Vol uniform/helmet design discussion (merged)

The only way I think it would hurt recruiting is if another team in the SEC had 80 different uniform combinations.

our cleats look sick, and they are ligher than any other. but please enough with conical studs, clear disadvantage... adidas neds the Traxion studs they have in soccer..

Okay this is a touchy subject around here. Here's how it goes:

Younger posters and athletes love Nike.
Nike feels lighter and better than Adidas. It looks better by far.

Younger players like to have the option of wearing newer and odd looking uniforms from time to time.

Also if a prospect doesn't know anything about the tradition of our program Nike uniforms is a great introduction.

Older posters (who don't really deal with a lot of high level athletes):
Complain that it doesn't matter.

They say the equipment isn't a factor.

Also they think Nike will mess up our uniforms. Just like Nike messed up Bama and Penn State(see what I did there).

Also they like that we don't have any different uniforms(see what happened when we put on black against SCAR '09). Players like new and different uniforms but the players are not who matter. It's all about tradition to these type of posters.

Bottom line Nike is better. It's preferred more than Adidas. Adidas is really a distant third behind Nike and Under Armour. With Nike being far out in front.

I personally prefer Nike. I like a lot of their products, I like the quality of their fan apparel, I like the potential for an nice-looking OCCASIONAL alternate uniform (I love the traditional uniform and I don't want to be like Oregon, but it's not bad to have a little fun every once in a while). I think younger people (i.e. recruits) generally like Nike better. With all that said, it doesn't affect me all that much, and I don't really have anything against Adidas.

Dead on. I dont think a recruit will commit soley based on which company sponsors the team but few would commit based on one thing anyway. Maybe you sign with a team over another based on a coach but typically its the whole package that you would sign on for. Guys sign with UT because of the tradition, facilities, conference, etc. To have one more thing that recruits like certainly wouldnt be a hinderance. And recruits definitely like Nike or Under Armour.

If you'le look its interesting how much College football uniforms change every 5 years atleast, I tend to forget until I watch old films, It just makes me wonder what we will be wearing 10 years from now.

This is debated on the board all the time, IMO that Nike check means alot.

you mean the Nike check that would be for less than what Adidas gives UT? Also pretty sad that people want a brand to represent UT that views us as a second-tier program. That's insulting IMO

UA is crap. I get the Nike/Adidas thing but people lose me when they start throwing in UA

and another thing, Adidas offered UT alternate jerseys and DD said no. So that means we wouldn't have that option with Nike and that Adidas is trying but we don't want to change. As deerpark said, we're signed with Adidas for a few more years anyway so this discussion doesn't matter

You must really don't know. UA looks and feels better than Adidas gear. I can't vouch for how the cleats feel put their Under Armour compression gear is the best period. Better than even Nike. Dooley won't let us wear alternate uniforms until the team earns them plain and simple.

so they make 1 good product? We should switch right away

not true. He is a traditionalist and not a fan. The team earning them has nothing to do with it

In my experience, except for the compression "under gear", UA has cheap crap. (Could be that they contract the other lines out and add the UA tag to it) It's poorly constructed and falls apart. They did one thing well and then tried to capitalize on the name. Major fail.

Even with the compression gear, it's not like it's a far superior product. They were just the first to market it properly.

You speak as though you are one of the players. Are you? If not, where do you get your information?

UA has alright gloves. I have heard their cleats suck but I don't know from first hand experience. The worst thing about Adidas is that their apparel always felt heavy. Skill players hate feeling like the gear they have on is heavy.

The cleats are absolute garbage. Adidas owns Reebok who is the NFL's official supplier. I think if Adidas was smart they'd stick to soccer, and let Reebok handle the football.

I have Adidas fan gear and Nike fan gear, but I prefer the Adidas. Adidas gives all of our athletic programs tons of gear and big $$$$$ because we are one of their top programs. Nike will not provide gear to all of our programs and would list us as second tier, so they don't have a snowballs chance in hell of getting in at UT. UA doesn't even make gear for all the sports, so they too are SOL. If we decide we want something different, newer, more fashionable, or whatever it is, I would bet Adidas would be more than happy to make it. Until then, it is a moot point.

i'm 24 years old and hate the majority of the designs nike spews out....so not necessarily.

I always prefer quality over anything else. Kids may want to wear alternative unis every now and then, but they don't want to look like idiots. Give them more credit than that. If our AD decided to go with UA or Nike, you'll be sure to see checkerboard britches in the future :loco:. The only thing that I can't figure out with Adidas is why they can't get the orange jerserys to match the orange stripes on the britches.

Nike taking its talents to South Beach didnt help their cause either.

Yes it did. Most 18-25 year olds loved what Lebron did and drank all the Miami Kool Aid they could over the summer. Jason Whitlock wrote a good article on it.

D-I players were polled (I forget by whom) and a vast, vast portion said Oregon had the best uniforms in college ball.

I doubt it comes down to the final decision for most recruits, but anybody who doesn't think it has an effect on recruiting just isn't paying attention.

I know most older fans hate the look, but most football recruits see it 180* the opposite way, and that's the cold hard truth.
