VN Baseball Coaching Search 2011

That is the one thing I hate with coaching interviews, if you are or become uninterested in a postion you are being considered for then don't show up for a courtesy interview. Nothing personal against Holbrook, I understand why he wants to stay but I can't understand why coaches do the courtesy interview.

It's the nature of the business. I don't blame them for doing it personally. I've done it in my own career.

John Whittle from 3 hrs. ago:.He was driving up there this morning. I'm not even sure if the interview has started but I'm sure it's not concluded. I do know that he's meeting with the people in power today and he'll be there a while. I wouldn't exact much until very late this afternoon or this evening.

I understand but it just seems pointless to me. I guess it is sort of getting my hopes up for a candidate only to find out he really didn't care.

He cared at one point. But I believe he thinks he's in a better situation where he is at this point.

I know...it's Hyams...I've been listening to the radio in knoxville since 10AM and I haven't even heard a mention of Holbrook or UT baseball, thought I'd post a link for those that want to hear if Hyams says anything. His show starts at 3PM with Wilkerson.

The Sports Anus is most likely too busy to discuss the baseball job because they have to meet the daily quota of women's underwater basket weaving and a feeble attempt at being TMZ Jr.

Unfortunately, it's all we got...I've been listening to 1180, zilch...I think Gribble has had one tweet about Holbrook...nobody in the knoxville media seems to care, which is pretty frustrating. Hyams made the call for tuesday, so I'd think he'll have some tid-bit, just guessing.

Seen a couple places that Holbrook was going to hit a couple of showcases on the way back to Columbia, if that is true, I'd think the interview would have to be winding down tifwiw...SC leaves for Omaha 10AM Thursday by bus...ugh.

re: courtesy interviews

I don't think an assistant coach on a CWS team would drive/fly to a rival school in CWS week for a courtesy interview.

I (and I believe the majority) of people would prefer Serrano. This argument about recruiting the "area" or southeast is a stretch and since Serrano has coached in are before and has kept close ties with southeast and East Tennessee, I think this make a moot point.

Rogers tweeted that his latest is up, but he put in the $ portion of the site...

Why wouldn't he? He's an assistant coach looking to improve his career.

Been reading along for a while... Does nobody else get the vibe that this might not happen this week?

Rogers has mantained that Serrano hasn't even interviewed yet, which is in contrast to what the Tennessee writer and one paysite say...I still think they make an announcement before the CWS...If they don't I would think it means Holbrook. If it's anyone else, why wait?

If the hire doesn't happen this week, could it mean that Holbrook is the man and they are waiting to see what happens with USCe in Omaha? Have to figure if it is Serrano that an announcement would be made this week, what would be the point in waiting to announce Serrano if he gets the job.

The uncertainty of the athletic department could be a big part as to why it takes longer than originally believed.

@ @mainiman I honestly think #Gamecocks give Holbrook the head coach in waiting tag without announcing it to public. That's my thought. #SEC

Lol.

Good. I want Serrano the more I think about it. Would much rather have a proven HEAD coach, and not just a great re rioter with no head coaching exp. My only concern is Serrano's re ruining prowess in the south east. But Tennessee has great highschool ball, and the Weekleys have proven you can pull in great classes from far away (Cali, etc). I really hope it's Serrano.

I got no real information to add, except that I sense Cronan is a very deliberate decision maker who will want to be absolutely certain she's arrived at the right fit.... however she could clearly wait too long and wind up with a crap name on the dotted line.

Timing. Timing. and Timing.

You may know this already, I didn't know this until I started following this, and I'm not sure it's correct...If they make him the coach in waiting officially, some say he has to follow the same HC rules with regards to recruiting. Obviously, they can't afford to do that. FWIW

I think your right about Cronan, I think that's why she wanted to sit with Burke. If it's not Serrano and it's not Holbrook, then I think it's back to the drawing board so to speak, so yes in that sense, maybe it could drag on.

I actually did know that about football, but didn't know it applied universally with all college sports. Makes sense that it does though. I personally love the rule.
