I don't view teaching abstinence as a waste across the board, but with many, it is an absolute waste.

I'm with you on the second point, but we have ample proof that parental responsibility is on the wane in our entitlement nation.

Teaching chemistry is a waste to some, but I think all get a course in it.

It is on the wane, but that does not set up a situation where I agree with someone teaching my kids about sex. If I catch a man teaching my daughter how to put a condom on a bananna, I would likely beat him.

And I am not some prude, I hope my kids have awesome sex lives when they get older. It is a teriffic part of life.

I'm pushing them to be wards of the welfare state and highly prolific and diverse in their breeding patterns. Maybe we can arrange a tryst when they're older.

Apparently putting a condom on requires one, according to some people in this thread. :)

Kids KNOW that having sex without a condom can get a girl pregnant. They KNOW that driving without a seatbelt can get you killed. The KNOW that doing drugs can get you put in jairl. BUT they still do those things. Why? Because they are stupid kids.

If a girl asks a guy to put a condom on, he's gonna say, " but baby, it feels so much better without one:cray:." And shes gonna say, "Oh ok, honeymuffins. You don't have to wear one." There's no about of education that will change either of their minds, because neither one of them is using their brains at that moment.

What we need to teach in this country is individual responsibility. We all have a right to choose what we do, but there's no sense in blaming the school or the parent or anyone else for the mistakes we make. Eventually, we are.... well, should be the ones to pay for the mistakes we make.

The whole time these classless comments were being

made the Barackstar was laughing enthusiasticaly. Of course the next day his office apologized for the 9/11 comments.

Then the attack on the Palins, I mean seriously, she is trying to do a good thing and help prevent teen pregnency, yet again is attacked because she is conservative. They are not on board with the Obama plan, therefore they are automaticaly demonized.


I normally think Wanda Sykes is funny, but some of this was over the top. It seems we have more of a movie star then a president. What does this show the rest of the world? That we are constantly degrading each other in forums such as that, taking cheap shots and what not?

well if i got up and made a joke in public about obama bein on his knees on his European Tour more then Jenna Jameson in her first year, i would get blasted and probably get death threats

The problem I have with the whole thing is the mere fact that she can say those things and have no repercussions from it. And yes, it is because of her race. The question is not did Sarah Palin do a good job of teaching, it is did Bristol do a good job of learning. We are all responsible for our own decisions. If someone has the information and chooses to ignore it, then it is not the fault of the teacher.

As for teaching abstinence, it is the same as any other subject. You teach it and either they understand or they don't. Teens have more hormones than a herd of rabbits and they have no idea how to control them. They are not mature enough. I have three kids. Two daughters, one of which got pregnant at 17. Did she know the consequences? Yes. Did she get talked into it anyway? DUH. She made a decision. She knew exactly what could happen. She chose to believe her idiot boyfriend when he told her he was sterile. OOPS. I have a beautiful grandson as a result and she has a very difficult road ahead of her for a while. Life's hard. You have to deal with the choices you make. There are consequences, sometimes unintended, for every decision. Parents can only do so much. And should only do so much. Kids have to make their own decisions and have to take their own lumps. If we do it for them they will never learn. And the hardest lessons are the ones that stick. I seriously doubt my daughter will be getting pregnant again anytime soon.

I'd say the proof of the efficacy of her "traditional family values" babble is obvious. I'm a big fan of someone being able to handle their own house before they start pontificating at others. Palin needs to go ahead and start a career in the only profession she's really suited for: GMILF porn.

I was not arguing the efficacy, just the hypocrisy. A person can be lousy in certain parenting aspects, does not necessarily indicate hypocrisy. Can just be a poor teacher or poor student or some combination of the two.

I am for having your house in order too.

She would sell a ton.

I think there are plenty of credible reports about her behavior that indicate she doesn't buy into the puritanical nonsense the GOP has her hawking. That's opportunistic hypocrisy at its best.

You could be right. I don't follow her that closely. I would think most moms don't want their teenage daughters having sex though. My gut would be she actually does buy into that one. But I admit there are mothers that are cool with it, so you could be right.
