I would have to take the over. I think we end up 7-5. Barring any injuries at key positions. Worst case 5-7. Best case 8-4.

Wins -
Utah St.
Ark St.
Chattanooga
@ Ole Miss
Ky
Mizzou
@ Vandy

Losses
@ OK
@ Ga
Fla
Ala
@ SC

Over.....LARGE!

As our Spanish brethern say it.....Lar-Hey!

Living where I do, I always laugh when I hear people say "Oh I would take "insert team" all day with that spread" but they never do. It's a whole lot easier to bet on something when no real money is at stake.

Vegas odds makers are very rarely off by much. Granted you have things like Auburn last year but on a week to week basis they're pretty solid.

I will take the over on this but not without a little doubt. I think we win games 1 and 2, Kentucky and Chattanooga with Vandy being a toss up. I definitly won't put more than $100 on this but I will put $50 on a long shot to win the national championship ya never know what can happen.

So if anyone really feels this is a gurantee win, empty your account and throw down some coin on the Big Orange winning 5 games

Ole Miss really?? They have better players than us pretty much everywhere but LB and WR and their WR's are still good. Remember the Mizzou game last year, yea that's not gurantee either.

I would be very surprised if this team and revered incoming class surrendered 8 losses. Would be a first for UT.

I know that we have had several rough years in a row and been down as a whole for almost a decade. I know that we lost all of our offensive and defensive line starters. I know that our schedule looks like something out of a horror movie. I know that our team is going to be largely young and unproven and we will play a lot of freshman...

However, I just can't believe that people would actually bet against The University of Tennessee winning more than 4 games. I really really hope we prove everyone wrong this year, I mean we are still Tennessee.

Yes I think we beat Ole Miss. We catch them in the middle of a tough 5 game stretch for them.

Ala
@ A&M
UT
@LSU
Auburn

We play Chattanooga the week before.

I think they overlook us and we squeak one out.

I think we beat Mizzou only because it's at Neyland.

Oh don't get me wrong, I hate betting against Tennessee and I rarely bet any of their games. I'm actually going try something this year and see if I can win some decent change each week. Right now the Vols just aren't solid enough for me to be betting on each week,

Last year was largely a legacy class. There was a built in advantage and if you listen to what the coaches say, they were helped by those kids recruiting others. That was a unique situation. There is no such advantage this year and there won't be moving forward. You never see guys sign top classes after multiple losing seasons. There is no reason to suspect that will be the case here either.

Going 5-7 and playing every game down to the wire, including Alabama and Oklahoma, will go a long way. Being able to tell a blue chip, "we were 1 playmaker away, and that playmaker is you," can help

I think the game behind the losses this year is just as important, if not more, than the wins.

If we go 6-6 but get absolutely blown out in most of our 6 losses... no bueno.

If we go 5-7 but win 5 convincingly and lose 7 in very close fashion... I think that would be better leverage for coaches in the way you iterated.

We have to prove we're close to competing. That's why the win-loss doesn't mean much to me this year... it's how we got to each win and loss that matters.

4.5 will be our average margin of victory. We are a 6-8 win team even with the schedule.

UtST, ArkST, Chat, Vandy, KY, Mizzou are wins, not easy but wins. We match up well against the two best in SEC East: GA & USCe. Same for OLe Miss.

FL is tough but some players aren't the same coming back from injury. We break the curse and eek out a tough win.

Between GA, FL, USCe & Ole Miss, we take 1-3 games, probably just one because three are road games.

Bama and OK are tough ones that we aren't supposed to win but don't tell the players that, they are ready to upset. OK is a bit of a question mark. QB has one good game out of 5 (bama Sugar Bowl), and they played down to WV and TCU? last year.

We will be the Auburn 2013 Cinderella type surprise for 2014!

Considering replacing, all the lineman on both sides of the ball, no 2nd team depth at all, an extremely hard schedule in the top conference there is and a road trip to what could be #1 Oklahoma in Sept, only 12 Srs on the roster... That's probably about right

You think they will win 4.5 games? Ima keep my eye on you, negrodamus.

It is absolutely 100% reasonable for you to take me saying "the lines will move" to mean I think I am smarter than a "vegas-pro"

The lines might move, but not for the reasons you provided. Vegas moves the lines to get more action. Good conversation though. :)

The smart money is vegas must have missed those powerful offensive and defensive lines who will rumble out onto the field for the Vols! boom?

So the fact they started a WR at QB mean nothing? Don't get me wrong I get what you are saying about losing to teams like Akron and LA Tech but there is no denying that Kentucky game was when we hit rock bottom.....hopefully.

Auburn started a cornerback at quarterback last year....just saying

Yeah all those kids submitted to peer pressure from other committed kids. Get real. Those kids could have gone anywhere they wanted at the end of the day. I swear I think you simply pray for failure just to have something to complain about....more like cry about.

It will be real damn funny when Butch signs another top 10 class.....doesn't matter what you believe or believe in.....it only matters that these recruits believe in Tennessee Football and being part of building something special.

Wow, nice constructive post there.

Hmmm...insist that the improbable is probable and insult anyone who uses logic and disagrees...where have we seen that tactic before? Seems oddly familiar.

That's not what he said. He made a rational point. You answered with an attempt to turn it into a personal argument.

Those who committed to UT early did in fact recruit for UT. That was a vital component to UT's class and will be going forward.

We will see if he can do it and the second part is true. But that second part will likely work against what you apparently want to believe if the promises of "being part of building something special" don't turn into more than 5 wins again in '14.

Players want to play for coaches that win. It will be much too easy to paint Jones as a blowhard that can't actually win football games if he has another losing season this fall. You and I may not like it. It might not even be "fair"... but negative recruiters don't care about "fair". They care about signing the best players and keeping them from the competition.
