So the original vols don't deserve to be honored because they wore black.......gtfo
Yeah, and then we'll have the last laugh this fall when UT comes out each week in an appropriately colored uniform, just like they have (with one pathetic exception) every year in all of our lifetime's. Then we'll get to listen to you and your type whine for another year that UT's uniforms aren't flashy enough to win. Thankfully the people in charge over at UT have enough respect for the tradition that has been built over the years to not piss all over it by running the team out in some embarrassing monstrosity like everyone here promotes.
I don't think most fans calling for changes to the uniform are asking for monstrosities. This forum is a place to share design ideas (good and bad), and also thwart the idea that you can never make changes without pissing on tradition. Tennessee could incorporate an Orange Helmet with a white Power T, or a checkerboard shouldered jersey, or a Smokey colored alternate jersey gleeming with UT Orange numerals....while completely honoring all the Traditions of this great university.
If the friggin' Dallas Cowboys can wear alternate uniforms on Thanksgiving, and retain the most storied football tradition in the world... then I think that UT has nothing to fear. I can only speak for myself, but I have never promoted for UT to resort to gimmicks. No Highlighter Orange required, no Maryland Terrapin chaos welcome, no metallic helmets needed, and I am not fond of most combat uniforms.
But I refuse to be a stick in the mud, and I refuse to sit silent while our football uniform decisions are made by an Amish council. And I certainly can't stand when our program refuses to modernize in the name of Penn State and Alabama. Folks... we are not Alabama, or Penn State, or Michigan. We are the University of Tennessee. Our team is full of 18-22 year old kids who get excited about simple things like a uniform. Believe me, I am not wearing the Polyester Plaid Suit that my father used to wear... so we should give these kids a voice in what uniform designs they prefer within reason.
I always thought this would be awesome like once a year.I don't think most fans calling for changes to the uniform are asking for monstrosities. The Giants wear Red alternate jerseys twice per year, and changed from "Giants" on their helmets to "NY" several years ago:
The Steelers wear Yellow helmets twice per year, and last year wore the infamous Jailbird uniforms:
The Colts have worn blue helmets:
The Packers wore these God-awful uniforms:
Checkmate
Tampa Bay broke out of their funk, immediately following major uniform/color scheme changes as well. It does seem to provide a bit of a morale boost. I bet Cleveland would benefit from a decent change...stepping out of the 1940's and into the 21st century. But no...they'll keep their stodgy look...along the dismal record that goes with it. But, but , but....what about tradition? Kick it to the curb, if it's a losing one. And send Deerpark along with it.
Finally somebody took the bait!! LOL.
So you are saying the throwback uniforms were "traditional"? How on Earth did the teams change them then? :nono:
So we can't change UT's uniforms because of "tradition"? Yes...that is a corner you just backed into. :yess:
Bingo
I am unsure of what you are trying to prove by posting original pics of throwback uniforms. You don't even realize that you are unintentionally proving that iconic football teams can change their "traditional" uniforms. At some point in history...these teams stopped wearing those old uniforms. Call the police!!...they must have broken the law!! God forbid that UT might do the same.
Does anybody else ever feel like they are talking to a wall? Lol.
So basically that would mean ONLY wearing a black jersey that looks like the one they wore 100 years ago would be good under the circumstances you've put forth.

And they went back to them didn't they? Except greenbay. Y'all thought the 80's NYG uni was the traditional uni and the current was the new and improved uni. Get your history books out!! I'm tring to prove a point that most of your traditional teams don't have attention whore uniforms!! Yeah I know they might think outside the box and put one on for one game but to get away from what we've had through history to put on a fashion show is for high school girls and limp wrist folks....
Obviously to intelligent life...I was cleverly pointing out the absurdity of the current "we can't overhaul our uniform because they are tradition" way of thinking. By proving that football programs have abandoned iconic uniform designs in the past...it completely negates the current "we can't change our uniforms due to tradition" argument. Anyone still arguing this "traditional" excuse (like a few previous posters), now look completely incompetent. At this point...it is just entertaining to see them try to grasp at straws.
There is NO reason for CBJ and our team to be restricted in any way from updating our uniforms.
Still, the Dallas cowboy uni on thanksgiving is a throwback ain't nothing new.....
