Vitello Will Not Leave Tennessee. . .

I don’t think lsu offered either sully or Bianco. Sully had the recent baggage that scared them away imo

facilities are a very small piece of the puzzle as to why the lsu job is better then tenn. Doesn’t really even factor in imo
What is their scholarship situation? From what I’ve seen, LA isn’t a state that has a lottery scholarship program like I thought they did. There’s like 8 states in the south that offer that and LA wasn’t listed. So what helps them?

I’ve talked to the people I know. Admittedly, my source is an uncle who played baseball at UT 40 years ago so I don’t know how much he could possibly know. He has high ranking friends, but still. Anyways.

Reversal of opinion, I think he stays.

Whatever DW pays, he won’t be overpaying. As an AD, if you believe your current coach has the potential to be successful for a decade, paying top dollar isn’t overpaying. Also, one can’t overstate how stabilizing one sport radiates to others. Vitello and his effects on the program are an asset on the rise. Vitello (and the new stadium) aren’t just a P&L in the AD, they are brand assets and a statement of our commitment to excellence. When other coaching candidates and recruits see the support Barnes, Heupel, Jolly Harper and Vitello have received, they will feel safer making the choice to follow. It would be hard to overstate the value of this one good season on the perception of the entire AD. As for the isolated value of his salary, the highest salary won’t be the highest salary in two years. If Vitello were a stock, he’d be Apple in 2008. As fans, or as taxpayers, we should be encouraged in the health of our AD and university if we can keep TV.

If ADDW doesn’t screw it up! Clearly CTV has orange, the fans and city in his heart already! DW needs to quickly get his head in the right place to improve EVERYTHING with CTV and the program. Boyd, Plowman and Big $ are already doing their part!

What have you got against White?

I think it's worth mentioning that next year there will be raises and coaching searches that will result in raising the market value even more. So if we "overpay" this year it doesn't necessarily mean we'll overpay next year and so on. Market conditions are changing all the time.

Watch for Brian O’Connor to LSU

I don't see it. He does well at UVA and I think it's incredibly hard to lure coaches in any sport from those elite academic institutions. I think the character of the people they hire to begin with is what makes it so challenging.

plus he can use the interest to lever a lot more shekels out of UVA. He seems relatively underpaid given his results.

Seems like Dem Tigars are backpedaling. " Tennessee willing to make TV the highest paid" in college.
Suddenly they don't think he's that great😂
God I hope they end up with their 10th choice.

If Vitello is truly the number one target, well the road is clear it's the off-season with no distractions and I cannot imagine this goes past today or tomorrow either way. The longer this drags out, the more likely it is that Vitello isn't who they're prioritizing and he is just a backup plan.

I don't see why they aren't targeting Mississippi State coach. He's been successfully running a high-stress program and has taken his team to the CWS both years it's been available. He was moderately successfull for four years at Indiana before that.

I just base it off money. Florida, MSU, LSU stadiums were 60mil~. We’ve committed 35 mil. So I just reckon that’s middle of the pack.

35 mil to an existing park that initially cost 20 mil? So total investment of 55 mil? That should be sufficient to recruit and win championships. Look at the dump Vanderbilt plays in.

I hope they end up with their 1st choice, because I think it’s Tim Corbin.

With the scholarship advantages he has at Vandy, I just don’t see it. Godwin or O’Connor are the most likely outside of our guy. Don’t think Godwin signed his ECU extension yet but I know they had a BOT meeting today to try to get one written up

Not speculating, second hand info from near the top

I’ve heard Johnson’s name thrown around too.

I don’t think they will get him either, but I think he’s their first choice. I wouldn’t count out McDonnell from Louisville, either.

Not the best way to look at it because a lot of that money is to just fix wear and tear of LNS, not add on. There will be some really nice additions but it will only account for like half of the allotted money. Middle of the pack in SEC is probably fair. Maybe 5th-7th. Miss State, USCjr, LSU, Arkansas, and Ole Miss have great stadiums already

While it was over 10 years ago, I think LSU’s was about $38 million. I mentioned to a Miss. State friend that we have committed $35 million, and he said you can do a whole lot with it. Close to even building a brand new one. We will never get to Dudley Noble, but they have a huge built-in fan base. Florida is struggling for fans with a $60 million stadium.

Well said, SF. I've talked about the bleeding effect in the past, too. I mean, just think about basketball. It's success has ignited fan enthusiasm in arguably the darkest period of our football history, and it kept the university in the spotlight. Florida is an elite football, basketball, and baseball school, and look at their facilities and funding they get because of the fan enthusiasm. Stability is something this university is sorely lacking with severe coaching turn-over and apathy. If Vitello were to stay long term, Barnes keeps this level of success, and Lady Vol basketball continues it's upward trend, this will only help football in the long-run. Stability is key, and it cannot be understated the importance of committing to the entire athletic department and it's programs.

Ole Miss’s was built in 1989 before LNS. They have done renovations, but it’s still the bones of a 1989 stadium. I’ve never been there, but people say the fans are what are attractive to it.
