Heard a strength and conditioning coach was going to be his assistant. Hopefully, they will use another committee to run the search in June.

There are former players who are presently or have been MLB scouts, scouting directors, a director of player personnel, and other folks who would have contacts and know how to run a coaching search.

Ebers is a quality coach and will be great for the program. Was there in 2011 when team went to OVC tourny and won a game for first time in school history. I would assume the strength guy you are talking about is the asst soccer coaches husband. He is former baseball coach not sure if he coached college or not but I assume that is who you are referring to. Goss knows the game I wish him the best of luck!

Good luck Coach Goss and Coach Ebers you can do it You have some good players tell them to bust their A____ for you and they will trust me, Play like a team not like an individual wish I know was the main problem last year.

I hope AD Dane will support Coach Goss and the team this year, Mr Dane I hope you have the balls and do the correct thing for the program, Back them up financially and have morals to back them up. Sir you know deep inside that you are the main problem to this situation ..

From the little I know about this situation from reading here I really believe the AD is part of the problem but not the main problem. He admitted he was powerless very publicly and is only dealing with a budget his administration have passed down. IMO the big egg is on the persons face that forced the firing of cates so late in the summer.

I Disagree, Danes Job As AD Is To Raise Funds Etc... Its Strange That A New Coach Want Have To Teach Like CateS Did. Also If Any Alumni Had Confidence In Him,, Money Could Be Raised. He Needs To Retire...

I feel so bad and sad for the present players and also the coaches at UTM, This is a disgrace if they knew they were going to fired Coach Cates why they didn't do this back in June, Somebody drop the ball and it sounds to me that somebody needs to get fired from the top, MR Dane you and your posy's need to look for another job you guys are a disgrace to UTM athletics'.

Here's some info from the AD's meeting with the players earlier this week:
--AD told players he had reservations about trying to hire a coach at this time of the year.
--Search committee: Cliff Sturdivant, Jason Sullivan, Katherine Malik, Joe Henderson
--Considered 30 qualified applicants.
--AD set minimum qualifications including HC experience and college recruiting experience
--Top 3 choices (in order) David, Corn, Delmonico
--All 3 removed their names from consideration
--Asst Brad Goss to be interim and he can apply for job after next season
--AD said better time to hire coach in Spring
--Also said, "David's situation will likely be resolved then" (interesting comment)
--All players who do what they are supposed to do on and off field will keep their scholarships for the 2014-15 season regardless of coach
--Chris Gillies will be the 2nd asst coach on the staff.

Its an damn embarrassment, the program is a laughingstock, and thats hard to stomach for someone who played there.

The Chancellor and AD are just ignorant buffoons with no business drawing paychecks from the taxpayers of the state of Tennessee.

Sir or Kid , DSCC is a high school team compare to UTM, you go to DSCC for 2 reasons one you do not have the grades ACT or you are not ready for a four year baseball program physically,Most of the players in Juco ARE 18 AND 19 YEARS OLD AND most NOT physically body compared. You are .....Lmao

AD Dane loves to kiss football HC Jason Simpson Ass, He can't do no wrong, And he forgets about his baseball team, I have never heard of the football team eating peanut butter sandwiches after a game, And sleeping four grown man in a two full size bed in a Hotel. Mr Dame you need to retired today not next year.

Big 50 is alive and doing well as a scout for the Detroit Tigers. If hired, he would be the best baseball coach in UTM history......not that that's a great compliment!

Why don't you start the drive for the Big Z.:good!:

I know that both he and Pappy were approached on some level when Prather stepped aside.

Harold's with the Tigers now as a scout and had no interest and I dont know specifically about Roger but nothing materialized so I guess he wasnt interested.

Roger Deskins (Pappy) was a prototypical leader of teams.....he is the only captain ever elected by a unanimous vote. A gutsy, gritty player who was the world's best at hit-and-run. He and Richie Craven spent hours and hours working on nothing but turning double plays.

Roger, Richie, Churchill Moore, Darrell Risberg, Martin Newby, Frankie Perez, Tim Pearcy......they were all just great teammates.

We were top 10 in DII 2 of the 3 years I was there.
