Vote by mail

every signature is electronically verified before the vote is counted so even if a ballot was sent to a deceased person, someone would have to be able to forge the signature to match the signature on file with voter registration. That's not easy to do
I’m genuinely curious to how this works? Is this a strict handwriting critique? I have no idea how my name is signed on my voter registration. Does it have to be exact per se?

Just saw your post. That could be very easily manipulated, imo. Votes for candidate “x” don’t pass the further investigation, while votes for candidate “y” do.

It only has to be approved by a Democrat on the county election commission.

I'm curious if the machine kicks it out who is the final arbiter?

I would guess someone assigned by the election committee, which in Oregon would be controlled by the Democratic Party. That doesn’t seem too fair.

Just for giggles search California voter laws. Lol what a joke. Republicans won every presidential election in that state from the 1950s-1988 except for Barry Goldwater. Prop 187 passed by 1.5 million votes in 1994 this was passed to limit state funding for illegal immigrants. Surprise surprise it was found unconstitutional by a federal court 3 days later. In 1999 Rolling Blackout Gray Davis prevented this from being appealed. And this is what led to the Blue Tidal wave of California.

After mail in voting the next call will be to vote by iPhone because it’s just too hard to walk to and from the mailbox, buy a stamp, and fill out all that info by hand.

The ballot is filled out and placed in one envelope, then the envelope with the ballot inside is placed inside of a second envelope and sealed. The second envelope is signed and mailed. Once received a computer scans the signature envelope and if the computer confirms the match, the ballot still inside the signed envelope goes on to the county election board. So no one can see the ballot until it's opened at the county election facility. So no one sees the ballot ahead of time. It works quite well.

I put full details in an earlier post.

I believe Vote by mail in Oregon was introduced in the early 80's and it's no coincidence that a republican presidential nominee has not won that State since 1984. Not being from Oregon I would ask when was the last time a republican won a statewide election in that state.

2002 was the last win by a Republican in a statewide election.

Since 1984 Oregon Republican Senators have served 33 years in the US Senate while Democratic Senators have served 32 years.

No I did. I’m asking you why you need checks and balances on one right but not the other. Why qualify one right but not the other.

Also since these are both individual rights the burden is on the citizen to initiate both transactions and insure themselves their voting ballot is properly transmitted to voting officials right? So no mass mailings and no ballot harvesting right?

I don't think that's what I said, I think checks and balances should be on both. I do believe that when it comes to weapons that training and background checks should be involved simply because of the lethal nature of a weapon.

Why is it that people want to turn a thread about voting into a thread about guns?

When checking the references used in the report you linked, the 2016 report from the US Election Assistance Commission States that 99% of all mail in ballots (not the same as "vote by mail") were counted in 2016. One percent were not counted due to the ballots being damaged. Mail in ballots include absentee ballots etc.

Also, the only states using "vote by mail" in 2016 were Oregon, Washington and Colorado. The link you provided says 6.5 million mail in ballots were misdirected or unaccounted for. Those three states had a total of about 8.9 million voters in 2016. Of those 7.2 million ballots were counted.

Assuming 100% voter turnout in those three states, 8.9 million minus 7.2 million equals 1.7 million. What I'm saying is the numbers used in your link just don't add up if we are talking about "vote by mail" elections.

And the evidence is ....

The evidence is many military mail in ballots get conveniently lost. So you want mail in ballot in a time where our post office is not efficient due to the virus and then have them counted manually which would be delayed because of the virus. You must be a big marxist party supporter to want mail in ballots.

There's a 24 page thread on it in VN. It probably only has 1/1,000th of what happened across the states during the election and you just said there's no fraud going on, without a link.

With voter ID there's zero percent chance voter fraud could happen by a citizen casting more than one vote.

By the way, your side is pushing vaccine identification but are saying no to voter identification?

Hypocrites.
They on want identification if it helps them politically. They know having illegals vote helps them

Our founding fathers would not want to cause anyone an issue by asking you to stand in a line. Not having to show someone a live person your identification to vote has and will always have the potential for fraud
Our founding fathers wouldnt want us to many of the problems we have today. It a defacto communist party decades to undue their vision.

Same happened to Virginia. That is the new people republic state because offsprings of illegals are voting dem for welfare.

Did you actually read this article? LOL One was a 76 year old man who accidentally voted in two states. Another was a college student who voted in two states. These aren't failures of the system they are examples of the system getting it right.
Don't look at me. You stated with certainty "there are no instances of voter fraud" in the state of Oregon. I simply did a google search and found several articles.

So I think that is what you said. You clearly put limits on the gun delivery method while ignoring them on the voting method. I see minimal if any checks on voting. I also proposed similar limits on the voting method and you’ve ignored them twice now.

And we aren’t turning this into a gun debate. We’re using the usual gun hypocrisy in demonstrating the usual voting hypocrisy that always comes up. Both are individual rights. If you can limit gun rights then you can limit voting rights.

You know, I was apparently wrong a few cases of voter fraud have taken place in Oregon. I wasn't aware of them. So my statement was to strong. It should have been virtually no voter fraud in Oregon over 30 plus years.

So the method you’ve outlined in OR points out that apparently ballots are mailed out automatically to all eligible voters. Is that ALL voters or is there some other qualifier? And why are important things like ballots just mailed without making the voter request them?

I certainly didn't ignore appropriate voter registration requirements. What do you think I missed?

And on your topic, are you saying people shouldn't have to have a background check or appropriate training as to how to safely use a gun?

I live in a reasonably nice neighborhood (home prices range from $575,000 to about $1,400,000), we have CCRs to protect our neighborhood and our investment. Last summer while I was on a golfing trip, my wife reported a neighbor for violations of the CCRs related to parking violations. The city came out and warned him and told him to fix the problem or he'd receive a ticket. His place looked more like a used car lot than a residence. The next day the city came by and checked on the problem. They gave him a $25 ticket. He went ballistic threatened the enforcement officer and then came after my wife. Scared the hell out of her,, broke my doorbell (brand new by the way I put it in 2 weeks before my trip). She ran in the house, locked the doors, and got her pepper spray. The officer called my wife and told her he wouldn't go back to that residence without being armed. And he told my wife to call the police if he came on our property.

Net result I started looking for a gun for my wife. I found the M&P 380 Shield EZ priced at $400 including training and 4 yr permit is $65. So it's quite inexpensive to own a gun. Amo seems to be the spendy part.

My granddaughter has a CCP, my nephew sells automatic weapons so I'm not immune to the realities of gun ownership.
