VN Baseball Coaching Search 2011

It's honestly a win-win with both candidates at this point.

no doubt. it's about time, with all the hires we've went through, that we wind up with a home run that we can all be happy about. we can be proud at the news conference instead of saying "who in the world....?!?"

Go Vols!!

I feel better about Holbrook after watching the game last night. I realize they've got great players, but Tanner made some good calls, and they looked great defensively. I watched Fullerton's games in the series, and they weren't nearly as sharp. Of course, their fanbase says that it was like that much of the year and that it was uncharacteristic.

Agree, if we get either one I'll be pleased.

Serrano has a record as a HC and has taken two different teams to the CWS. Holbrook is an Associate HC, so he's never run his own program, but he's got a lot of upside and he has a sterling rep. as a recruiter.

wish he'd at least spell the names right. Wonder what rogers will have to say about that...

Holbrook decides to stay at SC, They pass on Serrano over the degree and we end up with Pierce or somebody else. Yes. Not a knock on Pierce, but yeah...that's it.

Adds nothing at all to the conversation, but I used to play with a couple of guys that are playing for Pierce now. Can't help but wonder what their thoughts are on him. They had a quality season this year for what its worth.

Although he's a step below Dave and Holbrook, Pierce would not be a bad hire.

It's still Serrano's to lose.

It really sounds like the #gamecocks, as ray tanner alluded to in hoover, are making a very strong commitment to Chad and his family. #sec

One thing people need to realize is that Holbrook has a very good family situation in Columbia. I also think he's the HC there in 5-7 yrs.

@ @volsfan233 I think the hire will be Dave Serrano. Get the feeling #Gamecocks will do enough to keep Holbrook.

Sure it may be a good family situation but as someone who has lived in several places can attest. South Carolina is an okay place to visit or vacation but it sucks to actually live there.

Sad part, many people who live there blessed with enough self awareness to know they live in a dump. At least some people in Alabama know their state sucks (but it is so open and obvious there they can't help knowing it)

What's really laughable is that South Carolina fans think anything in their athletic department is considered preeminent. One national title in one meaningful sport and you'd thought they invented it.

Sure Tennessee athletics is down, but it is still preferable to the entrenched mediocrity that is little-USC. We know we can and will get better. Barring a major sea-change; the Gamecocks athletic programs are at their apex and can only go down.

And sure this is for the benefit of the trolls.

South Carolina's nicest areas are on the coast such as Charleston, Hilton Head, and Myrtle Beach. But if I wanted a beach vacation, I'd go to Destin or Gulf Shores before those three. As for living there, Id rather live in South Carolina than say North Dakota. :)
