War in Ukraine

A myth? So pathetic.

It wasnt a myth, and it wasnt the only time early in the war Ukraine was offered a peace deal. Ukraine rejected multiple offers of peace.

So your neighbor comes over and announces he's going to take half your house, and if you struggle, it won't be peaceful. However, he says that if you'll just agree to give him the 1/3rd he really wants, he'll leave you alone ... until he wants more. Is that a peace deal? Most of us would agree it isn't, but most of us can recognize aggression and theft when we see it.

That was the peace deal we gave Mexico. That was the deal Turkiye gave Cypress. That was the deal the Israelis gave the Syrians and Palestinians.

America's CWIS ship defense system uses depleted uranium for their bullets.
Every modern long rod penetrator sabot tank round manufactured by any country utilizes depleted uranium, tungsten, or some alloy of one or both materials. This idiotic screeching by Russia over depleted uranium as some kind of nuclear attack is moronic.

Russia knows this, i'd say they have the same materials in their weapons too.

They do. That was my point. Thus Russia screeching over the UK sending depleted uranium sabot tank rounds to use in the tanks they provided is moronic and baseless.

Also I believe Phalanx fires tungsten rounds not depleted uranium.

at one point they used depleted uranium, that what they used when i was in the navy. i worked on the sea spearrow system and my buddies worked on phalanx. i got to shoot it some in training. one ship accidentally fired a round when they were in port and the base had to send out radio and tv public announcements around the area to warn people if they found the shell not to touch it. i'm not sure how it was fired, i believe it was while they were doing maintenance

Ok fair enough. After I posted that I googled it Naval Phalanx fires tungsten and land based fire incendiary self destructing rounds. I’d guess the sheer amount of material required for the rounds forced finding a larger resource. Tungsten and depleted uranium are similar in density and both are tough metals.

you could be right, i had always been told it was depleted uranium but I never really inquired about it. this was in the 90's

I wasn’t trying to call you a liar and I’m no expert on the history of the round. Tungsten and depleted uranium are both very common in penetrator round design. I was just going from memory I thought phalanx used tungsten but no idea what it had used since entering service in the early 80’s

i know you're not, as i said i've assumed it was uranium but i could wrong.

Tennessee volunteers defeated Mexico, then after Mexico attacked in 1846 the US defeated them. Could have taken the whole country but didn't.
Syria joined in the attack on Israel and lost. Lucky they didn't take the whole of Syria. So those 2 examples you used to compare Russia/Ukraine are asinine. I'm not up on my Cyprus history so can't debate that one.

Turkey kicked Cypress’s ass and could have over run the place had Europe not put a leash on them after Greece cried to their buddies.

ETA: one good outcome was the implosion of the Greek Junta over their meddling and subsequent war in Cypress and the return to prior democratically elected government in Greece

You see what Russia is doing here right? Setting up the pretext for escalation. Russia has been firing these rounds since day one of the war. These are common rounds used in tanks and anti tank weapons.

Russia is attempting to set the table for escalation, and you've pulled up a table at the buffet.

oh course he has. he has one standard, its a double one.

So why force them to go forward with this counteroffensive if you know it will be a debacle? Why throw way lives in some Hail Mary hope strategy?

Biden’s team fears the aftermath of a failed Ukrainian counteroffensive

Ukraine has hoped to sever Russia’s land bridge to Crimea and U.S. officials are now skeptical that will happen, according to two administration officials familiar with the assessment. But there are still hopes in the Pentagon that Ukraine will hamper Russia’s supply lines there, even if a total victory over Russia’s newly fortified troops ends up too difficult to achieve.
