War in Ukraine

This is my shocked face.

Institute for the Study of War

Segments of the Russian pro-war ultranationalist information space appear to be coalescing around the Kremlin’s narrative effort to portray the Ukrainian counteroffensive as a failure, increasingly overstating Ukrainian losses and writing less about Russia's losses and challenges than they had been. Prominent Russian milbloggers have been increasingly presenting Ukrainian counteroffensive operations inaccurately as a series of failed Ukrainian assaults along the entire line of contact.[1] Russian milbloggers widely amplified footage on July 29 claiming that it showed a single Russian tank defeating an entire Ukrainian company with armored vehicles as if the event had occurred recently, but the footage is actually from June 7 and shows Russian artillery units striking the Ukrainian column.[2] Russian sources have previously recirculated old footage to support claims that Ukrainian forces are suffering significant armored vehicle losses, and the amplification of the footage on July 29 indicates that Russian sources are deliberately amplifying old footage to support the Kremlin narrative.[3] Russian President Vladimir Putin recently claimed that Ukrainian forces lost 39 armored vehicles in a few days of fighting in western Zaporizhia Oblast, a notable inflection in his exaggeration of Ukrainian losses during the Ukrainian counteroffensive.[4] ISW previously assessed that the Kremlin is likely shifting its policy about the coverage of the war to downplay the possibilities of a successful Ukrainian counteroffensive and to promote itself as an effective manager of the war effort.[5] Russian milbloggers continue to report on localized Ukrainian advances and some issues with Russian defensive operations, but the pro-war Russian information space’s wider operational framing of the Ukrainian counteroffensive aligns with the likely shift in the Kremlin’s portrayal of the counteroffensive.[6]

Not just Poland that is massively rearming. Lithuania plans to establish a division sized unit in the near future and will become the first Baltic state to operate tanks after alerting Germany they intend to buy 54 Leopard 2s. What is interesting to me is that South Korea is getting in on the spending spree a lot of European countries are deciding to purchase South Korean made equipment.

When people don't like and don't trust Russia, they REALLY DON'T LIKE and they REALLY DISTUST RUSSIA! Funny how so many of the countries with this sentiment were intimately affiliated with Russia for so many years.

NATO told Ukraine not to strike inside Russia with weapons provided by NATO so they are manufacturing their own for that purpose.

That's really a huge rock and hard spot for Ukraine and NATO. Ukrainian attacks on Russia with NATO sourced weapons really puts NATO in a bad light. At the same time if Russia feels no pain, then Ukraine has nothing to bargain with except Ukrainian land should peace talks open up. It's obvious Russian isn't going to admit they screwed up and go home leaving Ukraine intact. This is really where Putin's threat of nuclear weapons comes into play ... probably a bluff, but who knows. Maybe NATO just needs to say a good offense is the best defense and take the gloves off Ukraine and let the Russians feel the bad news and decide keeping Putin around was a huge mistake.

That cuck Medvedev threatening nukes again. This time if/when AFU kicks their asses out then they would use nukes.

Medvedev threatens nuclear weapons in case of success of Ukraine's counteroffensive

Quote: "After all, if you imagine that the offensive of the Ukrainian Banderites (a Russian cliche based on the distorted image of Stepan Bandera, the leader of Ukrainian nationalists in the 20th century – ed.) with the support of NATO was successful, and they rejected part of our land, then we would have to resort to the use of nuclear weapons in accordance with the rules of the decree of the President of Russia, dated 2 June 2020. There is simply no other way out. Therefore, our enemies should pray for our warriors. They prevent a global nuclear conflagration."

French Embassy in Niger is Attacked as Pro-Russia protesters march through capital after pro western government was overthrown in military coup

The French embassy in Niger has been attacked as pro-Russian protesters marched through the capital after the pro-western government was overthrown in a military coup.

Thousands of supporters of the junta that seized control of Niger this week marched through Niamey, denounced the country's former colonial power and set a door at the French embassy alight before the army broke up the crowd.

The Russian private mercenary army Wagner is operating in neighbouring Mali and its warlord leader Yevgeny Prigozhin commended the coup and offered to deploy fighters.

President Vladimir Putin is hoping to expand his country's influence in the region. Crowds in Niamey waved Russian flags and chanted 'long live Putin' and 'down with France'. The new junta's leaders have not said whether they would move towards Moscow or stick with Niger's Western partners.

Anybody who throws in with Russia at this point is stupid.

So @Burhead... lets think this through for just one moment.

1. How many Wagner fighters are in Belarus right now? 5000? 9000? Is that really enough to do anything to threaten Poland and Lithuania to make a mad dash to Kaliningrad?
2. In the Donbas, Wagner had Russian provided armor, armillary and helicopters. They don't have that right now. At best, they are no more than a group of border guards or policemen or light infantry. Is this really something to lose sleep over?
3. Wouldn't an incursion by Wagner be an outright attack on NATO? Do you really think Putin wants that right now anymore than NATO does?

I know how excited and giddy you guys were in the June 23rd-24th drama and I tried to calm you guys down, but at the very least, can you not agree that some of this hand wringing by Poland and the Baltics is exaggerated?

Unless Wagner gets resupplied with the same equipment that they had in Donbas, the most they will do is counter an incursion by Polish/Baltic troops in Western Ukraine (or hopefully the less likely scenario of going to Belarus).
So.......whats the argument here?

Wagner is going to jump in for the Ukrainians and protect Western Ukraine from Poland? Is this the fabled land grab you have predicted since the start of the war? by the way that would necessitate Wagner invading Ukraine, as Poland and Ukraine share a direct border.

and you believe that Wagner could have some positive effect on a Polish invasion with just infantry, but couldn't launch a successful invasion of their own with just infantry? And this is despite that to stop this supposed invasion of Ukraine by Poland, Wagner would first have to invade Ukraine.....

and this ignores that this most recent Wagner deployment has them closer to Kaliningrad than Lviv, so they are in the wrong part of Belarus to stop some invasion of Ukraine by Poland.

this further ignores the sheer logistical insanity of your proposal. You argue that Wagner would be incapable of taking 42 miles of territory to get to Kalinigrad, despite the fact that the Russians would be able to attack from Kaliningrad, which I am willing to bet has tanks, airplanes, and all the other support Wagner might need. And at that range I am pretty sure the front lines from either front would be in striking distance of the other front with artillery. But in your mind Wagner would be able to take 171 mile (a very very very conservative estimate) border of Ukraine and Poland....

171 miles is reasonable, but 42 is not.

my God I love the pure irrationality of you trying to bend over backwards to make Russia and Wagner the good guys.

still waiting on Ras, or any of the "realists" to give us the history or where Bandera was from 1941 to 1944, and all the cooperation he provided during that time.....
