of NBA talent?" Mike Miller?

Miller and Jason Williams come to mind...I can't think of anyone else at the top of my head, but if you take away his best class where 5 Gators were drafted, then it would obviously be harder to prove my point

Also, if you want to criticize Billy D's coaching job, just look at where they were ranked in the preseason of their first title run. He turned an unranked team into national champions.

If you take away that one class, his resume is about the same as Mike Davis. That's the point. Anyone expecting Florida to ever return to that kind of success under Donovan are counting on lightning striking twice in the same spot. Not going to happen.

they were also far and away the best team that season. Preseason rankings again proven to be more worthless than tits on a boar.

If that ridiculous measure is one you want to use, what has Saint Bruce done with a preseason top 10 team this season?

What are the standards at Tennessee? Lower than at Kentucky I would imagine.
If you're paying your basketball coach 2 mil and just spent a gaggle of money on facilities upgrades, your standards should be as high as anyone's.

When Donovan's resume is not significantly better in five years, we'll see who looks pathetic.

I don't care if Donovan doesn't win another game.

He's already accomplished enough for me not to harp on his shortcomings.

Sounds like the same brilliant logic that kept Phillip Fulmer employed five years past his usefulness. I certainly hope Florida's administration is that dense.

There are large numbers of coaches with lesser resumes that I would hire in a heartbeat over Donovan.

That's great. And it's a completely subjective argument. Someone who had made this argument with you 4 years ago would look like a god-d*&$ genius today. And you'd look like a chump.

Let me ask - what are you gaining by attempting to discredit a guy who has accomplished what Donovan has?

Nobody who knows basketball would have made that argument 4 years ago. Anyone who knows the ball is inflated instead of stuffed sees Donovan for what he is. He had his moment, now it's back to the perenially overhyped bin for Coach Munster.

Im not here to gain anything. I'm simply engaging in a debate. I have an opinion and I wouldn't hire Donovan.

had you been UT's AD in 2000, you think you'd have the stones to decide you were going to fire Fulmer before the end of that season?

I know you'll say yes. Don't let me down.

Then apparently people who know basketball aren't good predictors, for they all would've been completely wrong.

He said five years, so the question should be would he have the stones to fire him in 2003. And I think he would, as he was never a fan.

So you're saying Florida (with Donovan) is never going to win back-to-back national championships again? Yep, I'd agree.

As much as I love reading about Donovan, I do have a question for those who are less than fond of CBP here at UT. What would it take to change that opinion? Multiple Final Fours? A National Title? Just curious.

My opinion of him of a person is set in stone. My opinion of him as a coach will change if I ever see a team lead by him show the first bit of cohesion in the halfcourt offensively and at least a modicum of toughness in the halfcourt defensively on a consistent basis.
