So the fact they started a WR at QB mean nothing? Don't get me wrong I get what you are saying about losing to teams like Akron and LA Tech but there is no denying that Kentucky game was when we hit rock bottom.....hopefully.

It does mean nothing actually. Our offense scored 7 points.... against KY. Kentucky could have started Oprah at QB, it wouldn't have mattered.

If your offense can't score more than 7 points against KY, you simply don't deserve to win.

So a WR playing QB that completed 4 passes that game does not make that loss even more embarassing??

Our team's known starters:

Offense: 4
Lane
North
Von
Malone

Defense: 4
Randolph
AJ
Maggit
sutton

Total: 8/22
*counting kicker and punter it is 8/24

That means going into the season there are 16 spots, or 66% of the total spots, are question marks. 6 games would be a good season; 5 meeting expectations; 4 underperforming.

Games I see us winning:
Utah St
Arky St
UTC
Vandy
Kentucky
One of FL/OM/Mizzou (Or None)

IMO as a casual fan
Additional known starters:

Offense:
Marcus Jackson
Kyler Kerbyson
Mack Croweder
Coleman Thomas

Defense:
Vereen

Fair enough.

Although I'm not sure at what position these guys will play on the offensive line, I do believe those four will be starting somewhere. Vereen, I wouldn't be so sure about starting.

Either way, the point I was trying to make should still be apparent.

For those that continue to insist we under achieved last season. And for those that insist our oline will be improved. It's not a reflection of what Vegas thinks about butch but what they think about our material.
Even though there are six or seven winnable games, every game on our schedule with the exception of chattanooga is losable. It will be a miracle if our program can somehow manage to avoid an embarrassing loss during this slide. I'm going to say 6-6 but I would not bet on it. Utah state and Arkansas state are dangerous foes and Vegas knows this. Butch will start getting judged next season. Dooley signed to many Christian Harris and Cody blancs.:salute:

What slide are you talking about? We were young in 2011, we were vastly outcoached in 2012, CBJ picking up the pieces in 2013 and rolling into 2014 with a ton of quality recruits and renewed enthusiasm. Slide my azz. This is his climbing year. The bleeding has stopped. We will be young but I'll take this young talent over the young talent we had in 2011 any day of the week. 6 wins my friend, six wins. And add a bowl game.

The Ky game was also the I don't want to go to a bowl conspiracy game. Issue between Bray and Seniors

It was also the alleged "Da'Rick sat on the bench and said he was done trying to play and said 'I hope we do lose, and I hope they fire him' (referring to Dooley)" conspiracy as well.

The Dooley era was just a mess. On the one hand you almost feel sorry for Dooley. He really did have some terrible attitudes on his team. On the other hand, I don't think a coach like Butch would allow players to back talk him or show him the disrespect that was shown to Dooley. A real coach knows how to keep that sort of thing in line. But then again what's Dooley supposed to do in that situation? Bench Da'Rick? Bench Tyler Bray? That's an even quicker ticket to losing your job than having a bad record.

Just a lose-lose all around, but just like 90% of problems in organized sports, these are all problems that can be solved by winning.

And Vegas is never wrong. Oh, wait...

Vegas has a view at 30,000 feet early on. They will adjust as they see the product.

And we have a QB, who had he played against UF and Vandy most likely would have produced 2 more wins like he did against USCe and nearly did against UGA. C'mon people. Worley has taken another step forward, Dobbs will be significantly improved and Ferguson will get his shot in camp. The receivers are dramatically improved as well as RB, which will now be able to run between the tackles due to quicker O-lineman that have experience that few appear to a want to acknowledge. With Maggit, Vereen, Sutton, Randolph, and AJ along with the huge influx of talent on defense there will be enough stops to pull our a couple more wins than last season.

fwiw, the weather in that stadium that day lent itself to a run-heavy attack...high winds that swirled all day

Weather History: Past Weather Reports

Weather smether. We lost that game because of heart, or should i say, lack of heart. From our coaches and some of our players. That's the first time I've ever seen us lose to Ky since I've been alive.

Lack of heart and lack of coaching. That's why we lost to a WR playing QB and it's the same reason that Vanderbilt now thinks they are better than us (I cant even type that second part with a straight face).

Butch is righting the ship. I have a lot of faith, our defense is what scares me though. Lucky we have a huge influx of talent over the next few months.

I wasn't trying to take away from your point, just to point out that we pretty much know what our team will look like at DE and OL.

As for Vereen, week one we play a spread team with a mobile QB; he'll be starting. He and Maggit will likely be our ends in the nickel at least for the first part of the season and we'll be playing out of the nickel a lot against our first 3 opponents.

Not that that means a whole lot for our front 4. The coaches wanna be able to rotate two teams in and out, so really the two deep is more important as far as the number of snaps go. For example, last year Smith, Miller, and Walls all got a lot of reps at DE.

As I see it, our only real questions as far as depth goes are as follows:

1. Does Gilliam hold off Blair at LT.

2. What does our two deep at DT look like? We know Saulsberry, Owen Williams and Danny O'brien will see their fair share of snaps, but who else? Jordan Williams moving could be big for us in nickel situations. Does a freshman such as Dimarya Mixon, Derek Barnett, Michael Sawyers, Charles Mosley, or Jashon Robertson crack the two deep?

3. Do Kelly/Bates beat out McNeil/JRM and if so, how soon?

4. Does Emmanuel Mosley keep his spot opposite Cam Sutton, or does a newcomer such as Berry/Gaulden step up and take his spot.

5. How many snaps does Downs see if he bounces back 100%? Helm and Wolf have been obvious upgrades so far.

6. Does Worley hold off Dobbs/Ferguson?

Other than those things, we pretty much know what our depth chart will look like.

QB: probably Worley/Ferguson or Dobbs
RB: Lane/Hurd/Scott or Young or Pickett
WR: North/Croom
WR: Malone/Smith (maybe? If Malone goes down, Croom probably gets the snaps, but we'll rotate them in and out a lot anyway)
Slot: Pearson/Pig (hopefully)/Jenkins or Johnson
TE: Wolf/Helm/Downs/Ellis
RT: Thomas/Kendrick
RG: Kerbyson/Wiesman
C: Crowder/Wiesman
LG: Jackson/Wiesman (he's our 4th man on the interior)
LT: Blair or Gilliam

Nickel D (which we'll be in ~60% of the time)

DE: Maggit/who the hell knows with the influx of talent (could be L Lewis, J Johnson, J Miller, Hendrix, Barnett, J Henderson Vickers)
DE: Vereen/ditto
DT: Saulsberry/O Williams
DT: O'brien/J Williams (newcomer could break the rotation at either DT spot but won't likely start)

LB: AJ/Bynum or Bryant (probably Bynum for the first part of the season at least)
LB: JRM or Bates/Creamer

CB: Sutton/Jones
CB Moseley or Berry/Foreman
Nickel: Coleman/Payne or Gaulden

S: Randolph/ McDowell or L Johnson
S: McNeil or Kelly/Swafford

Most of our depth chart questions have to do more with depth than starters at this point

If I am in Vegas this summer, I am going a grand on the over. I realistically see 5-7 or 6-6, but that is still over.

J Williams is a starter as is Saulsberry if he returns from his injury as projected. Coleman is a starter at either NB or CB. McNeil is a returning starter and in spite of all the chatter... he's a starter until someone takes it away from him.

The only "unknowns" on O as far as starters right now are TE and LT. I know Jones wants to keep the competition high and people just love to speculate about the QB position. However except for when he was injured and Jones' very brief flirtation with Peterman, Worley has been the starter since Bray left. It is very doubtful that changes unless he is completely ineffective once games start or else he gets hurt.

That means going into the season there are 16 spots, or 66% of the total spots, are question marks. 6 games would be a good season; 5 meeting expectations; 4 underperforming.
Six to 8 wins is the reasonable range for this team against this schedule if Jones is a coach capable of coaching UT to championships. Five would mean a second straight year of underachieving AND losing to at least one team with less talent. Four wins will and very much should put Jones on a very hot seat with a one year "prove it" probation period.

Games I see us winning:
Utah St
Arky St
UTC
Vandy
Kentucky
One of FL/OM/Mizzou (Or None)
Talent wise barring major injuries, UT should beat Mizzou. If UT loses that game without having suffered critical injuries then it will mean that Pinkel outcoached Jones badly- not a good sign.

I'm not sure it was "Vegas" that put that out. The only real odds out in Vegas is for the national title champion. UT is 100/1. Vandy and Utah State are 500/1.
