Vols to add another commit to '15 class? (Joseph Young)

If they were really impressed at Scout, they could have at least bumped him to a 3*. Geesh! #Haters
I think ratings are based more on where guys are committed than most would think. For example I think that espn has Blake Barnett as the number one QB. He's good but josh Rosen blows that guy out of the water.

Guys a little earlier than this time last year people were asking why do we take a 2* corner(Emmanuel Mosely)? Well we saw how the coaches evaluations looked this past year, because as a freshman Mosely was already ahead of most sophomores and juniors on our squad. Joseph Young looks like he definitely has D-1 speed and D-1 hands, and I believe he deserves to be at a school like Tennessee. So many times kids like this in small towns just fall through the cracks and don't get the same opportunities that kids at bigger schools get. That is not indicative of how good/talented the kid truly is. I think once he adjusts to the speed of the game at this level that he can be a servicable RB back for us. Kid deserves a shot at a school like Tennessee and I'm glad he's getting it.

Would bet my bank account this guy doesn't end up on scholarship in 15 or 16

My concern as well. Maybe then those swearing a BS is a "guaranteed" scholarship will see it as the risk it is. Of course the 1st time the coaches don't follow through, selling BSs in the future would be near impossible.

What if UF had added the kid a week ago? Would there been a lot of pointing and laughing?

"There goes ole Jim, just stole one from Charlotte" .

That third RB in the class really sacked you in the popcorn bucket...JMO. :pinch:

Coaches must see something special in this guy. I believe he has a 2* rating and doesn't have very many "big" D1 scholarship offers.

He's not in this class. He's a BS counted in the 2016 class unless I missed something.

Semantics...if he plays on this team in the Fall, he slipped by your goalie mitt. :). OCD won't let you rationalize.

If being honest, I would have passed. Holyfield, Washington, Falcon, which one/s do you now have to pass on if they wanted in so you can provide this ship to what will equate to the 4th, 5th, or 6th RB on the depth chart behind 2 5* studs?

Imo the price is just too high.

Virginia and Tennessee offered and that was it for D1 schools. He'll be a good addition,it'll add good depth

And at what risk? If he's committable to Charlotte in 2015, practices with the Vols and decides to transfer, his only risk is out of state tuition for a semester.

If you're a 2 or 3 star kid and think you can play with the big boys and have offers at smaller schools, there's no risk in seeing how you stack up and then making a decision later on. It's like a year of prep school with good grades. After a blue shirt year, the decision to stay or go is made. It's deferred and the lesser options are still available. It's win/win for the kid and UT is not out anything if it doesn't work out except for the P.R. on a 2 star kids with limited options elsewhere.

I'd venture to guess the UVA offer was not commitable. If the options are UVA and Charlotte, I just can't see a recruit not choosing to be a Cavalier. Jmo

Still hasn't happened but he'd be fourth...no one buys your Perry,Bruce and Abernathy plan...four RBs is low depth in the SEC... Just simple numbers.

Except IF he takes the UT offer and gets burned, his other options may have all filled up. Happens all the time. Commit, get burned, have to start the recruiting process all over. Only then it would be a transfer.

I say we follow the lead of FSU and Ohio st. We need to sign every crook and thug that can run a 4.4 forty or better. Its time to win baby! Weve got an administrative expert on our staff now, he can figure out ways around all those pesky NCAA rules and regulations.:)

I'm not so sure UT is ready to start operating at the "fringes" just quite yet? Are You?

Charlotte is a d-1 offer. They r in conference usa starting next year.

I will give our coaches benefit of doubt. Sounds like he may have been backup plan for weber at osu.

Old Dominion is D1 now. I think they were on the list too, but yeah not a lot of D1 offers.

Impressive offer list lol j/k we need the depth so i hear

His offer list on Rivals is much better than the one listed on 247. Don't get me wrong, it's not chalked full of big time offers or anything, but he does have a lot more offers than what is listed on

I'm rolling with the coaches on this one, their misses evals have been few and pretty far between. There has been the occasional Woody Quinn and a few others mixed in but I cant remember many others. Missed evaluations happens at every university even the ones winning championships like Bammer.

Hopefully this guy is going to be the next E. Moseley--someone who fell between the cracks, didn't have any big time offers, and was committed to a lower level university. The coaches seem to have gotten it right with Moseley and hopefully Young is going to be the next true diamond in the rough that they get right.
