Virginia isn't as bad as people think

Offense is going to be really bad but will find success in the 1st half until the defense settles.
The defense will give Tenn and especially Ollie Lane a challenge, but I am with the guys at Volquest; Tenn needs a challenge before heading to the Swamp.
Tenn jumps out to a fast start, after starting off with a punt, to score 17 on their next 3 drives. Virginia D settles and Tenn heads into the 2nd half not having finished the half consistently but still scoring points - 24-10.
After another slow start and Virginia inching closer (27-17) Tenn gets into sync and simply wears Virginia out. Finishes 44-20 or whatever (which isn't what I predicted on the pick em ha).

We just need to stay focused and play our game. If we come out ready to play football we will be fine. One game at a time, you have to be ready every week. We need to come out strong and take the fight to them right out of the box! GBO!

Yes, we should win comfortably, but I think we're all kind of sitting on the idea that this will be an easy blow out, like an Austin Peay type game, and that's not going to be the case. A few things to note:

-On paper they won 3 games last year, but they were likely going to win the last 2 that were cancelled, so they are a 5-7 team basically.

-They lost to UNC by 3, and lost to Miami in OT.

-Those two facts put together mean they were a few breaks away from having a winning record last year.

-A theory proven by Heupel (as well as Saban, and Kirby), the biggest jump is typically made between year 1 and year 2.

Again, it should be a comfortable win, but this isn't an FCS school and they aren't going to play like one. We should all have a fun, nervous excitement for this one.

And surely we learned from South Carolina last year to never underestimate anyone. No matter how piss poor they have been leading up to our game.
Well, we put 66 on a pretty good Missouri D; not to mention there QB transferred in from Monmouth. Not too scared of Monmouth QB's.

They’re worse

We’re pretty bad…the offense was offensive. From that offense, we lost our best 3 receivers and QB (who was 4th in passing yards in the country the year before). Des Kitchings (New OC) is a football terrorist, but I digress.

From our improved but mediocre defense last year, we lost BY FAR our best 2 players in Nick Jackson and Fentrell Cypress.

We are starting a Monmouth transfer at QB. Our OL is terrible.

We have one good unit on this team (DT’s).

We are the third worst team on your schedule behind AP and UCONN.

According to 247's roster composite, UVA was the 62nd most talented team in the country. Vandy... was 60th. The teams they beat were FCS Richmond, ODU (the 111th most talented team), and GT who was 30th.

You note their close losses. They were a TD away from being beaten by GT a 5-7 team and only beat ODU by 2 points... a 3-9 team.

They're not a good team and UT should dominate them. There is little if anything to suggest their roster got better.
They did bring in 7 new transfers to come in and start.

That should make some difference, but our tempo and fast skill position guys are going to make that difference non-existent.

Give your team some credit and include vandy in there too. Have some pride.

The most difficult opponent is the one we play next...our players and coaches must be ready to play. We might sleepwalk and still pull out a win against lesser opponents, but I hate those kinds of games. So far Heupel has had our guys pumped and ready so I don't anticipate us coming out flat.
Teams seldom "sleep walk" through the opener. Guys are ready to hit somebody in a different color jersey coming out of camp. Now they can be "rusty" or "execute poorly", but motivation will not be a problem for either team! GBO

Sports Illustrated thinks they are the worst team in the ACC.
Sporting News has them last in the ACC.
Fox Sports ranks them, wait for it.... LAST in the ACC.

The biggest thing I'm worried about Saturday is we'll be beating them so badly my buddies insist I change the channel to a competitive game. Go Vols!
Then are they really your buddies?

Just from what I’ve been able to gather their portal guys may not be as good as the guys they replace.

This shouldn’t be close. Football can be a funny game but the Vols should roll
