Vols vs Florida Atlantic? Thoughts?

I just watched the FAU post-game, and when asked about how they would prepare for Tennessee, their coach said "we're going to study up on Australian rugby rules, and get ready for the Vols."

Screw that noise. They're already setting the stage to pull the officals into calling anything and everything to help them - and ESPN's been laying the groundwork for that nonsense as well. This "Tennessee plays in the mud" narrative is a load of crap, but I've heard several sports journalists use that expression independent of one another. They're all going to work that narrative this week. Expect to hear that "in the mud" business for as long as Tennessee's in the tournament. I hope it doesn't unduly influence the officiating.
Me too, but we all know how that goes. When the seed is planted it will usually grow. It could be a long night if they shoot a bunch of free throws.

Obviously no way to support our opinions, but yes I think this team would be in the bottom third of the SEC.
We can use the most recognized analytics engine used for college basketball (KenPom) but you have little faith in that.…..

Incidently, we lost the second half of the game against the Ragin Cajins by 8. We won because our D played up to character in the first half. We need to play 2 halves of our best defense from here on. If we do and the refs don't suddenly start calling touch fouls, we'll be fine.

The key is having someone else besides Santi make some baskets just like the Duke game. Play tough defense, play loose.

Lol at the gloomers. Yall are weak af fans. We should dominate them unless they play lights out from 3 and we turn the ball over 20 times.

Almost 100% sure that ESPN talking Jack***** hammering home all of the bad officiating and bully ball talk will effect the whistle for next game. They will be watching like hawks and I’d bet this weeks paycheck they’ll call 20 plus fouls on the boys. Gonna be a tough game imho.

My reaction after watching many games over the last 4 days is that the refs are letting them play for the most part, especially under the basket. I don't think they will change this for any one game.

Watching FDU 's #2 PG destroy them makes me real sad we won't have ZZ to further expose their defense.

Either way, I dont think they have the defensive tenacity to cause much resistance to our offense. It's a matter of our guys hitting their shots. Though I think we will have plenty success with our strong cuts to the basket and inside size.
They have plenty of guys to lean on, but I like our on ball pressure to disrupt them. They'll hit some threes, but as long as we outrebound them as we should and limit 2nd chance opportunities, I dont see this being enough to beat us.
My concern is how do we stop their break away baskets. They are extremely fast and can score a lot of points if they can get defensive rebounds. We have not faced a team as quick or fast as they are. We have to get some offensive rebounds and score on second chance points.

And that UNLESS has resulted in at least 4 of our losses this season. Take anyone lightly in the 16 and think you're walking onto a walk over game and you'll go home more often than not. No gloomers here, just some who were here in 18-19 and the Loyola fiasco.

This isn't an easy matchup, especially if they knock down 3s, but I get the vibe we will win this one.

Well, gotta hope them having the 40th ranked 3 point percentage against our #1 3 point percentage defense in all of D1 factors in the outcome. But the ball can bounce funny this time of year.

Our length is really gonna bother them. They play a 4 guard line up, the tallest of which is 6-4

They have one that that is 7-1 and another that is 6-8.

We should be able to defend them well.
We do have more length, but they have a lot more quickness. They cause a lot of turnovers which fuels they fast breaks. They can be a problem if we don’t shoot about 45% from the field-35% from the 3 point line.

We aren’t turnover prone without ZZ though are we?

At the same time we are a great offensive rebounding team. If FAU is overly focused on getting points off the breakaway then they may be leaving the rim less protectected and be more vulnerable to 2nd chance turnovers.

And honestly, I didn't notice then as bring a speedy team. If they are, it surely didnt translate on the defensive side of the floor. I thought they lacked defensive intensity.

But even if we concede some breakaway points, I'd rather have our tall and lengthy dudes contesting their shots and bullying them up.

Barnes has been talking about how much Vescovi is held and fouled away from the ball and that seed fell on hard ground

FAU shoots 37% from 3, when our opponent shoots 36% or better from 3 we are 2-5.
Again, they created those shooting stats against a bunch of very weak opponents so stating the statistics without factoring in the huge disparity in quality of opponents isn’t a fair measurement IMO

For what it’s worth, against Ole Miss they shot 38% (8-21) from three, and against Florida 54% (13-24)
