Yup. I went to sleep; it was just news of a self-imposed suspension. I woke up today ( and on Volnation) it's now Vitello is receiving a lifetime ban on coaching, Ahuna will never play a game in a TN uniform, reduction in 15 scholarships, all stadium expansions stopped, and might have last year's SEC titles stripped.

I see they've moved the game time back today. Is this because we're considering just disbanding the program in light of all these new developments?

In my best daydreams, this matter prompts the University of Tennessee to sue the ncaa, gets an temporary injunction to allow Maui to play, then makes a case for disbanding the ncaa as an incompetent arbiter of rules and punishment, and for using the power to investigate forever as a form of abusive punishment and non-equal protection from punishment, and wins. With the ncaa disbanded, the SEC then develops and adopts it's own rules and it's rules for investigation timeliness.

Y’all can cry and whine all you want, but if you do things the right way then you won’t have to worry about the NCAA messing with Tennessee. This only makes things worse for every sport at Tennessee when stuff continues to happen. This is his third suspension so it appears CTV has a problem with following the rules and it will hurt the school in the long run. He needs to get his act together before something major happens.

"Doing things the right way" implies that he's out there intentionally doing things the wrong way. I don't buy that. Not today. Not yesterday. Not tomorrow. His prior suspensions were not NCAA recruiting/ infraction related.. .but surely you know that.

I'm fine with that if the ncaa also does things the right way. Is it right to not allow Ahuna to play for Tony violating a rule? Shouldn't he be allowed to play until and unless the ncaa comes to any conclusions about the matter? And shouldn't the ncaa have some resposibility for conducting an investigation in a timely manner. It's been more than 6 months that the ncaa has been "investigating" this issue. Time to wrap it up and move on. And we should be able to take this matter to an independent jury and argue our case, but there is no such provision in the ncaa's rules.

Absolutely not fair to Ahuna, and runs counter to what they say about "not imposing unfair penalties against the player." His coach left, he was transferring out, he spoke with TV prior to "officially" being able to. It's such a ridiculous rule. It's like when your mom baked cookies as a kid, but you couldn't eat them yet. They were sitting there on the counter. EVERYONE in the house knew those damn cookies were going to get eaten BUT the rule was you couldn't eat them until mom said you could. Every kid in America has snagged a cookie and the punishment was a stern yelling.

How is it that none of this ever happens to UGA, Bama, UF, LSU, etc.? It appears some prefer a caste system and UT isn't at the top.

What if once the situation‘s resolved before your time frame (possibly days, not weeks) and no additional penalties come from it, is it still “disastrous“?

There was a player that literally gave their scholarship back to LSU because the family said their son was going to make plenty from NIL. If that’s not a distinct competitive advantage then idk what is. That type of stuff shouldn’t be allowed.
