Utah State feeling confident

If we get the ball first, we have to score. That will keep the crowd hype through USU's first series likely causing a 3 and out, and a chance to go up 14-0 for the Vols. Call Utah State DONE if this happens.

However, if USU gets the ball first and we don't stop them..crowd is gone, USU is confident, we're not...not good.

Best case scenario: Kickoff to them. Smack them in the mouth so hard on the first play and cause a fumble. Run it in from the 20. Go up 7-0 and watch fireworks all night and the crowd will roar.

Article on Utah State's mindset going into the big game. I don't think they know what they're in for

Utah State football confident heading into big game at Tennessee | KSL.com

Guys, I hear on the radio talk about Chuckie being a good q.b. As if we should be shaking in our shoes.
That brings to mind three other games we played in the history of Tennessee football.

(1) Ar Kansas came to Neyland and according to all the media outlets in the nation, Darren McFadden will get 200 yards against U.T. DID NOT HAPPEN!!!!

(2) Florida came to Neyland and they had a defensive player who was going to wreak havic on us. Jevon Kearse! DID NOT HAPPEN!!

(3) We went down to play "The Barn" and a player named "Bo" was supposed to have a career day against us. DID NOT HAPPEN

I just don't think Chuckie can throw well when he is running for his life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Agreed. Besides, we've been losing at home alot lately - not quite so intimidating. The last team I saw that seemed overwhelmed by the first time Neyland experience was Cal in 2006.

When have the Vols lost to a Utah State type of school at Home??? Wyoming? Happened with lame duck coach, will not happen on Sunday! Anybody remember Western Kensucky, or NC St? Lots of angst for nothing, the Vols don't lose home openers to opponents like Utah St. GOVOLS!!!

Once U.S.U. leaves Neyland Stadium next Sunday, Chuckie will no longer be a dark horse Heisman candidate.

Didin't say we would lose. But Akron and Troy didn't seem to be intimidated a couple of years ago and I don't expect USU to be either.

All I read was a veteran team confident in themselves and their Coach's. If someone isn't confident then they don't need to be playing football. It was nothing disrespectful and actually they were very respectful of the team and our tradition. Definitely a dangerous team to open with but much prefer this kind of game than a UTMartin or someone like that. Their QB will definitely help us to prepare for Oklahoma and hopefully help build confidence..Can't wait until next Sunday!

I agree, nothing disrespectful here, just a bunch of kids who say they have confidence in their coaches and that they feel like they're prepared for the Neyland experience. Would we want any less of an opponent?

Not really a veteran team outside of about 6 players. Same as UT.

im not saying they're the greatest team ever but lately weve been having trouble beating average teams and they're at least an average team in my books. Like i said, I expect us to win by a couple tds but I also dont see a reason for them to be intimidated by playing the once mighty Vols. We've been very beatable lately if you haven't noticed.

Our past teams do not play on 8/31/14.

Team 118 has no history of struggling to beat average teams. :shades:

Having been at, or very near, the top of both stadiums I can tell you unequivocally that the top of Neyland is significantly higher and much steeper than LP Field. Not even close IMO.

You need to get better seats! :)

This just in.

Players and fans think their team is going to win. Shocking, I tell you.

Although it sits at 4500 foot altitude, Logan Utah has an average daily high in August of 87 degrees. I guess the heat might not be that big a problem for them. I'm hoping that we can come up with 38 other problems for them though!:birgits_giggle:

They have played in loud stadiums before, but Neyland will be loud in the 2,3 and 4 qtr, unless we are blowing them out. They have definitely played in some big stadiums but not like this. I think we are a well conditioned young SEC caliber team now, would not have said that 2.3.4 years ago but with the off season work -one year in the system- talent and speed we have I look for us to hand them their heads. I do hope Keeton stays healthy as we just had a knack last year of knocking people out with injuries...

i like USU's team, they are a good first opponent, not like Citadel or Austin Peay. They are a good football team.

I feel like UT is clearly the better team and I want to do what a lot of other fellow members said and bet heavy on our Vols. It's a little concerning tho looking at many of the "experts" picks and pretty much all of them so far are saying take the Aggies and are saying they feel the Aggies won't just cover the spread, but will win outright. All I know is they better be wrong GBO!

Im sure you didn't expect them to say, were scared and will hopefully get out of Neyland without injuries

1) 2007 SEC East champs
2) 1998 SEC and National Champs
3) 1985 SEC Champs

It helps if we are good

Chuckie's offense had 10 three and outs for 12 drives the other day against USU 2nd team D.

I Certainly don't expect him to do any better against our first team D.

Dark horse? He may just end up like the headless horseman...looking for his head!
