UT or UNC for the Last #1 Seed

Here’s how I’m feeling it.
The ACC vs SEC is not even close. Duke and NC will have to meet up again. NC can win the ACC but if they don’t play Duke those other games won’t matter IMO. Might as well be the NIT.
TN has opportunities ( first w/ AU or SC) and even KY or AL.
I think we need to obviously pull for TN to go as far as possible but pull for Duke and NC to not meet up

If TN wins the SEC Tourney and NC loses in the ACC Tourney, that could tip the scales in TN's favor for a 1 seed.
NC needs to tip the scales in their favor. We’re ahead right now. UNC needs to win the ACC and hope we lose before the Final. There’s a chance a win Friday is enough for us to clinch but I’d rather win 2 and lock it up.

Two other things that can be difference makers:

We must hit the defensive boards and limit second chances, which have killed us.
We have to finish better around the rim - way too many missed layups and blocked shots
I thought we rebounded well against everyone sans KY down the stretch, but I could be wrong. Regardless, you are correct. We ended the season getting our butts kicked inside from rebounds to finishing around the rim. Dang 6 things to correct!

Both Alabama and USC outrebounded us but only slightly. As Sami said, the concerning part is giving up the offensive boards. SC had 15 second chance points and Auburn had 13. Although we won both of those games, that kept them hanging around and could cost us a tight game in either tourney.

Bauertology has also been a Top 10 bracketologist the past few years and he now has UNC as a 1-seed as well. We’re trending in the wrong direction, unfortunately.

So of the the Top 10, 8 have Tennessee as a 1, am I missing something?

As the day has progressed the average seed spread between UT/UNC on bracket matrix has tightened from .70 to .12. More troubling is some of the best prognosticators, such as 131, have UNC getting the 1. Hate to see it. Really want that one seed in the West.
8 of the Top 10 have Tennessee as a 1 from what I just looked at

The human factor...or should I say bias?

I fully expect UNC to end up with the 1 seed unless they lose in the ACC tournament. The ACC in basketball is like the SEC in football - a team has to be there.

Fair. I haven’t looked at all of the Top 10. I probably should have. I only follow a handful of them on Twitter and just post what I see there, but you are right looks like more of the other top flight predictors still have us holding.

I was roasted because I dared to insinuate that the SecT had any effect on seeding.

You probably shouldn't have been roasted but past evidence for us showed it didn't. So the problem is we never know year to year whether it will or not. So the answer is nobody knows until after the fact and they tell us if it did or not.

Also the person you quoted said "could" tip the scales, not it would. So you still might not be right.

I'm not bothered by the top ten. I am bothered by the tightening of the spread. I feel really uncomfortable with the fact that the narrative is that tournaments don't count, while feeling like these predictions will absolutely change based on tournament play.

Yea I’m of the opinion we probably need to win 2 to have a chance, assuming that UNC does at least the same, that changes obviously if they drop out early. Again assuming UNC wins at least 2 I think we need to win our first 2 to have a chance, at that point Saturday is over with and the field will largely be set at that point based on those results.

I think this is how things play out. Vols win 2 there's a really good chance of holding the 1 seed. Vols don't win Friday and Saturday better hope UNC drops their first game.

We beat Bama but they finished ahead of us. So, that means UNC beat us and well get the #1 seed. #Logic

Used to be. The ACC isn’t a very good basketball conference currently. 4th at best.

2 in the East with UConn

I could see this. The committee usually has their seeds set after Saturday’s conf championship games, and SEC finishes on Sunday.

UConn would be a tough out which is why I’m hopeful for a one seed in the west vs Zona.

2 in the East with UConn

Not that he's the final word, but I doubt winning the SECT would be enough to get the 1 seed. The decision will certainly be made before Sunday anyway. Barnes should cut the starters minutes and let the reserves get the lions share of minutes in the SECT. If we go home Friday, so be it. Rest up and get ready for the NCAAs. What a kick to the nads it would be to bust our humps chasing the SECT title and end up the 2 seed anyway only to be gassed and make an early exit from the NCAA tournament. Nah. Don't let the committee screw us twice.
