Didn't predict. Speculated.
Breaking in new QB but if they can convince a ton of seniors back, would help a ton to match 8.
The more new bodies they have to play, the less likely they are more successful. Jmo
Keep an eye on this one...
Dingle is a good TE. UK fans didn't want to lose him, even if he was underutilized. Outside of Brown, Robinson, and Key, he was probably their most reliable pass catcher. But only getting 11 balls in 10 games wasn't going to keep him. Interestingly enough, he's almost the exact same size as Joly, though he may be a better blocker. Also like Joly, he had one of his best games against Tennessee.
RelaxI know you as a poster well enough to know that, well, you know. So this isn't meant to disparage you or attack what you know. But given what you're saying, which I have no reason not to believe, the reasoning on the part of the coaches is circular. But according to what you're saying:
-We have 7-8 win talent for next year.
-It's year 4 of Heupel's tenure. Heupel said when he was hired that he intends to compete for championships immediately. Now I'm sure that was a bit of hyperbole, but he certainly knows that Year 4 at Tennessee, the expectations aren't 7/8 wins. It's to compete for championships, as he stated.
-In order to compete with Georgia/Alabama, we need more dudes.
-We're not attacking the portal because there aren't enough dudes there.
Except there are dudes there. We don't get a lot of them because we don't attack the portal. Alabama got Burton and Ricks from the portal. And the LT from Vandy last year. FSU got Keon Coleman and Jared Verse from the portal. Georgia got RaRa Thomas. Colorado got Travis Hunter and the TE. I haven't named a single QB. There are plenty of plug and play talented players from the portal, but YOU HAVE TO GO AFTER THEM. In fact, Tennessee has gotten Bru McCoy, Omar Norman-Lott, Keenan Pili, and John Campbell from the portal.
So we're just gonna sit tight with a 7/8-win roster and hope to keep building...in year 4? Really? That makes ZERO sense. If you don't have the talent on your roster, you do what you can to get it. And in the era of the portal, there's no reason not to.
Barring an injury to Nico….
Chattanooga, Kent St, Vandy, MS St, UTEP, Arkansas are all wins.
That’s 6.
That leaves Bama, UGA, OK, UK, FL, and NC St.
UGA & Bama will be stacked like always.
OK lost their starting QB.
UK will start a guy with 21 career attempts.
FL who knows but it’s in Neyland.
NC St MJ Morris threw 7 td and 5 INT last season.
Just seems like you’re only taking into consideration Vols roster and QB situation.
I can't count the number of times I read how we would stand a real chance to beat Bama and Georgia this year because they were losing great QBs. It was in the hundreds.
I am just speculating because of an inexperienced QB without all the elite talent that a Bama and Georgia has. Give me their talent and I would feel better.
Come August when all the rosters are set, I will be ready to predict. I predicted 9 for 2023 in August
They were up 20-7 on Bama at half. Had the offense been able to stay on the field in the 2nd half, that’s a different game. They’re competing.
If Joe just ran the ball more willingly throughout the season, they might have won another game.
I know you’re skeptical of a young RS Freshman, but there’s a long list of elite RS Freshmen QB’s. CJH doesn’t miss often on his QB evaluations and we have a large sample size to work with.

We’ve offered 8-9 dudes. Granted like half of them are TEs. But how many portal guys you expecting to take?
