Vols in Nick King's final four

Yes billy was a rare exception to a guy never getting a contract. CCM wouldn't have stated much longer without a contract, as I said that's expected when you accept a job.

As far as bonuses, you must mean the incentives? Every coach has these once again not exactly an uncommon practice, actually it also is expected in a coaches contract.

I like the contract, it's one of the few that have went in the universities favor...we have a huge buyout so no one can come and steal him from us...if the team wins like most think it should, he will get a huge raise/extension....if the team struggles than he won't.

I get the other side guys I do, I'm just on the pay what he's worth to YOU(as the university). IMO he's worth a top 5 spot, and seeing as how we're a top 5 basketball school It'd make sense IMO.

As has been said, this has said something to him and his agent about the committment hart has to basketball. If a basketball rich big 10 school comes calling, he might just listen hard and give it some thought.

I'm not saying a huge raise, but up a bit to A. Show were committed to him and the sport and B. to put him up closer to where he measures with worth.

I do like the buyout though.however if a good school wants him they'll pay it.

I don't disagree with this in fact BTO I strongly agree. However his contract does have some pretty good bonuses (incentives) and alot of coaches' contracts these days are more incentive based. Hugh Freeze Ole Miss Head football coach gets $100,000.00 bonus everytime he wins an SEC game. But I would agree that Hart had better plan to do better next year and remember Gov. Haslam is a huge Tennessee basketball fan so I am quite sure Hart will be ready to pay bigger bucks this time next year if Coach Martin and the Vols have a great year and I think they will!! Go vols!

I think we let him earn more pay on the court....granted he did better than predicted last season but he still just made the NIT and the last game he coached was us getting ran off the court by MTSU.

Im more worried that we would overreact like Norte dame did with Charlie Weis. I like coach Martin and hope he earns it this season.

The contract Notre Dame gave Charlie Weis after one year is exactly why you don't put the cart before the horse relating to coaches and contracts. There is no reason to overpay CCM after one season of moderate success. He could fall flat on his face, much like Weis. Let him make the NCAA tourney first, then we'll talk raises and extensions.

I agree. The Charlie Weis comparison is actually perfect. Also, didn't Michigan jump the gun a bit too?

I don't think we'll have to worry about CCM being happy after this year. I think he'll get his money after he makes a run this season.

Imo, the only ones worse is Doc, Jeff, and Heather. Doc, Jeff, and Heather do not know more than you would hear at the barber shop and Will and West's idea of being objective is always on the low side or the negative side of expectations. They seem to enjoy reminding us fans that we have not been good for the past several years.:ermm:

Doc, Jeff and Heather are very bad. At least Heather tries to break news, but the show is god awful.

That's why I like Will West, he can be objective. Vol fans won't deny that things haven't been great these past few years. I like to hear objective debate and analysis on the radio; if people want to hear non-stop sunshine, they can go to a pep rally.

I can not deny that Doc, Jeff, and Heather are very bad, But disagree that Will West is any better, if fact, maybe worse that DJ&H. West and Ward are a disgrace to the broadcast industry and create or misreport information so it will reflect badly and Tennessee sports. They are from the same mold of Hyams and Adams.

Mighty strong words from a Memphis fan about a Vol's sports talk radio station.

???

Were they really that strong?

I'd rather hear the reality about the Memphis/Miami programs than to hear constant "rah-rah"-ing, but maybe that's just me. A lot of people would rather be blissfully ignorant of reality than face a hard truth, so I can't really blame you, Zan.

What makes you think that Will West knows the cold hard truth about a program you are not a fan of? West is usually more negative than positive (when he's not just completely lost) Also, I do expect a bit of homerism in my LOCAL sports program hosts. I don't want a cheerleader but I don't want a negative Nancy either. And that's basically West in a nutshell. If West wants to cut his "objective sports writer" teeth then he should go to an "objective" outlet like Foxsports, ESPN, etc.

And thanks for saying I would rather be blissfully ignorant than face the cold hard facts. Back handed insults are the best kind of insults.

In before someone tells me to "not be so sensitive".

That's just it, people differ on this I guess. Give me objectivity any day.

Objectivity is for national media. I guess you were really upset that the Memphis media wasn't chasing all the "Calipari is dirty" rumors around Memphis when he was there.
Also, it's not that West's objectivity or lack of it that makes him a tool. He's just a tool.

I agree with you MC, I want to hear the reality about my team. Its just like some of the people on this board who think football is still in the 90's. We are not that good anymore.

Why must people come on the basketball forum and bring up football?

true that, to qoute heather. Jeff's ok but overall that show sucks.

You're a fool if you don't think this was a topic of conversation weekly in Memphis from about 2003 to 2009.

You really need to learn to talk without calling people names.

As for the Memphis media, they were in the tank for Calipari right up till he dumped them and went to UK.

I'm not leaving him out, I like him, but if you bring in guys like hubbs and king Richardson will have trouble seeing the floor.[/QUOTE
Actually that's not true. Richardson is a hard worker and Zo rewards those players that put forth effort day in and day out. He showed that with Tatum. Hello? Richardson has drastically improved his defensive skills and has gained alot of confidence in that short range jumper. To say he would be benched is absurd. He knows the system. As good as these young brothas are it would still be a transition for some of them to start.

He was talking about the recruiting there. Pearl tried his first two years there, and was literally forced out there. Hence why he started recruiting Atlanta.

Spot on brotha. Zo is quickly becoming the King of the Mtown. People need to understand that these young brothas are gravitating towards Zo and are highly impressed with him. They want to play for him. Zo's background and ability to overcome his environment has been inspirational to these young players. That coming from certain recruits that he's going after. Ballers in the M were blown away by the Vols ability to end up in second and people are impressed with the fact that he strolls through Memphis recruiting players like he owns the city. You all are going to be in for a shock when it comes to these recruits this year. "little Birdie"

Depends on the kids. There is a very clear social class divide in the city of Memphis, and it touches recruiting as well. Kids raised in the inner-city are Tiger fans and look up to guys like Lorenzen Wright and Penny. They're more apt to follow that trail, stay home to play for Memphis and, if good enough, go on to play for $.

The private school kids (McDonald, Nichols, etc.) have parents that probably went to ACC or SEC schools, and probably don't mind leaving their families and going away.
I will have to disagree with you on that one. The thought process in Memphis is changing quick. Players are willing and will leave the M to come play for Zo. That's a point of fact. Stokes was the first to break down that wall and he has been an ambassador for Zo and the program. Kids are listening and it has put a ton of pressure on Pastner. He knew this was coming especially when he found out last year that Zo was going to certain recruits hoops games and starting relationships. From what I understand Pastner did not take that well but was is he gonna do. Zo is a man amongst boys and he can hang in any inner city environment and kids listen to what he has to say. He is another option to get out of the M. Not just to get to the NBA but to develop into upstanding young men. Zo brings that extra umph to the table that Pastner can't bring and it is burning him up.

This my friends is the truth!!! Also (and I could be wrong on this) I think Memphis really screwed up cancelling the series with Tennessee. I think this will actually help Tennessee recruit Memphis better because the fact that the 2 schools aren't playing anymore won't put as much pressure on the local kids to stay home and beat Tennessee. So it will help and I think we're seeing that.
