Vol uniform/helmet design discussion (merged)

The fact that UT won't come out in a different uniform every single week as a blatant cash grab for additional jersey sales is the reason college football has passed UT by? Last I checked Alabama's current uniforms are nearly indistinguishable from the uniforms they were wearing 50 years ago, and they've won 3 of the past 4 National Championships. Might want to search elsewhere for the cause of UT's problems, because clearly lack of innovation on the gameday attire front doesn't have to be an obstacle.
Shows what you know. Bama has used a couple of pro combats, LSU,Florida, uga, south carolina.hell UT is the only one in the sec that hasn't used a alternative uniform.

Except the two times when we did wear one, of course.

Alabama's big pro combats that you're trumpeting only had houndstooth patterns on the numbers that couldn't even be seen from 5 feet away. Don't act like they did something major.

this mindset is why the college football world passed Tennessee by in every aspect. the problem is, you guys dont even realize it.

Funny how true this really is. Tennessee is behind in every aspect now.

Ask any 18 year old about our "Tradition"

It isn't a pretty thing.

UT keeps sinking deeper and deeper, but no one seems to notice.

I'm sure there are some teams out there that have a black and orange color scheme if you want to buy some apparel in those colors. Orange and white are UT's colors, so that's what colors the merchandise should be.

Black is an accent color....definitely not a big deal for someone to wear black and orange UT apparel and shouldn't be a big deal to wear a black and orange jersey one game every couple years

Yeah, the downfall of our program is directly tied to our lack of alternate uniforms. Ok.

:eek:hmy:

That black carbon fiber with orange T is bad ass!!! I'm normally a traditional guy but I could go along with that for a one-off game!

I don't get the wailing and gnashing of teeth over black UT gear. You can still buy it.

It makes perfect sense for UT to want to present a standard look as far as orange and white go. I'm not sure why people get upset by that.

Alabama's "alternative" uniforms were barely different from their normal ones. Don't even pretend they were something drastically different.

UGA has merely used a black jersey, and once black helmets and pants that everyone hated, and their alternates from the beginning of 2011 their fans hated. Their look is still basically the same as it's always been.

LSU and Florida have had alternates but again, both were not drastically different than what they have had, and neither went with a black jersey.

And with UGAs black uniforms, that is within the school colors. So, using UGA as a reason to use black is worthless anyway.

Again...explain Alabama.

On top of that, explain why both teams in the NC game this year sport traditional looks that have barely changed over the year. ND had one throwback, a green jersey, and the one alternate last year that still wasn't all that different.

I think Bama only had one pro combat, and only after a thorough check could you spot the differences. Nevertheless, lets assume that they've had two Pro Combat designs. Your argument holds no water because in the past 10 years, UT has also worn two different alternate uniforms, and has 4 different combinations of the standard home/away uniforms. Bama has a total of two. Therefore, UT is being significantly MORE innovative in the uniform department, yet still isn't winning while Bama is dominating. There has to be something else besides the uniforms that is causing this.

Uh, clearly anyone who turns on the TV and sees a black filled stadium will be able to connect the dots that it's not actually Vandy fans wearing the black, but in fact UT fans wearing a color that is not that of their school's just because it apparently "goes well" with UT's colors. I think that's pretty obvious. :)

by suggesting anyone would think there would be more vandy fans in anyone's stands.

Typical arrogant post on this site. I'm pretty sure UT is no position to be talking trash about Vandy right now after they beat us by nearly 30 points last year AND beat us in recruiting. History only gets you so far.

Glad to see people liking the carbon fiber helmets and whatever else I've tossed out on here. : )> As for the checkerboard jersey/uni, I'll mock it up in black, white, grey, and orange (with white chekerboard) jerseys. I'll also add the carbon fiber helmts to them as well...debating on making the helmet and jersey match or to mix and match sorta thing...seems about all variations have been talked about in some form or fashion lately.
