I think it is plausible. The Fauci emails from January and February 2020 seem to indicate panic and concern about a possible lab leak. It's no need in this instance to go too far down the rabbit hole. The Chinese wouldn't purposefully release a virus like this in their own backyard and risk killing themselves. Even the CCP leadership believes in self-preservation. Now what I DO believe is that they surely did get involved in gain-of-function research.

All good, but I'd leave the poll data off of efforts to make a cogent argument. Remember, there were polls where 50% of Democrats believed contracting the virus meant hospitalization.
