Vols vs. Florida Softball Thread

The big question. CAN WE SCORE??? Hopefully this wrrkend we get a win tomorrow. But if not i will be ok as long as tourny time we get our revenge.

Sounds good but probably wishful thinking. Have not scored in 3 straight games and did not score in the innings in the 3rd game with bama that was not official. Many on here said we have a very good offensive team this year but at best we have 5 or 6 offensive threats total. We have two pretty good young pitchers that can only get better but neither overpowering. These last few games shows us we have a long way to go. Many think we will go to TAM and win at least 2 of the 3 and I hope so as well but we will have to dig ourselves out of this scoreless rut. Matters not if the pitchers pitch a near perfect game if we cant get a run. Florida is 2 notches ahead of us and 3 pretty great pitchers. They are the best team I have seen this year and I would hate to have to play anyone who beats them. Our girls looked lost as a group and not much fire. Would love to get a win tomorrow but I don't see it. JMHO!:thud::thud:

Two embarrassing games. Of course we are not going to win without scoring runs, but we knew getting hits and runs would be tough. It is our pitching that's been the major disappointment. Moss and Arnold were bad. It doesn't help your team's psyche when you giving up runs early in the game. Moss hung in there until the 5th, but Arnold was just bad. Expected more. Sad that we've not been competitive. How many times did we strike out today? I'm glad I didn't see either of these games--good grief. Who is the better contact hitter between Holcomb and McClain?

Lady Vols have played scared these first two games. Florida is a very good veteran team, but you shouldn't fold your tent when you face them. Our team is young, but should still play it's game. When you play a very talented team, you raise your own level of play. Then,if you're beaten, you know you gave your best effort. Lady Vols have not given their best effort so far in this series. Florida has a great pitching staff, made better by the fact that they throw strikes. Our pitchers throw way too many balls and dig themselves a hole. Defense has been lackluster so far,and our hitters are way overmatched. It is a learning experience,so come back tomorrow with a new zeal for a big effort!! Go Lady Vols!!

In MHO Holcomb would be the better contact hitter. McClain has the speed and is probably the better outfielder but Holcomb is certainly sufficient. Whether Arnold was just bad and Matty as well as you have said and I have said when the other team get ONE RUN and you whiff so much you get beat. Whatever happened after the first run in both games is really irrelevant to that game. We are a long way from being the Gators talent wise.!:clapping:

The only way anyone beats this Florida team is if Florida beats themselves .They far outdistance anyone else in pitching talent and overall talent.

The Lady Vols will need to obtain a Dominant pitcher to be able to compete with them any time in the near term.

If they aren't ready or fired up to beat Florida something is wrong. Big time! They better fight tomorrow!

Our girls have got the gaters in their heads big time. Playing tight and making errors out of pretty routine plays. Conceding first pitch strikes and getting in a hole. We are beating ourselves or at least giving a very very good gator team a whole lot of help. Deer in the headlights seems appropriate here.

and we're a lot better than kentucky.

Barnhill has pitched on trips to the West Coast the last couple of seasons and nothing has been called out there either. If her dominance is attributed to cheating I'm really surprised nobody has brought it up more. It's not as if she is above the game and officials are afraid to call her out. Wonder if the commentators on the SEC Now show would be willing to bring it up. An ex-Vol is on this weekend giving analysis.

An SEC Now analyst agreed with me that her crow hopping is well known. A current coach said the umps will say they can't see it or she gets no significant advantage from it. That's just so much bull.

I understand the Barnhill is in a different planet statistically.

However, they have 2 other pitchers with an ERA under 1.

As far as the illegality of her pitches goes, the whole thing looks awkward to begin with. It's not how you teach someone to pitch and mechanically it's weird.

The only issue is the dragging of the foot and for the most part, they all do he same damn thing. Can you slide a couple dollar bills under there? Yeah. Is it coming off the ground any more prominently than any other pitcher? IMO, no

She jumps and replants. She gets power from her second plant prior to release. It is much more egregious than a common no drag, which does get called on others from time to time.

Kentucky beat FL 5-1. ?

I agree with Ralph if we had their pitchers we would be first with a couple losses and they would be on down the list. I think our hitting is as good as theirs or better but our pitching is far below them right now. I think we could get to where they are in a couple of seasons as Arnold and Moss get more experience and the left hander joins the team.

Florida lost to Auburn 1 to 0 and got beat 5 to 1 by Kentucky. I feel our pitching has to pitch a shutout and Gregg has to clock one for a homer if were to win a game.

Fla is one tough team....

Our girls are getting an education of what is needed to be champs....These losses will help later...

I still hate losing to Fla, but damn, have to look for something positive.

Four of UF's first seven runs were unearned yesterday (didn't see the last two in the 7th). LVs just haven't been sharp this weekend. We have a chance to clean up some things today and prevent a sweep.

We have to start strong, though. We've been letting their lead batter get on base and score during the first inning, while their pitcher retires the top of our order. We need to flip that and set a different tone to get our mojo back. A three-game scoreless skid isn't a great confidence booster.
