Not against good players staying, but if they drag their feet and decide to leave anyway, it hurts the program if we've missed ot on guys we might have been interested in had we known they were leaving.

The more new bodies they have to play, the less likely they are more successful. Jmo

Shouldve played more this year. Need to create depth. Really need to increase talent, which we struggle mightily when outtalented.

I am just wondering if we are offering any of the big time DL, LB or DBs in the portal? I am Not talking about just guys from the ultra small schools. I mean Missouri got the top DB out of the portal. A former Clemson starter. Those are the types of players we should be targeting. Not SE Louisiana State and Kent State players.

In one of the recent pods AP said we’d like to take 1 portal TE and 2 HS TE’s (assuming Echols was one of the 2). I wonder what the plan is now? I know we’ve offered 2 HS guys recently but how realistic is it to get 1 let alone 2. May have to take 2 portal guys.

Why do you think this?

Even with Nico getting his first start I expect it to be an upgrade. Although I do expect a few more interceptions. Other than the team being healthy I don’t see many position groups getting much better. We will be underdogs against Georgia, Bama and Oklahoma for sure. It’s hard to be underdogs in 3 games and expect a 10-2 record at worst. Plus we can’t get out of our own way against UF. The 10-2 is possible but to say it’s the floor is overreaching at best.

Sounds to me like staff has been recruiting for a while like Echols wasnt committed.

Jayden Daniels is the likely Heisman winner and put up historic numbers in that LSU offense and they went 9-3. Football is more than a single position. 10-2 is not “the floor” next year when we still play Georgia AND Alabama.

You cannot possibly expect Nico to be as good next year as Jayden was this year which is what it would take for 10-2 being “the floor” to not be an absurd take. Again, football is not a single position. Our WR room was incredibly underwhelming this year. We’re going to be breaking in a lot of new contributors. You just expect those guys to put up Jaylin Hyatt numbers the moment they get a chance?

JD probably winning the Heisman. Nico should be good but won’t be at that level at least yet.
