Utah State feeling confident

Let's see.... Out lines our young, our QB IS unproven in games, we have LB issues.... Yeah I feel great about it.

USU:

Least amount of returners in the country. 65% of their roster has never taken a snap in Division 1

5 of 13 DL have ever played a snap in D-1
4 of 5 new O Line
QB 10 months out on a torn ACL/MCL
Same with starting RB
Paper thin at TE, Lost both TEs from 2013
Lost top two returning WRs
They have some receivers but Swindall is a red zone type. Disappears alot between the 20s. Natson catches everything near the LOS. Averages about 5 yard per catch
Lost the entire secondary.
MLB gone
Nose guard gone.
RB situation looks extremely suspect.

Say what you want about our defense but id be willing to bet this is a game where we get pressure all day. Sure chuckie is great but you got a QB that is recovering from injury and hasnt been tested. Not to mention he has a new, smaller, O Line protecting him. Sure we have questions but dont act like they dont have a ton themselves. It wont be very loud when our O Line is on the field either.

moral of the story is UT is not the only team with the youth and inexperience here. Actually UT has more players on roster who have started atleast 10 games in their career. They are just as new as we are.

yes they have been in loud stadiums. Auburn in 2011. How many still remain on that the team? Then you have Wisconsin which is a great place. USC last yr was about 60% full bc they had just lost to Washington State.

Ok, so they say they've played in big stadiums before so Neyland won't be any different. They mentioned Auburn and Wisconsin. Auburn seating capacity 87,000. Wisconsin 82,000. Neyland 102,455. And their crowds aren't as loud either.

How much is my mother-in-law paying you to fart in this elevator? This one's going up, boca boy

I also said we'll win by 17. All I simply said is it will help if UT scores 1st. If USU scores first and the crowd is sitting on their hands it will make the job more difficult.

Others have said the same thing in this thread.

Keaton and their starting RB did not play in the scrimmage.

i mean, if our 2nd and 3rd teams arent great what do you think the 2s and 3s look like at a Mid Major? Shouldnt matter who is playing in a scrimmage. Thats a pretty bad percentage.

Daniel gray would be third team or worse even on our defense. Martinez wasnt impressed at all. He is a starter there getting pushed by a freshman.

All you who think they're going to wet all over themselves because of Neyland and/or are affected by the weather are delusional. They played at Auburn just 2 years ago in the season opener and many of those players are still there. We will win imo, but I don't buy this intimidation bs.

The first few minutes will be intimidating but thats about it.. they will settle in and get tunnel vision on the field and forget about the stadium... the freshman may have to take a few more minutes to settle in with it being a new experience. :good!:

Their confidence is TOTALLY misguided. They are a 9 win team AT BEST in a WEAK conference.

Don't get me wrong. I think it will probably be tight... Chuckie Keeton and Joe Hill are both pretty good, but they are getting little league syndrome for sure...

By that I mean everyone around them is telling them how great they are and they are going to get deflated... QUICKLY. They are a "dark horse playoff contender"... Chuckie Keeton is a "dark horse Heisman candidate"...

The places that have been putting that out are all local press that aren't even bold enough in their predictions to drop the "dark horse" qualifier.

I think UT is still a year away from being back to where they were when I feel in love with the orange and white as a kid, but I think they walk out of this one with a good win.

UT: 31 USU: 13

Those same people were calling Keeton a Heisman candidate last year when he started of 2-2 in a weak conference. I mean...

I think they may be able to slow our run game down but by doing that it should open up our studs at receiver and Tight end.
My only real concern is can we keep Keeton from getting to the edge and hurting us.

Keeton makes his bank on defensive edges that lose contain, and secondaries that pull out of coverage to try to tackle him while he scrambles at the edge, before crossing the line.

If UT uses its speed to contain the edge, and their secondary stays with their assignments, Keeton will be shut down.

Which team is "our" team?

Both Vols and USU have re-tooled OL's.
Our QB is a senior who was 4-2 as a starter last year, beating SC and passing for a higher % than GA's Murray.
AJ, JRM and Maggitt want to know what LB issues you refer to? :shades:

Watch the first half of the UT/USCe game from last year.

You'll be playing on a long weekend, the first game of a very hopeful season, with a crowd anxious to see and cheer. I imagine USCe is more used to big stages, and their entire first half was frustrated by the crowd/noise.

BTW... We've upgraded talent at almost every position. See you guys in a week.

(Oh, and in case you didn't notice, USCe, you are not.)

And this is the point that I have been trying to make. They can't be in good shape with a bunch of brand new 2 star players taking the field. People think we will struggle with youth....and we will....but that pales in comparison to U States issues. At least our new guys are fast AND talented.

Yep. I watched that game again the other day and forgot how much the crowd affected them. Shaw couldn't get his plays communicated at all an got so many delay of games.

Our past teams do not play on 8/31/14.

Team 118 has no history of struggling to beat average teams. :shades:

Ok then...Team 118 has done nothing to intimidate another team.

I hope after this game, Arkansas st is shaking in their shoes.

This should be the best opening game atmosphere in Neyland since Cal '06.

Agree - Crowd was amped before the first play, then their kickoff return guy got popped hard & our whole team went off! Set the tone for the whole game.
