Vol uniform/helmet design discussion (merged)

Dooley didn't hate it, there was a problem in his mind with the color of the numbers, so they had a new set made. Because of the quick turnaround, the second set didn't have the collar. It is my understanding that the orange collar will return this season.

That was a question UT asked as well. I would think that, based on the designs the NCAA has approved in recent years, those or something similar might be allowed if submitted now.

The difference between the two was how far down the front of the jersey the orange extended, below the collar, while the jerseys that Arkansas, Michigan and others have worn do not.

I think a modified version that just covered the shoulders could be approved, but I don't know that Dooley wants to go in that direction.

:hi: Much appreciated.

I'd like to see something done with the uniforms, and it doesn't have to be big. Even something as small as adding on orange collar makes the away unis look better IMO.

But, I understand why people like it the way it is now/ always has been.

They're always trying out new stuff from Adidas, especially in the spring. Product development is a big part of why our contract is so lucrative.

DP how is it you know so much about our uniforms and have you heard about any undershirt changes for the coming season and will they be sold to the public. Is there anywhere to get UT orange and black with white shoes?

DeerPark, I have wondered for a while:

The UNLV game uni in '04 were good looking but I have heard that they couldn't be full time away unis because there is too much orange on the top. Is that the real reason for that? And how is it really that different that what Arkansas wore a few years ago?

Personnally...I think Arkansas uni's and apparel r one of the most white trashy in the league. Just IMO that's all...

I think Adidas exposure in the NBA is gonna really pay off with the younger kids. I saw a pre-teen black kid the other day at the grocery decked out in Adidas. Adidas Rose sleeveless tee, adidas shorts, black socks (pulled up to show logo, clean sneakers, headband. U can tell this kid was out to impress with his all-Adidas outfit.

The unis worn during the UNLV game are in violation of the NCAA rules. People keep wanting to compare those unis to what other people are wearing (Arkansas, Michigan State, etc.) but they are not similar. The UT throwback unis has the home (dominate) color covering the shoulders and the collar. That's where the violation comes in and that's why our guys were only given one special occasion to wear them and never again.

I liked those .They are bad a$$ .Wish they could. Wear those again and maybe put black on top and orange on bottom with white numbers

I'd love to see some alt unis vs Florida or Bama (as long as they aren't anything like Maryland's) it would get our team fired up

will UT do a throwback uniform in 2012?

As of today, UT has no plans for an alternate or throwback uniform this season.

I suppose it's possible that could change, but I don't think that is at all likely.

I would have loved to be the first to do the large T like Mich did last yr or yr prior with the M. I'm not a jersey wearing guy, but I would buy that in a heartbeat!! Especially if it were the black jersey with orange T....now that would be sweet and old school for sure!!! And it would satisfy all the people who want to see the black jerseys again. Im a traditional guy and not much of the type that want to change our uni's every week just for money, but I would be ok with the Big Power T.

I had forgotten about the UNLV uni's. Thanks Molsen81 for clearing that up.

GBO!!!!

So new uniforms get a bad team in the MAC fired up, so everyone should do it?

If a team needs a new jersey to get fired up to play Florida or Alabama, then the coach has done a terrible job of teaching his team what being an athlete in the SEC is all about. Leave the motivational ploys to the MAC.

Am I the only one who didn't like the checkerboard undershirt? Just didn't look right. imo

I know most need something because of the tech-fit jersey , but I'm just not a fan of it. Not really a fan of the tech-fit either.

I am always amazed at people who think Uniforms will get a team fired up....*facepalm*.
Players should be fired up to wear the traditional Tennessee Orange jersey IMO. No other school has our shade of orange. Its unique, traditional, and not some silly annual gimmick. With that being said I'll always lobby for checkerboard britches as an occasional twist, but this is still something that has our colors in it.

I would like to disagree with you based on player quotes and personal experience.

Yeah, I have the personal experience as well, and a new jersey never fired me up, like DeerPark said, playing my rivals fired me up enough.

Also to the idjit that posted the Ohio Bobcats...seriously? A ****ing MAC team, when they play an SEC schedule, you let me know. Retarded post was retarded.

Uniforms should never get your team fired up. If that's a ploy you need to use then you suck as a coach (See Kiffin).

i think that was actually Eric Berry's idea. i think a lot of you guys take the fact that these kid's like the idea of having something new done to the uniforms and just totally blow it out of proportion. the whole "needing uniforms to get fired up" is something you all created to dispose of an idea you dont like. ive never heard of one instance when the Vols were less fired up for a game, because they were unhappy with the uniforms.
