Plus I will add that no one on here really knows what is going on. We are all going by word of mouth and what we think is happening behind the scenes. No announcement has been made yet....you would think that if it was offered to Coach Corn he would have accepted on the spot for a chance to jump to DI. For all we know they are going back to Coach David and seeing if they can make it work. No one really knows unless they are the AD or on the committee. I haven't heard anyone on here say that they are reporting something directly from someone involved in the search. That includes me. I don't know...just going off what I hear and what I perceive to be going on. Only time will really tell once a decision is made. If anyone has direct knowledge please share. Other wise we are all just giving our opinions and sharing rumors we have heard.

Looks like Coach Goss gets to be interim and they see what happens. Who knows maybe the best guy was under their nose the entire time. Or they can always bring Coach Cates back....he's still around (JK). My personal opinion....I think that they are working it out with Coach David. But we'll see.

My comment was based on the reports that the AD made and offer and wanted an almost immediate answer. For any coach with a family, mortgage, and kids in school....it isn't as easy as it may appear. If it was an SEC or bigger conference team offering a 6 figure salary it's not that tough of a decision. You have the money to pay two mortgages for a few months...taking the stress off your family ect. It by no means is all about money but it sure helps when it is there. My point being it is a two way street. Yes if he wanted the job he would have found a way to make it work. But if the committee really wanted him they would have found a way to make it work as well. Maybe he would have found a way to make it work if he would have had a few days to work it out and not a few hours. Remember Dr. Rakes is the one who made the decision to do this not the AD Dane. So maybe he should step up and find a way to make it work. From what I gather Coach David turning it down was solely based on moving his family, having to find housing, and sell his house. I said it before it is a fairly easy fix to find him a rental in town while his house is on market and make the transition easier.

I agree with you but honestly he didn't want the job base on some knowledge I have. Maybe Coach Goss will step it up.

I hope not ..He already said no and kids do not forget.. To me he didn't want the job bad enough .I say give Coach Goss an Opportunity this year and then make the decision next May 2014 ,Who knows maybe Coach Goss is the right guy for the job as a leader and never had the opportunity. I think he deserves a chance only if Delmonico turn down the job, If they have discipline and Coach Goss runs the show the way most of the great programs are been run, He will do very well. Kids at this age you as a coach have to put your foot up their butts, also run the team as one and hardcore kind of like semi military with rules from the first day or they will step all over you that was lacking in the past . If they do that then they need 2 more good coaches to help Coach Goss. But I think that the best Coach for the job now is Coach Delmonico he will have all of the above trust me.

Sir with all do respect I was never strongly against Coach Delmonico, All I said was that he was going to take the job and be there for 3 or 4 years. But he is clearly the best candidate, I think he can turn the program around this year, He will win more than 26 game guarantee you this year with present players, And by the way you sound like you are an administrator or a Coach or front office for UT or UTM or UTC ,By reading all your statements on this blog u have also chance your stands on some issues is the way it is when you find more details and information out. So do not act like you are a perfect blogger because you are far from that. Sincerely a mother that cares about UTM baseball for the past 5 years. I just feel bad for all the present players they do not deserve this...

Sir I told you I find out more information about the man, And yes I wrote that before I had more information about the man, And that is my fault but at least I have the B__s of a man to admitted, but you sound like you need them. Back to the point. Why is it ok for rod d to change his mind about wanting the job, you change your mind multiple times about who you want, but not ok for coach david to change his mind???

Corn turned down the job, informed his C St players before practice today. Not a rumor, my son is on the team. Corn is a quirky fellow but one hellava good coach. Organized and keeps tabs on the kids with plenty of structure. A good man that certainly will get more opportunities in the future. Hate to see what appears to be a circus with the selection process, hope Martin gets a good one and gets the ship righted.

I think Rachel11 might have been offered a position on staff from Delmonico the way she changed her tune. Trust me, if Delmonico took the job he would be trying to walk out the door the first day he walked in. The comments about his ego and arrogance are pretty accurate from what I hear. There must be alot of baggage with him if he has not been able to get a job since 2007 when he was let go after taking a team to the College World Series and being one of the all time winningest coaches in the SEC.

On further review, I think they need to hire Rachel11 and let her get after it!

This is an absolute mess. The problem with all of this is that if you are going to let a coach go on July 29 you better have some names you want to offer the job to. When someone not in the athletic department is in charge that is why you have this circus. The chancellor decided to open this up and pass on interviewing some quality candidates that would have been a good fit for the program. I have friends who played for Rod D and they couldn't stand it. Is it not a red flag to everyone that this guy cannot get a job? Tried to get Middle job a few years back and other jobs. He WAS a prime time coach back in his day but no one else will touch him now. He won't stay at UTM if he gets hired two years tops plus will not fit in with anybody in Martin TN. I am someone who cares about the program at UTM and wish they would have looked for best fit. That program can be successful I know from experience.

Thank you Sir I wish I was a man and probably would have had the job, why because I take all you man together and you can make one, Why because all you guy's do is talk garbage instead of attacking the UTM system of hiring the coach and the way this circus has been run, At least I have the guts to even let them know in person like I did, But I do not know none of you I didn't see any of you at the forums (Zero) none of you were there. .So I suggest you crow back to the hole you came out of.

Poor Rachel will have to flip back to anti rod if one of those demands involves assistant coaches and their dismissal.

Its an embarrassment, from the timing of Cates' reassignment to the public way the AD differed to the resulting diminished candidate pool. The Chancellor Rakes is a stumbling buffoon and the AD has been an acknowledged clown since Hollis retired.

Its a joke.

Would seem like they'd interim Goss for the coming year.

Who knows what these geniuses will do next?

My guess is they made insulting offers to the 3 candidates, no wonder they declined.


Honestly, is there anyone over there in Admin with any sense at all?

Open forums, an AD with no power, and allowing 2 candidates back into the mix that clearly had no real desire for the job and this is what you get.

Well deserved egg on the face
