Trying to compare operating on an unvaxxed patient to being exposed to bodily fluids is just silly and weak.

Breaking news: The vaccine doesn't prevent you from transmitting the virus to others.

This mentality is insane and dangerous. Basically, in your view, unvaccinated people are unclean and a danger to society. I guess probably in your mind all vaccinated people should be wearing the nazi star. You are ignoring the fact that fully vaccinated people are catching covid and it doesn't appear like it provides the protection we were all guaranteed.

But it doesn’t prevent passing it to others so using the vaccine to say that health care workers should be made to get it for that reason wouldn’t work .

Lol. Hospitals have dedicated OR suites set up for Covid patients. Guess what, surgery is done quite routinely on HIV patients. Not that big of a deal. Universal precautions are used.

If you are vaccinated against something transmittable through the air, and get exposed to the blood of someone who has it, is that considered a greater risk than breathing the same air?

My thought is that blood exposure always carries a greater risk. Always in a generic sense, not an absolute, because I am sure there are some diseases not transmittable by blood at all.

They take all the precautions possible. So, I'm not surprised they consider a prevaxxed donor a precaution.

I've said it before, they're a private hospital. They can make any reasonable requirements they want for admission and treatment.

Surprised by your take. You tend toward libertarian I believe, particularly on business issues. So does this mean that you believe Cleveland Clinic should be forced to do the transplant even though they are a private hospital? Otherwise their ball, their rules.

I'm sure you're not saying that surgeons and their teams never get nicked during a procedure, even when they're operating on an HIV positive patient. So always a big deal.

Not on the primary market. Maybe on the black market. Cause of death is heavily scrutinized in determining suitability of organs for transplant, at least according to my neighbor, the nephrologist. But he's on his 2nd trophy wife, 3rd in all, so what does he know.

We did have brain death on a 34 year old unvaccinated pt and they accepted her. Negative covid. That’s Virginia organ donation. Each organ donation center has to agree on what they are going to take or not take to streamline the process.
They will still do the same testing, procedural checks and care parameters for anyone they accept until they run into a factor that could rule them out for certain recipients.

Not a Doc but have worked with transplant procedures for 15 years and cared for heart transplants.
We transplant HIV AND HEP + like donors into like recipients for certain organs. The surgical procedure is the same for all. The order of explantation depends on what organs are being taken.
