VN Baseball Coaching Search 2011

Haney is covering the post game conf. let's see if they add to the jubilation by saying Holbrook stays, seriously doubt it.

Part of me wants to interpret that as Holbrook saying so long to the Game Cocks, but the realistic part of me says it is him saying he isn't going anywhere. Not that Serrano would be bad, but these past few days had me wanting it to be Holbrook. Guess we will have to wait and see.

Interesting that it decided to release the info. Several (including me) have reported that meeting will be tomorrow.

Can't recall too, too many times when a school announced an asst coach was interviewing for a job. Guess it was out there enough.

For the record, as I leave the stadium, @cholbrook2's office light is still on.

Not shocked they did actually.

SC made announcement after pressure from some writers about making a statement. OK, that makes more sense. Thought it was outta nowhere

Too much info out. Makes them look like naive by not at least acknowledging.

Also sets up the possibility of a bidding war.

I see your point...do you see him not interviewing?

The coach who told me he has removed himself from contention is someone I really trust.

I just think that at the end of the day he wants to stay at SC and if he does interview it will be to improve his stature there.

I believe you that he wants to stay, I'm just trying to square something said on TOS with what is going on now, but the more I think about, it wasn't emphatic on their part.

People are guessing and slinging a lot of fecal matter right now. The truth is in there. Just takes a shovel and some waders.

Dead, the only way to describe it, nobody is saying anything and it hasn't been like this since the tourney started.

Serrano on Tuesday is the thought on TOS, but the reason given for why Holbrook wouldn't interview didn't ring true to me. Hyams didn't go that far, but he said expect a press conference on Tuesday.

The Cali guys, Rogers, especially, say Serrano hasn't interviewed and won't until the middle of the week, AFTER Holbrook. The USC SID said Holbrook would interview this week, under pressure from reporters after the game last night.

The Carolina guys are on the same page with the Cali guys, except they believe Holbrook is the #1 choice. They agree that if the announcement is going to be made on Tuesday, that it's probably not going to be Holbrook, who is now in the CWS.

Somebody is wrong. Does it matter? Not to most folks, actually maybe I'm the only one and I'm not sure why it matters.

All I can say is what I think. I think Holbrook is sleeping on it right now, though he's probably getting little sleep. If he declines the interview, takes his hat out of the ring, he saves the AD from mounting pressure. If he does the interview he drives up the price and could become a distraction at the worst possible time. Tough decision.

I read a lot on Holbrook yesterday, the history behind his move from UNC to SC, his relationship with Tanner etc...Money is not the sole motivator for this guy. The first time Tanner tried to hire him away, he said no. His son was fighting lukemia, he didn't want to change doctors and even though the pay raise would have allowed his wife to stay home, he said no. The second time Tanner tried, Holbrook said yes, calling it the opportunity of a life time to learn from Tanner, who he greatly admires.

Coupled with all the things he's said lately, this guy is looking for a reason to stay. I think the AD and Tanner will do everything they can to keep him. If that's UT's guy, they better be ready for a fight as Tanner predicted days ago, and have that checkbook ready.

Other than TOS making their call and three teams in our division making it to the CWS, not much news today. GBO!

Sounds like Holbrook may not exactly want to be here but feels as if he needs to take the job. I don't know how Serrano feels about it. What may worry me about Holbrook is when Ray Tanner steps aside, SC will come calling for Holbrook. I don't want to see UT as a stepping stone for Holbrook.

I agree...that puts Serrano ahead for me.

Whittle confirms through a source that Holbrook to meet with Baseball Committee on Tuesday, which is more firm than the SC SID's "next week" from last night...tifwiw...

Per Basilio's blog...interesting read

"I was also told that this is the week Tennessee will hire a baseball coach. If my sources are correct, it's all going down this week and you'll know perhaps as early as Friday who UT's next coach will be."

This would be in line with the west coast guys, other than the other nugget he dropped in there, about somebody being interviewed late last week.
